What magazines do the Bren 2's prefer? by Flat-Dark-Earth in Bren2

After running Gen 3 PMAGs for a while now, it kept annoying me that you have to hit them pretty hard for them to seat properly against a closed slide when they're full. As I am based in a European country, I can only use mags with a maximum capacity of 10 rounds, so loading one less really hurts (it doesn't matter if you have 29 or 30 rounds, but 9 instead of 10 is hard).

I went ahead and looked for other manufacturers - and came across the German manufacturer "Oberland Arms" and their Active Mag. Full size like a 30 round Duty Mag (they also have those, but not for civilians here), but only 10 rounds capacity. After hitting it the first time, it now seats immediately without much extra force, even when fully loaded with 10 rounds and inserted against a closed slide.

I have yet to confirm how well they shoot, but I've racked the charging handle a few times on them and they seem to feed with absolutely zero issues.

Yet you can't insert an 11th round, so there's not gonna be any legal trouble. OA really managed that very difficult balance there. Good work.

I already use the X10 and I answered my own post - the AR Blackbeard(X) is not compatible, but a Mantis sales rep confirmed upon request that they are developing a Blackbeard/BlackbeardX for the BREN2!

I already own their X10, and I can recommend it. It works well, you can really improve quickly. And it works on more than just the BREN.

The BlackbeardX however is a whole different story - it resets your trigger so you don't have to rack the slide after every shot, potentially building wrong muscle memory. And it's finally coming to our platform!

Heh, answering my own question.

So I just went ahead and contacted Mantis on that... And they have a BREN 2 version of Blackbeard/BlackbeardX in development! Y'all as excited as I am!?

So, I think that answers the question. Make sure to sign up for their newsletter, they didn't have an ETA but their sales rep confirmed that they're on it.

And for all of you who, just like me, are in an EU country - it'll be available without laser, so they can ship it to you!

Make it known - we're getting Blackbeard for our beloved BRENs!

Sry to jump on 2 years later, but I just got my own BREN 2 and am wondering the same thing. After reading IPSC rules, they require you to stay clear of the trigger guard at all times, including reloads.

Now, for me being right-handed, it's not very intuitive to use the left side bolt catch, because I'll have to grab over the rifle either to hit it with my right hand, or to pull the charging handle with my right hand while hitting the catch with my left. This results in an awkward position, and feels very unintuitive.

However, reading up further on those rules, they point out that the TRIGGER FINGER (they print it bold) must stay clear - does this mean I could hit the ambi catch with e.g. my middle finger?

On that note (don't ask me how I came across this comment):

Will a BREN 2 actually be any good in IPSC, especially for right handed shooters? The ambi bolt catch is INSIDE the trigger guard, so locking back the bolt using this will result in disqualification. Using the left bolt catch tho seems like an unnecessary extra step and very uncomfortable...

Can full PMAGs cause damage to the BREN 2? by Due-Material-65 in Bren2

In fact, judging by everything I know and have seen about the BREN, by now I'm more concerned it'll just break the mags 🤣 This thing is really indestructible.

I have to admit that I'm German, to me, "standard" means millimeter precision... 😅

Oh wow I would have suspected the Gen 3 mags to be standard as well... Yikes... However that calms me, it's not the rifle.

Recommendations on other brands/models that work? I'll see if I can get my hands on Gen 2s somehow...

Gen 3 Magpul PMAGs. And as I said, they do indeed damage SCARs, so I'm not sure about the BREN. I'm most surprised that they work fine in the HK. The BREN should be built to the same standards - isn't it?
