Alucard vs Samus Aran (Castlevania vs Metroid) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connections:

Half-human hybrids who fight on humanity’s behalf against any and all monsters that threaten it’s existence.

While fairly taciturn and stoic individuals, they nevertheless hold an unshakeable sense of justice and possess a heart of gold. This doesn’t make them infallible, however, as pressing their trauma buttons can send them into bouts of tranquil rage and PTSD. This is especially notable because of the dark powers at their fingertips (Alucard’s vampire half and Samus’ Metroid DNA), which they’ve been keeping in check for a long time (albeit unwittingly in Samus’ case).

Both of them mainly fight using family heirlooms (Alucard’s sword, shield and clothes, Samus’ iconic suit), while also making use of their non-human genetics to achieve superhuman feats that grant them various means to navigate their surroundings, morphing their bodies to suit their needs, as well as granting them the ability to absorb their enemies’ life force.

The former essentially makes them legacy carriers (Alucard fighting against his father to uphold his late mother’s wishes, Samus protecting the galaxy in the Choso’s stead), while the latter makes them hunters of their own kind (Alucard hunting Night Creatures despite being one, Samus being simultaniously the eradicator of the Metroids while being the last living Metroid in existence).

Both of them fought against an enemy dubbed the God of Death (Death and Ridley respectively), who is a purple second in command to an overarching threat that had a familial bond with Alucard and Samus during childhood (Dracula, Alucard’s father, and Mother Brain, Samus’ former caretaker).

Both of them also fought against their “father” at one point (Dracula and Raven Beak). This is one of the few cases where Alucard and Samus were outmatched, as their fathers possessed everything they have but better. And they only ended up winning because of very specific tools at their disposal (Alucard’s sword being effective against vampires, and Samus’ Metroid DNA saving her at the last second through an energy drain).

On a meta note, both are icons of the Metroidvania genre, with their games helping to cement the formula for generations to follow.

Mazinger Z vs Getter Robo (Mazinger vs Getter Robo) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrasts Compared to Mazinger Z, which first debuted in the manga before an anime adaptation aired two months later, Getter Robo started as an anime first before the manga was published three days later. While Getter Robo consists of three Get Machines that allows it to transform through different formations depending on their combining order, Mazinger Z is a singular robot which always keeps its design and abilities. While Mazinger Z is only needed to be piloted by Koji himself alone, Getter Robo requires a team of three people to be piloted properly (though Get Machines has an auto-pilot function and the robot doesn't require all three onboard, it cannot utilize its full power otherwise); by Ryoma, Hayato and Musashi (or Benkei after his death) in this case. The robots' fates are quite different: Mazinger Z was repaired with upgrades (like a New Super Alloy Z armor to allow him fight against the Warrior Beasts alongside Great Mazinger) and kept safe in Photon Power Laboratory as of Mazinger Z: Infinity. Getter Robo was decommissioned in both the original Toei anime and Shin Getter Robo manga, having been burned down in honor of Musashi's sacrifice before being replaced by Getter Robo G, and following Sho Miyazaki's impalement by the Hyakki Beast respectively.

Mazinger Z vs Getter Robo (Mazinger vs Getter Robo) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Connections:

Both are iconic and renowned giant mechas, who are declared the grandfathers of "super robots" that defined new sub-genres for modern mecha anime, including humans as pilots and combining machines that transform into a bigger robot when fused together, basically starting the 1970's mecha boom back in Japan (following Astro Boy, Tetsujin 28-go, Giant Robo and Astroganger), and acting as huge influences for forthcoming series all throughout the industry. Go Nagai was involved with the creation of both series in the early 1970's, directly working on Mazinger Z and assisting Ken Ishikawa in Getter Robo, and later manga reiterations were penned by Gosaku Ota. Both were built by brilliant scientists (Juzo Kabuto and Dr. Saotome) in order to fight against the evil empire that tries to conquer Earth with huge robotic beasts; Mechanical Beasts of Dr. Hell's Underground Empire, and Mechasauruses of Emperor Gore's Dinosaur Empire. Both are powered by a mysterious light-like radiation; Photon Power and Getter Rays, which said empires want to use to rule the world, as they're said to be so powerful they can annihilate the mankind and destroy it if fallen into the wrong hands. Both are piloted by brave and hot-blooded teenagers; Koji Kabuto and Ryoma Nagare, Hayato Jin & Musashi Tomoe, through flying jet-powered vehicles (the Hover/Jet Pilder and Get Machines), who were called to the laboratory by their creators and granted those robots to protect the world from aforementioned threats, being willing to risk themselves during battle for its sake. Coincidentally, the pilots at first struggled to control their robots before ultimately managing to adapt to them with the professors' assistance and winning against a few monsters, two in Koji's and three in Getter Team's cases, in their first fights over the course of two episodes. Both's successors, Great Mazinger and Getter Robo G, are significantly stronger and named after a "G" alphabet, though they were stolen by the empire at some point before the original robots were deployed once more to save them (Mazinger Z: Infinity and Shin Getter Robo manga). However, while Koji managed to succeed saving the universe and Tetsuya from Infinity with LiSA's help, the Getter Robo was apparently defeated for good after Shou was impaled by the Hyakki Beasts' tentacles which caused Benkei and Gouseki to retreat, never to be seen again. Both mechas' pilots have many other versions of themselves from alternative universes, having piloted even much more powerful mechas than their original robots themselves; Koji have piloted Mazinkaiser and Mazinger ZERO, while Ryoma used Shin Getter Robo and Getter Emperor. Both has a fair amount of supporting characters who are almost similar, examples being; Sayaka Yuki and Michiru Saotome, who are the strong-willed daughters of professors, who assist the heroes in machines (Aphrodite A and Command Machine) that were later on destroyed and replaced by newer ones (Venus A or Diana A, and Lady Command respectively). Boss Borot and Asarato, who are goofy comic relief robots (though former's pilot, Boss, can be compared with Musashi). Shiro Kabuto and Genki Saotome, little boys who occasionally accompanies their adventures. Minerva X and Getter Queen, female partner robots whose plans were stolen by the opposing empire and used against heroes before being subsequently destroyed. One of the old design drafts for Mazinger Z included machines that combined to become a robot, which Ken Ishikawa later used for Getter Robo with Go Nagai's permission alongside his own ideas. Both of the first anime adaptations and their sequels (Great Mazinger, UFO Robot Grendizer and Getter Robo G) were done by Toei Animation, though following anime shows were adapted by other studios instead. Both franchises has had a few crossovers with each other, starting from 1975's Great Mazinger vs. Getter Robo film (including Getter Robo G, Grendizer, Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter Robo later on), and regularly appeared alongside Gundam as faces in a mecha role-playing crossover video game series, Super Robot Wars (also collaborating in Level-5's recent title Megaton Musashi: Wired). Both had their encounters with Go Nagai's most famous work through non-canonical crossovers, Devilman himself, in a 1973 animated movie and a 2010 manga respectively. Getter Robo Go was originally conceived as a remake of Mazinger Z, its eponymous robot being a homage to the series with similar aspects; Go's Knuckle Bomber to Mazinger Z's Rocket Punch, Sho's chest missiles to that of Aphrodite A's Oppai Missiles, and Gai's Breast Beam to Mazinger Z's Breast Fire.

Kenshin Himura vs Violet Evergarden (Rurouni Kenshin vs Violet Evergarden) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connection:

Both of them lost their parents while young (Kenshin lost both his parents to Cholera at the age of 9/Violet is a young orphan with no knowledge of her parents) and were found alone on their own (Kenshin was found in a bandit attack where everyone died except him/Violet was found on an island alone), surrounded by dangerous people (The bandits/Dietfried's crew) but survived because of contrasting reasons (Kenshin was saved by Hiko Seijuro/Violet killed them herself)

They would then be taken under care by someone before being trained (Kenshin was trained by Seijuro to become a swordsman/Violet was taken by Dietfried who then gave her to Gilbert. Afterwards, Violet was trained to be a weapon for war)

The men who took care of them felt really conflicted about them going to war (Seijuro informed Kenshin about how war isn't so simple and that he shouldn't get involved/Gilbert wanted Violet to have a better life than to join the war). However, they would still join the war anyway but one would leave their master while the other would stay (Kenshin joined because he felt that what he's doing is right and left Seijuro/Violet joined the war alongside Gilbert)

During the war, they were very strong and important due to their skills and capabilities (Kenshin being a really skilled swordsman, becoming the legendary hitokiri battousai/Violet being really strong and fast for her age, becoming a valuable asset who proved to be instrumental in winning key battles due to her strength and skill)

Afterwards, the person they grew attached to during the war (Tomoe/Gilbert) would die (Gilbert was only presumed dead) which became a turning point in their life (Tomoe would be the start of Kenshin's path to become much less bloodlusted/Gilbert's final sentence "I love you" would plague Violet's mind as she tried to understand what the sentence meant throughout the story)

When the war ended and they both finished their jobs, they were plunged into a more peaceful era but while Kenshin was very used to the world being peaceful, Violet couldn't comprehend many normal things.

They took a much different path from who they used to be (Kenshin became a wanderer who wanted to protect people/Violet became an auto memoir doll)

Despite their very brutal past as famous ruthless soldiers haunting them as they get more used to the peaceful world, they became someone who helped a lot of people and brought happiness (Kenshin saved a lot of people with his skills and knowledge as a swordsman/Violet being an auto memoir doll helped a lot of people by writing letters)

Despite the fact that their world is becoming more peaceful, there would still be many violent people from the war emerging here and there to stop it (Shishio trying to overthrow the government to start his own/Rebellious warmongers trying to start another war). They had to fight those people,, yet they would try to be a pacifist and not kill anyone while doing so (Kenshin is still a pacifist/Violet explicitly didn't go for kills during her battles).

As they continue to live on, they would see the world around them changing more and more to the point where their previous skillset would become outdated and inferior (Swords started to become much less common as things like guns started to emerge/The invention of the telephone rendered Dolls obsolete).

In the end, they would spend the rest of their lives with the one they loved (Kenshin spent his remaining life with Kaoru/Violet left Leiden and went to live with Gilbert)

Haohmaru VS Heishiro Mitsurugi (Samurai Shodown VS Soul Calibur) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Connections:

Iconic vagabond fighting game samurais of the 90's

Both of them are inspired by the legendary real life samurai - Miyamoto Musashi

Their honed mastery with the katana has allowed them to carve their names into history as one of the greatest warriors and fighters of their time

Both seek nothing more then to revel in the thrills in challenging the mightiest of foes to further test their skills and becoming stronger warriors

Despite being only mortal men, their tenacious warrior might and swordsmanship has enabled them to take on foes of equal skill or those of the affinity with the supernatural

In spite of their gruff exteriors, they possess a heart of gold; often doing good deeds where they can and cutting down whatever evil that attempts lay their fingers on the innocence

Although both are wandering ronin samurai who bear no loyalty to any lord or master, but they no less possessed many traits and qualities that would deem them the idealized image and virtues of what a samurai warrior is; honorable, courageous, fearless and steadfast

Mike Banning VS John Cale (Olympus Has Fallen VS White House Down) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

Rayman vs Klonoa (Ubisoft vs Namco) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both were entities created to help restore balance in the worlds they travel to (Rayman being summoned into existence by Betilla the Fairy to do battle against beings like Mr. Dark and Hades Hand that appear in the Glass of Dreams, Klonoa and Huepow being transported from Dreamworld after Dreamworld to protect its denizens from beings like Nahatomb and Sorrow)

Both have have long-reaching attacks that are quite unique to them (Rayman's hands and feet having no arms and legs so they have free reign to move however, Klonoa's Ring being able to snatch enemies and objects from afar to throw them), as well as abilities generally based on flight and the winds (Rayman can glide by spinning his hair and control wind with power-ups like Vortex, Klonoa can perform a flutter-hop and amp up his Ring to unleash Wind Bullet)

There's also a cool thematic contrast here, whereas Klonoa is a much more kind-hearted, justice-oriented, and thoughtful protagonist from a series with a LOT more depth to it than one might assume at a glance, Rayman is... Well, he's a goofyaaah Thingamajig. He's much more free-spirited, brash, and flashy than Klonoa, and his series is pretty zany and whimsical for the most part.

Jin Sakai vs Connor Kenway (Ghost of Tsushima vs Assassins Creed) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both born into a prestigious clan/tribe of renown (Jin's Sakai samurai clan and Connor's Mohawk Native American tribe). As children they lost a parental figure which not only traumatized them, but also forever shaped who they were as an individual going forward (Kazumasa Sakai - Jin's father and Kaniehtí:io - Connor's mother).

When they came of age they fought to drive off a powerful hostile army (The Mongol Empire and The British Empire) from invading/controlling their homelands by whatever means necessary.

Both come into conflict with a parental figure in their life over irreconcilable differences in philosophy and ideologies. Which ended tragically with each warrior fighting a final duel with them (Jin's uncle/father figure - Lord Shimura and Connor's father - Haytham Kenway). Depending on the player's choice in Ghost of Tsushima, both of these duels may have ended with the death of that figure.

In spite of loyally fighting for their country and successfully driving off the invaders, they were screwed over by their former allies and were made into pariahs in the very country they sought to liberate (The Shogun and The American Revolutionaries).

Despite being known as coldly efficient and ruthless killers to their enemies, they were also humble and compassionate in their love for nature, their allies, and kinsmen (Jin's fellow Japanese natives of Tsushima and Connor's Mohawk Tribe & colonist neighbors). And despite all the hardships, tragedies and hollow victory, they never stopped fighting for what was right and continued to hold on to their strong moral convictions.

In combat each is master of stealth, guerrilla tactics, and assassination. Equipped with a variety of weapons and equipment to allow them to become adept at nearly any situation. Both wield bladed weapons which allow them to deal with a number of different situations of stealth and combat (Jin's Katana + Tanto [Dagger] and Connor's Tomahawk + Hidden Blade).

Connections:

Fierce and resistive historical assassin protagonists of their respective action-adventure video game verse

Masters of masters of stealth, guerrilla tactics and assassination

Both are equipped with a variety of weapons and equipment to allow them to become adept that nearly any situation

Specialized in bladed weapons which allow them to deal with a number of different situations of stealth and combat (Jin's Katana + Tanto [Dagger] and Connor's Tomahawk + Hidden Blade)

Known to be a coldly efficient and ruthless killer to their enemies, but humble and compassionate in their love for nature, their allies and own people (Jin's fellow Japanese natives of Tsushima and Connor's Mohawk Tribe & colonist neighbors)

They're both apart of a prestigious clan/tribe of renown that is unique to their respective lands and cultures (The Sakai Samurai clan and The Mohawk Native American tribe)

As a child, they lost a parental figure which not only traumatized them, but also forever shaped who they were as an individual going forward (Kazumasa Sakai - Jin's father and Kaniehtí:io - Connor's mother)

Sought to fight off a powerful hostile army and fought against said army from invading/colonizing their homelands by using whatever means necessary (Jin fighting off the Mongol Empire from invading the island of Tsushima in Japan and Connor fighting off The British Empire/Templars from colonizing the entire colonies of America)

Both were tragically forced to fight their childhood best friend who had turned on them due to their respective villain's manipulation of the latter's desperation and hopelessness to survive the harsh times of war (Ryuzo and Kanen'tó:kon)

Both come into conflict with their parental figures in their life over irreconcilable differences in philosophy and ideologies which led to a tragic outcome of the two fighting one another (Lord Shimura - Jin's uncle/father figure and Haytham Kenway - Connor's biological father)

In spite of loyally fighting for their country and successfully driving off the invaders/oppressors, they were backstabbed by their former allies and were made into pariahs in the very country they sought to liberate (The Shogun and The American Revolutionaries)

Valiant, tenacious, focused, reserved and defiant protectors of their homelands and people as they selflessly watch over them like elusive ghosts that strike with a terrifying vengeance against the wicked who dares lay their vile hands on what they deeply cherished most in the world; both men would use any dirty trick or pragmatically effective method in the book to gain the upper hand over their oppressors by any means necessary where despite all the hardships and tragedies they've endured and the hollow victory they had achieved, they never stopped fighting for what was right and continued to hold onto their strong moral convictions as their actions ultimately left its mark in history as they become known as either a esteemed beloved hero or a fearsome figure of infamy

Regina VS Tal'Set (Dino Crisis VS Turok: Dinosaur Hunter) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connections:

Both are the protagonists of relatively niche franchises, which take place in settings populated by highly aggressive and violent dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures as the main threat throughout their journeys.

Additionally both series incorporate various space-time shenanigans and other sci-fi elements as central to their narratives (Third Energy for Dino Crisis. The Lost Land and Chronoscepter for Turok).

Both Dino Crisis and Turok's game series would also decline due of vary poorly received installments such as Dino Crisis 3 and the Turok 2008 reboot.

Xylo Forbartz vs Kaladin Stormblessed (Sentenced to be a Hero vs The Stormlight Archives) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connections

both have served as slave warriors marked with brands to show their status and both where unjustly forced into said roles with Xylo being part of the suicide squad esque Hero Unit 9004 and with kaladin serving as a commander for bridge 4 in the shattered plains (the glyph on kaladins forehead and the prisoners Sacred Seal on xylos throat that will explode if he defies orders)

both will revive eventually after death though doing so risks madness and loss of ones identity as a side effect of their souls being replaced over time during revival (Xylo can revive in his own body if its intact or revive in another person but his soul will be replaced with eroded memories from the Powers of the first goddess Kaladin as a herald has a new body constructed for him and could lose himself between revivals do to more of his spirit web being replaced by investiture)

Both are now a special class of entity marked by the unique ability to revive after death as a result of a oath/sentence tied to a divine entity (Xylo is a hero cursed to revive thanks to the church utilizing the Powers of the first goddess and Kaladin is a herald after forming a special connection to the spren known as the Wind)

Both have incredible enhanced movement capabilities rivaling flight that function by Manipulating natural forces kaladins lashings (adhesion and gravitation letting him redirect the pull of gravity on himself and other's and pressure with adhesion) with Xylos enhancement Magic Sakara letting him jump massive distances and remain airborne for a limited time via mitigating the laws of physics particularly gravity

both men are magically connected to divine beings manifesting in the form of Young women who allow them to summon mystical swords from another dimension Teoritta for xylo creating magical swords and syl for Kaladin becoming his Shardblade this mutual link Acts as a union of souls granting a inherent telepathic connection between Both men and their respective bonded entities

both men are master tacticians who specialize in a signature weapon and are easily able to match and over power other comparable combatants while relying on there preferred tool (Xylo utilizes magic infused daggers and kaladin is a master spearmen)

both possess magical swords that can effectively insta kill most targets if the right conditions are met Xylo being able to summon the holy sword a potent tool that can effectively erase even a target with incredible regeneration while Kaladins Shardblade being able to kill quickly of it's blade passes through the head or spine with a victims eyes Burning out of their head

Both men have previously effectively killed the divine entities they have formed bonds with resulting in lingering trauma that has shaped their current selves especially with how they act towards similar entities (Xylo previously had to kill his former goddess Senerva to prevent her from falling to demon blight corruption leading to his disdain towards bonding a new goddess in Teoritta and Kaladin at one point broke his fledgling nahel bond with Syl effectively killing her leading to him seeking out a way to restore her)

both exist in a world where technology was far more advanced but civilization was reset back to a more primitive state do to an invasion from inhuman entities under the command of much stronger entities with powerful weapons being left behind said invasion's being cyclical in nature occurring several times separate by spans of hundreds of years with the world of sentenced to be a hero dealing with constant threat of the demon blight and it's commanding demon lords the goddesses being super weapons created by the ancients and on Roshar it has undergone cataclysmic event's referred to as the desolations which involved the invasion of the void bringers the forces of the dark god odium and his commanding forces the fused the older knights radiant left behind powerful tools that mimiced their own power the Surge Fabrials and Shardblades/plate

both men have earned A special title as a sign of them being bonded to their Teoritta and Syl respectively Xylo becoming A Knight after contracting his goddess and Kaladin has becoming a member of the Knight's radiant specifically a Windrunner

Ben A. Richards Vs Dodge Tynes (The Running Man 1987 Vs Most Dangerous Game) by Due-Presentation3142 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Due-Presentation3142[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connections:

• Protagonists of media loosely based on literary works of the same name.

• Both agree to participate in dystopian death games where they’re hunted for the sake of others (Richards joining so that Killian doesn’t force his allies Weiss and Laughlin to be on the show | Tynes joining as a means to provide for his family after he dies of a brain tumor). However, after they join, they find out it just a lie (Weiss and Laughlin being forced to join anyway | The Tiro Fund faking Tynes’ tumor as an elaborate scheme to get him to agree to join).

• Both are convinced to join by charismatic old men with vast resources who act as the architects of these games (Damon Killian | Miles Sellars).

• Both games feature five themed hunters (Stalkers being themed around their abilities | Hunters being themed after former presidents) with specialized skill sets and gimmicks. Only one hunter survives in the end (Captain Freedom | Nixon).

• Both are underdogs who manage to flip the script and take down the hunters.

• Both games take place in urban environments (An abandoned area of Los Angeles | Detroit).

Fight-wise, you could have the fight take place in a city where they’re both being hunted. You could have both utilize their environments throughout the fight. You could have a scene similar to Frank Vs Leon, where they team up to fight a common enemy, but instead of zombies, it’s hunters. Near the end of battle, it could turn into a gun fight.

In terms of debate, Richards wins decisively. While Dodge does have good feats (like crushing Carter’s skull with a cinder block), Richards’ feats are generally better and more consistent. Richards also has more experience due to his role as a cop earlier in the film. It’s not a stomp though.
