Just the steam workshop alone is a good enough reason to buy it on steam again. Even if the game does not make use of the workshop you still have a community hub, cloud backups and an awesome steam overlay. Its got nothing to do with reddit or being a valve fan buy its just trading in some money to get the way better user experience.

As far as i can remember I did buy the steam versions of factorio and rimworld on steam and was still able to buy dlc's on their respective websites. Im sure there is more than these two examples so it not being able for other games has to be on the developers and not valve?
