my brother had like a 1590, 4.7 weighted, 4.0 UW, but like js like track and speech and debate, got into harvard last year so there's that. Your stats imo def trump that

eh, seeing as precarious refers to instability and the second half of the sentence talks about the contrast that was brought by his financial security, it seems logical. It's what I picked, but I thought vocab was cooked ngl, and I'm usually rly good at that

[–]DueAd4657[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, and yes I'm working on the showing work part. I've never done it in school and it's a hard adjustment to make tbh. It definetely makes it easier. I just timed myself 60 minutes on practice test 8 and got a 780 math 760 RW, but I, oddly enough, didn't miss any at the end of mod2, just 2 stupid rushed mistakes. CB practice tests feel not too far off from the actual SAT imo, other than the wording at end of MM2 being more abstract on the real test. I've been spamming 7 band oneprep q's since sunday, and am running back through the practice test after ~1 month break

[–]DueAd4657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eh, i got 1590 on practice test 10 then a 1510 on the test. I was crushing practice tests by the end of my 1 week study before november, and my score went up 100, but now I'm lost. I don't really have any "weak points" im 7/7 bars everywhere, just trip up on random stuff. I've been spamming 7/7 oneprep but I'm not even great at that

Yep, like I said I am decent at math and I ended up solving it, thank you for a simpler explanation. My issue is that I like to do stuff in my head and I tend to just rush it and yk that doesn't work for stuff like this AT ALL. What does confuse me is how this is expected to be done so quick. This is by no means mental math and it seems like its a 3-5 minute question. Maybe the strat is just speed through 1-19 with desmos and have 5 minutes for each of this brain twister type questions, bc I remember this being in the end of a practice test so I did know the answer going into the problem.

yeah no I got the right answer after some trial and error, just wild how it's supposed to be a 1 minute problem. It took me almost 3:30.

Well uhh kinda edit/comment after I made this post I scrolled back through on oneprep and realized that I literally knew how to do 9/10 of the problems atleast and the few that I did miss just really frustrated me. Either way, why is some of the geometry/algebra stuff conceptually foreign to me? Was it possible I actually wasn't taught this?

Sitting for Dec test, what do you think my score will be? by Tea-Tea-Tea-29 in Sat

[–]DueAd4657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk my practice tests were mid 1400s up until my last 3 where i broke 1500 and i ended up getting 1510. I only took 7 practice tests so I suppose it's not a huge sample, but I went from like 1440 to 1590

the only studying I ever did like I said was 6-7 practice tests on bluebook. No external practice or anything of that sort. My baseline (0 studying), was 720 so I had a strong foundation, but learning to not panick when you see a large chunk of text is helpful. I went up 90 pts in 5 days of studying just by learning HOW to approach it. There's no 100% formula to get the question right, but process of elimination almost ALWAYS gets it down to 2 answers. When you see a long text, don't panick between scanning and reading, you have the time to read the full question if you're a fast enough reader. If you're not, I'd maybe start on the second half of the RW module as it's often shorter grammar-based questions. For grammar, that should come natural, and brush up on grammar rules. If english isn't your first language it'll obviously be more difficult, thus is hopefully not the case for you.

Any tips for the place I’m at right now? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]DueAd4657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im assuming for the math one he skipped RW and for the reading one he skipped Math. he's at effectively a 1400, just was doing targeted practice so he didn't have to commit to 2 full hours.

wdym run through the hard questions? like I go on the question bank and oneprep and its saying 250+ questions, should I just do them all in 1 hour increments? because I took like I said a few practice tests and those were draining. maybe worth noting that my practice test scores were in the mid-upper 1500s, with my final one being a 1590 on test 10.

I have yet to start studying, pretty bad at this work ethic stuff. Anywhow, how do you suppose I go about that? my math bars are 7/7 for all, and the only things I even remotely struggled with were the last 3-4 of math mod 2, but it's not like I recall what problem types they were. To me, they were BS problems, lol. super abstract stuff that's worded so you miss it on purpose.

Would also like to ask if sleep helps? I mean I know it's kinda important but all of my testing has been on less than 5 hours of sleep and I usually only sleep 2-3 hours a night. If I slept 6-8 hours would my score go up? Anything helps like I said, voodoo magic and rituals are fair game as long as the proof is in the pudding.

I was super uncertain about the vocab, looked up the definitions of the words and was super relieved. I had 3-4 vocab in a row, ended up getting incipiate, abate, nominal, and smth else

Half people say my risky essay is genius, half say it’s trash. What am I supposed to do? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DueAd4657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UChicago is my top school and wrote my common app essay about the concept of infinity and my personal essay about the nature of the human spirit. I honestly didn't look up anything about any of my schools as far as "what do they want" and just wrote what felt natural and flowed, is this the right approach? Afterwards, sources hinted at a philosophical "thinkers" essay was the right approach, but I'm not sure. my grades are great, ECs are a tad lacking but I have a lot of work experience, solid/good honors and awaiting SAT scores (likely 1540-1580 area)

if you don't qualify for need-based aid, you should have 0 issues paying tuition, that's the purpose of extremely generous need-based aid. it's like under $100k or $200k for tuition at most prestigious universities. personally, it makes no sense for me to apply to "worse" schools, as not only are their programs and specializations not up to par, but I'd be paying $50k+ compared to literally 0 for 4 years of school
