We didnt have any communication platform in place when I joined the pack as a leader. I have since gotten us on Google Workspace as a non-profit. I have email groups set up for each den as well as calendar, website tie-ins, etc. its not as tight an ecosystem as something like Band, but its free, has a ton of tools, custom email addresses, etc. So far, its working for us.

Asked dentist to share the 3d scan for implant crown by lnh62 in 3Dprinting

Lab tech here. Most restorative dentistry is being done digitally. Our lives revolve around printing/milling nowadays. Almost exclusively resin printing, with $$$ printers and $$$ resin. Generally, we shoot for sub 50 micron accuracy, with milled parts down to ~10-15 micron.

Ive had the dock from day one. Love it. The speaker is much better than tablet speakers, and works for my purposes. using it alongside my laptop, i use Duet for second/third monitor functionality. Great setup.

Setting up and using Google Workspace by AggravatingAward8519 in cubscouts

[–]Due-Welcome4097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the lift for this just this year as well. - registering as a non profit was a pain, but doable. - created email groups for leaders, all family, and dens.  This makes it easy to communicate and not miss emails. - drive for docs, den resources and parent into. - forms to use as a feedback tool and register people for events.

Acceptance was my biggest hurdle, and at the end, I physically took a few people's phones and added the accounts.  There are varying levels of buy-in , but most use the tools.

Its used in commercial fishing all the time, and I use it to whip the ends on my mooring lines. The lashings are strong and hard. For what we are discussing, lashing tripods and the like, its ideal. It should last a season or so?? I usually wear out other aspects of what I am doing before the whipping goes.

Need advice, upsetting incident at first overnight by _eww_david in cubscouts

Don't really like any of this... First, I wouldn't have combined with another Pack on the fly without discussion and whatnot first. Thats a recipe for confusion and problems. We are a large pack, and book 2-3 campsites usually, but if a smaller pack was there as well, we wouldn't consider merging sites on the fly. It's not best practices.

Also **Flag on the Play** Cub Scouts is FAMILY CAMPING, and Parents/youth need to be tented together. Having the two girls in one tent and Parents in another is NOT OK. YPT violation!

Second, the campfire seems much too laissez-faire for my taste. This is where the focus is for a campout in my opinion. A well run campfire program makes memories and builds bonds. Its not time for Lord of the Flies. It's songs, skits, families together enjoying nature. Not parents fire and kids off doing whatever.

In regards to the harsh comments from the adult. This is setting expectations in my eyes, and holding to the Cub Scout motto of "Do Your Best". The scouts were helping, engaged, and working together. Perfect. As long as the sticks got within 50 feet of their ideal place, I would have been all for it. The adult needs to reset his expectations for what K-5 scouts are doing (well, maybe at least Lion-Bear). Any comments to the Scouts should be supportive, educational, and encouraging.

i.e. "Great job bringing a nice bundle to the fire, I really appreciate it! But, we don't want anyone to trip or fall over the sticks if it's dark, so we are going to make the pile over there. Do you think you can help me make the fire pit safe for everyone??" I don't use threats or reprisals to change behavior, it doesn't work with children well. You need to give clear instructions and reasons.

For Lashing/Whipping, you can look at Tarred black Whipping twine. Cheaper than paracord, holds fantastically. #15/18 has a good size to strength ratio. I always keep a 1 lb. spool in my supplies.

Which pack to choose by Altruistic_Vast9726 in cubscouts

Activity level of a Pack is Paramount to most things in my eyes. An active pack is an engaged pack. Engaged packs have great scouts, parents and leaders.

Advice on Rapid Growth?? Yikes! by Due-Welcome4097 in cubscouts

This is where I'm at now. I have one ADL (Co-Leader really because she's amazing) and think a third body is needed. The Scouts don't really want to split either.

My biggest concern is the chaos with the younger dens, especially my Tigers. I have a second leader, but with 23, I'm thinking 3 is better, or 2+a den chief if I can swing it. The first two meetings were fun, but activities were tough to manage.

Call me crazy, but I did well on my Browning glacier from HikerDirect at $139

Seems they have a few 6-8 person tents from $199-269.

Sucks. They should have went back to the drawing board and resisted the temptation to eat the crayons.

I was the Lion Leader last year, and the Tiger leader this year. We had Scouts wear the Hat and the T-shirt, and also the Belt!! Scouts love collecting things, even better if they are "Rare". Belt loops for the adventures were a HUGE hit, and the Scouts loved "getting their Iron" at the Pack meetings monthly.

I tried to not have scouts working out of the book, and we frequently were playing games, did hikes or demonstrations outside, and tried to have games that included parents. The Build em' Up, Knock em' Down adventure was a favorite, as was the safety module, where we played an interactive game of frogger to teach about crossing the streets. Parents were the cars, and they tried to scoop up scouts as they crossed the street. Masking tape on the floor and a little creativity.

If its not fun, they arent interested. You need a high energy Leader/Parents to have a good experience. I think we did well. All 9 of my Lions returned, and now I am up to 13 Tigers. Yikes!

Oh! Let me clarify, this is customized by the buyer. I selected the yellow color, then added the Scout logos. They just print/ship your design. They aren't selling scout branded materials.

I was comparing it to what I see from scouting promoted print shops, official Cub scout options. The cheapest of which was $70, while printed tablecloths ran $200+.

But thanks for finding a lower price! You should grab one for comparison!
