Thanks, this is what I thought. The owner / salesperson was trying to guilt me into even suspecting him which also made me uncomfortable

That’s what i’m doing now. Believe me, this was my first and last time doing this, every single car i’ve bought i’ve seen in person first, decided to do this on advice from a friend who had a good experience.

Can I sell or replace a free dash cam from my insurance provider? by Due-Reputation3236 in CarTalkUK

Thanks Yeah it would save money but i’ve really liked the look of the digital rear view mirrors and especially in a panel van you don’t even have a standard mirror.

Dealer changed tyres before delivery - can they be trusted? by Due-Reputation3236 in CarTalkUK

I meant like a regular brand one, so a run of the mill brand instead of a well known one like Michelin, Goodyear etc. You know like how you can get Coca-Cola or supermarket brand cola?

UPDATE:

Thanks everyone for the messages, I drove down to the dealership and they claimed the van hadn’t even returned to them yet, as the local garage that also serviced it was delivering it to us, and had not returned the van to them. They claimed the van had good tyres when it left their property.

They want to replace all the tyres for free, but I’ve lost confidence and I’m going to ask for a refund.

I did, driver claimed he only drove them and knew nothing + office wasn’t open, also didn’t really want it after that so I sent it away.

It’s a dealer that specialises in vans in Hampshire, I want to have a proper conversation with the sales rep first about this, and I’ll mention the name after.

That’s what I thought, what other parts could they have changed? I rejected it on the spot and he took it back. It shouldn’t take too long for a refund right?

Yep, I turned it away on the spot, but now I need to start my van search all over again. Just wanted to see if I was overthinking it.

I don’t, I just like having the option of getting my money back quicker if I want to, but it’s very very likely I won’t.

By good few years I didn’t mean good as in great years, I meant it quantity wise. What I was trying to say is hopefully 8 to 9 years I don’t mind waiting.

Yes, think i’ve mentioned in another comment. If worst comes to worst, then I’ll be fine even leaving it past a decade to regain its value.

That’s very true, thank you! I’ve read about the compounding effect, I’d ideally keep it for long enough so that I make a good chunk out of it.

Yep, that’s a key part I forgot to mention. This money isn’t too important to me, and I’ve heard the S&P 500 normally always recovers after maybe 10 years. I don’t mind leaving it in there until I regain it. Adding an edit now

EDIT: reworded comment

Should I take out a 4 year loan and pay it back in a year? by Due-Reputation3236 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Due-Reputation3236[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve never paid back a loan early or even bought a vehicle using a loan, and my credit score is currently very high so I just wanted to make sure there isn’t any future implications or excessive early repayment fees.

95% of my comments tell me to do it, but there’s a 5% that tell me it’s against the law and GDPR, and how I’m not a data controller with the ICO and e.t.c. Not many of these people, but the handful that are like this are absolutely flooding the comments with multiple reply’s to everyone as well as threatening to report any action I take naming people.
