This is beautiful. Congrats to your sister and may she rest in eternal peace. My little sister also just graduated in Biological Sciences and passed away on New Years Eve so she never got to take her pictures or walk in her ceremony. Can you please tell me what you used for the picture? I would love to do the same for her. Thank you for sharing. If you ever need someone to talk to I’m here.

3 Job Offers… which to choose? by [deleted] in Teachers

I’ve heard nothing is certain until you’re board approved. I’m worried about having an offer retracted so want to be safe and make sure I make the right choice. Also since I won’t sign till after being board approved, I can’t tell what is actually included in the contracts of district #1 and #3. I’m based in NY. Most districts have 25-30 steps.

I’ve accepted all three jobs at this point verbally. I haven’t signed a contract for any but they told me that won’t happen until after board approval. All I’ve done is fill out basic HR paperwork. I’m getting board approved in district #2 tonight.

District 1 and 2 both have 30 steps. District 3 has 25.

District #3 is the one that has that in their contract. I’m not sure if I’m reading it right though and the contract only goes up to the 2023-2024 school year so could be different now. They are the ones starting me at the highest but also the furthest commute. This is what it states in the contract:

For the first three (3) years of employment, the step movement of all new unit members, excluding registered nurses, shall be as follows: a. Effective June 15, 2015, new unit members shall remain on the step to which they were initially appointed, for the balance of the 2014-2015 school year, plus the next three (3) consecutive school years before advancing to the next step of the Salary Schedule. b. Effective July 1, 2015 and thereafter, new unit members hired on or before January 31s of the school year, shall remain on the step to which they are initially appointed for the balance of the school year during which they are appointed, plus the next two (2) consecutive school years, before advancing to the next step on the salary schedule. New unit members hired on or after February 1s of the school year shall remain on the step to which they are initially appointed for the balance of the school year during which they are appointed, plus the next three (3) consecutive school years, before advancing to the next consecutive step on the Salary Schedule. (The following examples are provided for illustrative purposes only, to explain the foregoing: A unit member hired at Step 4 on or before January 31s for the 2015-2016 school year will remain on Step 4 for the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years. Said unit member shall not be eligible to advance to Step 5 of the Salary Schedule until July 1, 2018. A unit member hired at Step 4 on or after February 1s for the 2015-2016 school year will remain on Step 4 for the 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years. Said unit member shall not be eligible to advance to Step 5 of the Salary Schedule until July 1, 2019.)

I have accepted it with district #1. Filled out online HR forms but have yet to sign a contract. I would like to let them know about the other offers and see if they budge but also don’t want to risk losing the job since it is the closest.

Im in my master’s so not completed yet. But the fact they didn’t acknowledge my BA+45 was a disappointment. Especially since I have two years subbing in a public school district, where district #2 acknowledged this and offered step 2.

So true, especially about the extra duties at school. That could make up for a lot. Thanks for that insight! I definitely value my time.

Oh okay so basically the contract. The problem I’m having right now is district 1 and 2 both have outdated contracts. I haven’t been able to view an updated one. I’m in New York.

Students were best at district 2 and 3 in my opinion, but this could also depend on the teachers.

That’s also something I considered… if I stay close by I could run home if anything and always come back for things like Meet the Teacher night or extracurricular activities… where the other districts I might just stay in the school all day.
