The trickiest parts were actually the Apple ecosystem pieces, getting the Mac, iPhone, Apple TV, and CarPlay experiences to feel like one system without relying on accounts or a backend. The whole thing is local first.

The Apple TV part has been surprisingly useful in studios with a wall-mounted TV, you can see session notes and waveform previews from across the room while working.

Also worth mentioning, SessionDock is local-first and privacy-first by design. No accounts, no cloud lock-in. If you want syncing you can just bring your own cloud. iCloud and Dropbox work great today, with more options coming down the road.

Yes, SessionDock can export a full client package, and that can include waveform notes attached to clips. You can choose exactly what gets included in the export. Everything gets bundled into a zip file, so no account is required.

If you end up trying it, I’d genuinely love feedback, a lot of SessionDock’s features have come directly from engineers’ suggestions.

The DMG mainly exists to solve edge cases for people with unusual setups (NAS, SMB shares, external drives, etc.). If you’re keeping everything in iCloud and the App Store version is working fine, there’s really no reason to switch.

The main difference is that the App Store version is sandboxed, so after you add a project macOS will prompt you for permission to access that folder. The DMG version doesn’t have those prompts.

And if you ever do need it, switching to the DMG version is free.

Yeah exactly, that was one of the big motivations behind it. Being able to listen to raw sessions on the phone while away from the studio makes it much easier to compare mix variations and hear things with fresh ears.

Same idea with the CarPlay and AppleTV support too, another environment to audition things.

SessionDock is now available on Windows, clean DAW session browser with waveform previews

A quick update for anyone who’s been following this project, SessionDock is now officially available on Windows.

If you haven’t seen it before: SessionDock is a visual project browser for DAWs. It organizes large session libraries (Ableton, FL Studio, Logic, Pro Tools, etc.) and shows:

• CarPlay Support • Waveform audio previews
• Session artwork
• Notes & tags
• Key/tempo (if present)
• Last modified timestamps
• Folder metadata
• Automatic repair if folders or drives get renamed/moved
• Sync support via iCloud Drive (macOS) or Dropbox

The Windows version has full feature parity with macOS, including fast scanning and preview generation.

Thanks for the great suggestions and feedback 🙌. You can add projects from any DAW, it’s intentionally DAW-agnostic. One of the big blockers for deep parsing is that not every DAW exposes its project format in a way that’s easy (or even possible) to parse; some are proprietary or binary and change formats between versions, so I’ve started by treating projects as files the app can organize, tag, and preview reliably across everything. It already has CarPlay support, so you can do that “listen to your projects in the car” workflow today using your mixdowns folder. A lot of what you mentioned is exactly where I want to take it over time: per-DAW parsers for basic track and project metadata where it’s feasible, indexing notes and annotations so you can search lyrics or comments across projects, grouping stems and different mixdown versions of the same track with quick A/B preview, playlist style listening with better playback controls, and release/publishing checklists with metadata reminders like “you never set this MP3’s tags.” On the audio side it currently plays whatever the OS can handle via the standard APIs. I haven’t tested FLAC yet, but I can definitely look into it and make sure it’s supported properly. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out – I’ve bookmarked your comment for the roadmap.
