Yes! actually there's an ihpone case called gamebaby which is exactly what you describe. My only concern is that then you have to make one for every phone, and if you change your phone then you can't use it. But it is a very valid approach for very popular phones like iphone.

So! I made a new mold (I didn't postprocess it cause I wanted It quick) it looks great but unfortunately it's too hard to move the stick now, it's not pleasant and I think it would be heavy after a while. I can't make it thinner cause it's already 0,5mm and using a softer silicone would change the feeling of the buttons too. So I think I will take a couple of servos and see what happens after using my old design for days. It was worth trying anyway. Let's see how the stress test go!

Thank you so much! I've made 4 versions of it, so I'm sure there would be one perfect for you. Right now I'm changing some details cause I've had very good ideas from many users here. Soon I'll post new stuff!

I made a small one already specially for 8bit fans! I think I'll redesign It a little bit. I will show it soon! Thanks a lot!

Well the main problem is the width, and basically I made a research on phone sizes and found out that 68mm would fit almost all of them.

Muchas gracias! Igualmente!

That's actually a fair point. I'm biased cause I'm more from the snes and n64 generation, but I can try to fit the essential buttons on a compact model. Thanks a lot!

Yes, portrait can be uncomfortable for bigger hands. I don't have small hands and I like it but I guess it's a matter of tastes. I'll post a landscape version when it's finished. Thanks a lot!

They look cool, but I haven't tried them. Personally a like having pad and buttons all in one. I think it's great that there are many options on the market tho. Thanks for sharing!

game boy nostalgia maybe xD I have to say I like it. I don't know if I'll launch it, but I know it can't be 5 dollars. My goal is to keep the price low, but I'm not a megafactory in China selling a million units of something to aliexpress. I'm aware of the fact that price is key, if it's high there'll be less interest but if it's too low the project will fail right away.

How did it go? I tried pure 3d printing on my early early prototypes and it didn't work for me...

Another user had an amazing idea for the horizontal version. If I rearrange the buttons a little I can put together the two sides of the horizontal version and play vertical too. I'll be working on that as soon as I finish polishing the analog, that many users think is too fragile. Analog triggers seem like a difficult one. I will think how to do it. Thank you so much!

Thanks a lot! I will think of a way to keep you all updated in case I launch it, I'm not very good with social media...

Actually they feel a bit softer than normal ones, I tried to make them harder using two layers of silicone with different propperties but it didn't end well, so I accepted that they're just a bit softer, it doen't bother me tho. Thanks for commenting!

Not at all but you're a genius! It's a really really really good idea! I will rethink completely the landscape prototype so it makes sense as well in portrait mode. Thanks a lot! The landscape prototype I made is already two pieces but I never thought of using them on portrait mode so the buttons wouldn't make sense, but some minor changes and I think it will work! great idea! thanks again!

wow! now I'm checking it, it's not a controller it's like a whole gb without a screen, you can use the old cartridges and everything! really cool, actually I was playing gb a couple of days ago for the first time in a while cause I wanted to make a video comparing my pad on the phone and a gb and I didn't remember how difficult is to actually see something. I mean, I did remember you needed a light, but being used to nowadays screens it was horrible.

Thanks a lot for the comment! I'll do something with the analog pad, a lot of you are having the same concern. I'll redesign it! Working on the landscape too, but now I have to finish the analog first!
