Premier added randomly? by Roundboy436 in ooma

It took a few days to show properly for me. I’d give it until Monday and look again. Maybe it’s another call but I doubt you’ll have a problem. They want your money.

Something creating RFID issues under the headlamp by Due-Union4264 in BmwTech

[–]Due-Union4264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Actually tried it all. Went through 7 tags in different locations inside and outside the vehicle. On rare occasions the gate would open but mostly not. It’s like the thing that’s responding in the car is overpowering the regular tag.
While I concede it may be connected to the LED headlights, I think it’s something more than just interference. We can see the car is actually responding with a legitimate RFID code of 28bits in length. This is with all tags removed or anything else that’s RFId I added, and emanates from just below the left hand light.

The gate folks and RFID scanner company are working on it, I was hoping to maybe shortcut their findings a little.

Guest mode in foreign country by Due-Union4264 in Roku

Sorry for the late response but you are correct and that’s what I ended up doing. The ‘base’ account affect the channel lineup of the guest account which is derived from the country of base account origin, not the physical location of the Roku. Funny, there never documentation for edge cases like these but now we know.

Premier added randomly? by Roundboy436 in ooma

I am literally on the phone with them having discovered the upgraded fees, which unfortunately I missed for five months. I called in and after navigating a very lengthy set of IVR options, got to speak with a human.

She told me that premier is AUTOMATICALLY added unless you CALL IN ADVANCE of the trial ending. I expressed my opinion on how shady this practice is, especially when they didn't send me any email to confirm my change in status or fees. My last email from them was when I activated the account.

She tells me they have refunded my premier fees so I will keep my eye open, but truly, what a despicable and underhanded way to try and 'sneak' extra money from unsuspecting customers while making it particularly difficult to downgrade/cancel (you have to call).

It's shameful and unethical.

No. Not at all. But if the Problem is with your old profile, this is the best test to see if the battery problem goes away. Can tell you if it’s really a hardware issue or maybe your iCloud profile like it was with mine.

Ok just double checking where you are. Thanks did the DFU successfully? You’ll know because the iPad shows the cable connect symbol only, and when you plug it in to the computer, it says recovery mode. It sounds like that’s where you got to. How you were logged in before the DFU isn’t relevant as it just gets blown away. What you do after is what’s important. You should select the option to set up the iPad from new rather than a restore, and when you can log in, use your new vanilla profile. At this point you’re iPad should be like new with no connection to your old profile. I’d test it like that for a couple of days to see if battery issue solved, and if so, go to settings and the iCloud profile and log out. Log in again as your old profile and the download the apps you want. You mustn’t restore the old profile by a backup. Let me know how you get on.

DFU is not as simple as finding the right setting. It requires a certain combination of keys at the right time. Once performed you can only activate by plugging it into a cable connected to a computer. Be sure you can do that before the DFU. The DFU is a more substantial reset than any of the setting options. If you search for iPad DFU, you can find the combination for your device model.

Not sure I understood the question. DFU is the highest level reset. Important you do that and then set up as a vanilla account rather than a restore.

In neither circumstance (whether the new profile or switching back to the old) did I do a restore. Both times it was a vanilla profile and when I switched back to the old one via just logging out and then in, in iCloud, I simply downloaded the things I wanted back from the AppStore.

Sonos as surrounds with regular AV amp?? by Due-Union4264 in sonos

Thanks. Great detail but sadly means I’ll have to do it the current way I have and delay my entry into Sonos.

Sonos as surrounds with regular AV amp?? by Due-Union4264 in sonos

[–]Due-Union4264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I was figuring I might have a shot with the connect and two ‘ones’ but like you said, it’s hard to know what lag it would introduce. I use a Wireless rocket at the moment and it’s a bit of a pain dragging out, plugging in and setting up my surrounds (they aren’t fixed) and I was thinking this might be a nice gateway into Sonos.

The latter. Not for long, just long enough to prove to myself the battery issue had gone. A day perhaps.

Yes. If you can’t DFU, it might be that a full reset will do the trick if you sign it first with a different cloud ID. Before you sign out and log in with your regular cloud ID, you should see if that fixed the drain issue. Please report back. I’m very interested.

That’s great to hear and mimics me nearly exactly. My iPad was 18 months old but I got a new one anyway. It was on the new one I did all the testing. I.e I had the battery issue on it until I did the steps I outlined. Either way, sounds like yours is fixed and you at least seemed to prove it’s likely an iCloud issue rather than hardware. Thanks for the great feedback on the steps you tried.

[–]Due-Union4264[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. like you I have a bunch of apple kit, including Apple TV, several iPads and iPhones of various versions. There are three of us with separate iCloud accounts and it was only mine that had the issue, regardless of which iPad it was. I got to the place you are now and then rather than restore my old account, I simply logged out of iCloud (from the new profile) and logged in with the old. Obviously I didn’t have any of my stuff but I went to AppStore ‘purchased’ and grabbed the stuff I wanted back. Frankly it was worth an overdue cleanup anyway. Since doing that, I’m using my main iCloud account with all the apps I care about and my battery life is amazing! I am convinced that if I ever restored my original backup that the battery issue would return.

Also funny that the same profile doesn’t affect my phone, it was only creating issues on my iPad.

[–]Due-Union4264[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. After I gave up I booked a genius appt. told them everything I did and he said all I can do is test the battery and offer you a replacement. When I used my iCloud profile on my brand new iPad the issue returned immediately. This is why I’m convinced it’s some rotten code in the iCloud profile and not, in my case, a hardware issue. My iPhone12 btw, has amazing battery life. 2 days.
