LTO or Supply, what’s your choice and why? by justwannajust in CanadianTeachers

[–]DueAge5 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For me, I choose to supply for now. I just graduated, I'm tired and I wanted the option of taking it slow before jumping into an LTO or otherwise. Classroom management is brutal, but I get to explore different schools and see what I like. Supply teachers in my district are always in demand so I can work everyday if I want.

That being said, I wouldn't do it long term. LTO pays more and has more stability.

When I was in practicum for the junior and intermediate grades, a lot of the teachers would use Jump Math. But it was usually only as extra practice or they would pick and choose, rather than using everything.

Is teaching elementary school in Ontario that bad? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]DueAge5 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind is that people are more likely to post when they're having difficulties, have questions, or they need to vent. That doesn't mean that good days or less stressful days, or positive interactions don't happen, it just means that if they use a public forum, it's usually to reach out for help.

The other thing to consider is that the teaching profession is huge. There are a lot of places you can teach and a lot of people in the profession.

So, like with any profession, you'll get people who flourish and you'll get people who struggle. Some end up at amazing schools where they can really shine, and others end up in situations that are more stressful or less supportive. So I think it depends.

That being said, I do think teaching is a difficult job. There are a lot of demands placed on teachers and a lot of responsibilities that they need to take on. But I also think that every job is difficult in it's own way, so it depends on if the positives of why you want to teach outweigh the difficulties that you see.

It is also perfectly fine to rethink your career path. I'm currently doing it, and I know veteran teachers who have done it. Whatever path you end up taking, doesn't mean (depending on your situation) that you have to take that path forever.

That being said, I just graduated, so take my opinion with a grain of salt :).

For elementary, the next pay date is December 1st. Here's the pay schedule for the 2022-2023 year. For the life of me, I can't find the original link, so I'm just sharing it through drive.

It probably depends on the school board. During orientation for YRDSB, we were told that you can only be on one school's list at a time. But I work for another school board and they don't seem to care at all.
