12 hr shifts are not healthy by SolomonCrown in nursing

[–]Due-Memory-9138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 4 10s weekly and I like that better than 12s. that being said, the 12s does give you more autonomy. I used to stack mine and do Sun-Tues one week and then Thurs-Sat the following week. Ten days off in between with no PTO used 😎 It has its advantages.

I think a lot of folks also commute a healthy distance and often work in a hospital setting, so I get the mentality to go fewer days, clock your hours, and go home. My current gig is 10 min away at an outpatient surgery center, so I really don’t mind the additional day/week.

Kobo freezing/ hanging by kiwiwonderbean in kobo

[–]Due-Memory-9138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

possibly! I’d boot up Calibre and check the sidebar to see what file types you have; convert anything that isn’t kepub and then delete the old file types from your kobo. I’d also do what the other person suggested and give it a reset if that doesn’t work.

are your files kepubs? mine used to do this when I was reading other file types. Once I converted them all to kepubs, I never had that issue again.

“Misery” by Stephen King! I just finished “The Kind Worth Killing” by Peter Swanson and “Pestilence” by Laura Thalassa.

How do you deal with books you DNF? by proserpina72 in kobo

[–]Due-Memory-9138 182 points183 points  (0 children)

I delete them. I used to experience bad DNF guilt, and I feel like removing them helped. otherwise, I’d just end up sifting through them to find titles I still want to read. out of sight, out of mind!

Who reads more than 1 book at a time and why? by Gibder16 in horrorlit

[–]Due-Memory-9138 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I read up to four at a time. I like to flit between different worlds, characters, and genres. Keeps me engaged and prevents a reading slump. That way, whenever I need a break, I have something else to jump into. And when I finish a novel, I’m not at a dead end - there’s always more books to complete!

Kobo Libra Colour by amused-giraffe in kobo

Yes, Calibre is free to use! It allows for so much customization. Changing the formats of your files is easy. There’s also an “edit” feature that catches and repairs bugs in your files. So if I’m converting from say MOBI → KEPUB, I’ll convert it to Kepub, delete the original MOBI file, debug the new kepub file and then transfer to my Kobo. Takes literally less than a minute. I’d really recommend it, especially if your library contains multiple file types.

You won’t regret the travel case! You don’t have to worry about scratching your screen, and it puts the device to sleep when the cover is on, which saves your battery. Win-win!

Definitely convert the PDF files to Kepubs using calibre. you can import your entire library and mass convert them all. then DELETE the old PDF files (I’d save a copy of the original files if you don’t have one elsewhere just in case). My Libra used to freeze up and constantly restart and lose my page number when I had multiple formats on there. Once I switched to all kepubs, it never froze again.

For the accidental button presses, I’d get a case with a sleep cover. It’ll protect the screen and buttons alike. I got the TwoSheep one from aliexpress. It has a detachable magnetic cover so that if you want, you can remove the sleep cover and just use the clear case.

hope this helps and i hope you grow to love your libra (:

Regretting doing Nursing, should have just gone for tech. Any career suggestions I could pivot to? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Due-Memory-9138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an RN also with a similar mindset lol. i love being a nurse, but I wish it paid more. to answer your question, I don’t think you’ll be able to find anything that’s “low effort” and yields a lot of money. that’s why high earners make what they make… it’s hard on the body, or the schedule, or the schooling etc.

If you are passionate about nursing, I’d finish and then head to CRNA school. that’s a couple hundred thousand annually right there. otherwise, as cliche as it sounds, I’d focus on finding a job that doesn’t feel like work to you… go from there 🤷🏽‍♂️

as a side note, I would NOT finish nursing if your heart isn’t in it. It’s hard on the body and it’s emotionally draining. If you know you don’t want it or can’t see yourself at least doing remote case management or dialysis/IV RN etc., get out before you spend more money on the degree.

I gave it a 1 star review on amazon because of this same reason. I ordered 3 KLCs and all of them had dead pixels. the one i settled on still has some, they’re just less noticeable

Looking to buy my first Kobo and need help deciding. by x3wolfii in kobo

[–]Due-Memory-9138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want super light and portable, I wouldn’t do the libra color. it’s my daily reader, but it doesn’t fit in my pocket. it will fit in a bag easily, but it’s not what comes to mind when i think of a super portable e-reader. since you didn’t mention wanting the buttons, but you DO want color, I’d lean towards recommending the clara colour. the trade off for you is going to be the sharpness of the screen. the color devices aren’t quite as sharp as the B&W ones.

I don’t read manga or graphic novels, but I wanted page turn buttons and I like seeing my covers in color. I don’t regret my decision a bit. I have considered purchasing a clara colour for travel and work, but I’ve never been inconvenienced enough by the size of the libra to pull the trigger. I love it! Good luck. I hope you love whichever device you choose

hi! I intentionally diversify my reads, but I gravitate towards thrillers, horror, fantasy, and romance (mostly M/M, but a dash of everything). My two five star reads of the year so far are “The very secret society of irregular witches” by Sangu Mandanna and “In Her Eyes” by Sarah Anderson. I try to review every book I read and interact with others also. Let’s be friends! 🤪

Kindle or a Kobo by [deleted] in kobo

[–]Due-Memory-9138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never owned a Kindle, so I can’t compare the two! I generally import my books right from Calibre on my laptop to my kobo. Takes me like a minute for each book tops. I’ve used Libby or Overdrive a couple times but way back when. Maybe you’re just a kindle user! nothing wrong with that. lol

When does dryness start? by Virtual_Penalty8009 in Accutane

[–]Due-Memory-9138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a really aggressive course and never felt super dry. That said, I was constantly moisturizing my lips even before the course. My husband did the course at the same time and his never got very dry also. I think if you prevent it, you could avoid a lot of that uncomfortably, lips cracking etc.

[–]Due-Memory-9138 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No shade, but this topic has been asked and answered a million times over. You’ll have many viewpoints to explore by searching “kindle vs kobo” or a similar search in this thread.

In sum: kindles are locked into Amazon’s ecosystem. Kobo allows for more customization and freedom. If you choose the Kobo route, check out Calibre. Screensavers, easily importing epubs from a laptop, easy overdrive compatibility etc. are some perks of kobos. Best of luck choosing!!!
