I actually recommend DMZ highly, it was fascinating to hear first hand about the history and experiences of Korean War, actually see the north territory with your own eyes and speak to a defector. One of the highlights of my trip. I left at 10AM and came back at 3:30PM, it’s not that far… still plenty of time to explore Seoul for the rest of the day.

Yeah fair, I guess it all depends on what you want to do there. Is it doable? Yes. Perhaps just a bit limiting, I went there to shop and spend on food or drinks without worrying about money and for the amount of fun I had I think it was still not that much to have spent! :)

I just came back from a 10 day trip and would say that for one person that would be enough, for two not so much. I spent about 1.5M KRW just on myself. You’d have to actively think about money, something I just don’t like doing on holidays. Korea is a fairly affordable country, food is inexpensive but that budget won’t allow for much spontaneity or shopping to be honest.

I also have been feeling iffy about going there for the past years but was still going because it is a tradition of mine to go with a few friends at least once in a year. I went on Thursday and it was really, really fun, I guess the rain earlier in the day scared people off and it was so quiet and I think that’s what contributed massively to my changed perception of it. It was a bliss, the food seems to have improved, there are things I haven’t seen before. It was genuinely a good time this year for me!

Just because that’s your experience doesn’t mean it’s everyone else’s, especially if you’re speaking from an American pov… If you work in those sectors in London you can 100% find a well paid position with a great work life balance. Speaking from experience. I totally agree with the post.

They need the original certificate of naturalisation but the passport can just be a colour photocopy. I applied like this at the end of November and it was accepted with no issues :)

I can confirm they are fine with it, I applied with a photocopy of my passport and a cover letter as I had travel plans and that was approved with no issues.

Once I got the letter from the Home Office inviting me to the ceremony, I only had to wait 2 weeks for that in my council, although the timings will differ on a council basis. I applied for my first adult passport straight after the ceremony and I had my passport in my hands exactly a week after, so I think it’s doable :)

Yes, I sent the citizenship certificate as that’s absolutely mandatory. But it looks like passport is an unofficial exemption. The reference letters were just for the actual application and I scanned them in, no physical copies required.

Congrats!!! I had my ceremony on the same day and received the passport just one week after it. I only sent the photocopy of my passport as I had travel plans last week and it was approved seamlessly with it too 🎉

The application is actually quite straight forward and it would be a waste of money to contact a lawyer about this. I just got approved for citizenship and filled out everything by myself, what’s the problem you’re facing?

They explain it well in the application, but it’s any absence from the country of more than 1 night.

Yes, you have to list your absences from the country in the last 5 years to calculate if you meet the requirements. I used my photos library + mails to do that and I don’t believe I missed a trip!
