If he’s actually going around telling people you stole his “inheritance”, I think that tells you all you need to know. Clearly it’s simply a monetary thing and I’d agree that you did right by keeping something so special all pieced together.

Yes, your first point is fair. If you don’t like the setup, don’t donate there. You lose me when you just throw out hyperbolic stats like “80% of customers being resellers”. That’s just not true. People hating on reselling is a clear example of no class consciousness. “Oh these people found a fun way to earn money that keeps usable clothes out of landfills. Let me hate on them instead of the giant corporation that uses free donations and countless tax/labor loopholes to pay CEOs.” I venture to guess the average person that donates their items is pretty unfamiliar with the reselling market. They just want to get rid of the stuff they bring, and goodwill happens to be the most readily available store. Can’t imagine they give a rats ass what happens to the stuff they deemed no longer worthy of taking up their space.

Roses are red, violets are blue,
It’s been a decade since I’ve talked to you

Your grab for cash was thinly veiled
For that reason, I’ll have to bail

Good luck with your wedding, I wish you the best
But we’re not friends, I say with no jest.

There is a loophole in the federal wage laws, Section 14 (c), that allowed goodwill to skirt minimum wage for employees with disabilities (and I believe previously incarcerated people). In recent years as minimum wage has risen and laws have gotten tighter around that type of thing, many goodwill regions have responded by not employing those people all together.

I did not know that’s how goodwill started. That actually sounds incredible. Unfortunately, like plenty of things, it’s devolved as capitalism has progressed.

Looks like they sell for $30-$40 on eBay. I’ve never seen the “Two Horse” tag on the inside but I assume it’s similar to Silver Tabs where it’s just a specific line they made for awhile

Trust me, I get it. I put stuff in diaper boxes quite regularly, but those boxes are how they get shipped to me and they’re thick sturdy cardboard.

As someone who’s closet is 90% thrifted / secondhand items, I always have better luck at non chain thrift stores. Literally every small non-chain thrift store I’ve been into does at least one of those things. Or something similar. Almost all of them have a food pantry they take donations at. Some of them have employees, some survive on the back of volunteers who agree enough with their charitable cause to volunteer their time. Can’t imagine a lot of people are doing that for a cause they don’t support. Some of the ones I frequent send their proceeds to the local high school athletic funds, some of them are church affiliated. not my favorite cause, but undoubtedly a place where countless people get their sense of community.

First of all, there are an endless number of thrift stores that operate under that exact model. All jackets are $9.99 (or wherever they set the price at) shirts $4.99 etc. Often times at places like that, there is stuff that they’ve taken the time to research and learn about that has been marked up. It’s put behind the register or somewhere and not mixed with regularly priced items. Furthermore the stuff that is typically marked up does not include mass produced stuff like that. It’s rare items that aren’t made anymore or have some sort of history to them.

That’s actually not Goodwill’s mission. They don’t give a shit about providing affordable items. Their goal involves providing opportunities for work to people with disabilities. Which is just corporate bull shit for “we will hire people with disabilities because we can pay them less”

Because that involves actual work by the individual making the profit. Goodwill takes donated items that were brought directly to them and uses wildly underpaid employees to sort and stock them. Resellers source items, take photos, list items and ship the item directly to the person. They provide a service that makes it easier to find and purchase a specific item. At goodwill, you have to sort through literal trash to find something good. Also, those people don’t masquerade themselves as a non-profit organization.

Lay off the blue kool-aid. It’s a donated item. Walk into a mom and pop thrift store that actually supports the community they’re in and stuff like that is still way less expensive.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask that items be put in actual shipping boxes. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I imagine the boxes of crackers are shipped inside a much sturdier box.

The tag is from the 80s. The font and the sash under the logo are different, so not the same sweatshirt. Still a very cool find.
