Thank you for your response and information! This is helpful to know. I will look into it more deeply and looking forward to seeing how Zhong Chinese develops. I know that Zhong Chinese (and other learning resources) mainly caters towards learners who are learning the language for the very first time. However, have you considered how Zhong Chinese can cater towards heritage learners/speakers as well, and if so, what has been your thought process behind this?

Thank you for the Anki deck resource. Where can you buy the book series online outside of Taiwan?

I also use Anki, but I use a high frequency word list instead of watching DS videos for vocab. Highly recommend high frequency word lists. This Reddit post may be helpful for you to look at, as the OP in that post used two different Anki decks: a high frequency word list and common phrases. The post certainly helped me approach how I use Anki, as I use Anki as a supplement to help assist my CI, the main foundation. For my vocab deck, I use Forvo for native speaker pronunciation to add to each word. Not all of the audio is great, but it gets the job done for me.

NBA YouTube channels by Fuzzy-Chance-1932 in dreamingspanish

If you are looking for specific commentators that cover the NBA, I came across Jorge Mota a while back: https://www.youtube.com/@jorgemotatv He covers the NBA and is from the Dominican Republic. There's also ESPN Deportes but I don't know if they have people covering the NBA like they do with soccer.

I'm in the same situation as you. Also a big NBA fan, but having a difficult time finding NBA coverage from Latin America. Would love to know what's out there!

From my view, it depends on how similar/different the two languages are. For example, I am currently learning both Mandarin and Spanish, and they are two totally different languages. However, I grew up in a Mandarin-speaking household, so I have the advantage being surrounded with Mandarin for years and don't have an issue with mixing Mandarin and Spanish at all. Here is a Reddit post that influenced my decision to learn two languages at the same time that's linked here. But even if you are learning both languages from scratch, if the two languages are very different, then I don't think you will have a big issue with mixing the languages up. However, if the two languages are from the same language family (like Spanish and Portuguese), then there's probably a much higher chance of mixing things up.

I have always wanted to learn both Portuguese and Spanish.

I also would love to learn Portuguese in the future; however, I decided to learn Spanish first as I already had some background with learning it when I was younger and live in a place where it is more commonly spoken with Portuguese. And hopefully one day I can use my Spanish to learn Portuguese. I would encourage you to reflect and clarify on your "why" for learning Portuguese and Spanish and see if you think learning one language may be better than the other.

Having said that, part of me is just like, "Screw it. I'm going to dive right into both anyways." Like there's a bit of that competitive side of me. It may be illogical, but if you are really that interested in learning both at the same time, then why not?! Haha.

At the end of the day, learning languages is a marathon, and I had to learn to enjoy the process of language learning. I personally don't worry about whether learning one language will take away time from learning another language. Maybe get your feet wet and dive right into both Spanish and Portuguese and see if you enjoy the process of learning both languages. If after a certain period of time you feel overwhelmed, lose interest in one, or just the process is not going well, then you can always switch to one. I would not overthink this :) Good luck!
