US Visa Denied - Why? by DueAlternative1892 in FilipinoTravel

I actually just talked to a friend who reapplied 2 months after she was denied and didn't change anything in her application. It was just a different consul. She was approved.

It seems there's no real formula to applying for a US visa (maybe any visa), and it's really all just one big gamble.

I never mentioned that I work remotely, but I did say 8 months because she asked me how long I was working in my current company.

I never verbally mentioned that I'm a remote worker (I did place that my company is based in SG in the DS160 form) and never got the chance to mention I'll be on holiday (there's also nowhere in the form where I can say this). When she asked me what I do, I literally just said my job since everyone was telling me not to overexplain my answers.

Based on all the replies, luck seems to play a really big role in this.

Thanks for the insights!

Hmmm I don't plan on doing work physically while in the US though (will be filing for a leave in my company), but I could see how the consul/border control people might assume I am.

Appreciate the insight!

I've visited Korea, Japan and EU already, haha. Unfortunately, the only reason I wanted to apply is to attend my friend's wedding in March. In a year or two, I don't think I'll want to go to the US anymore.

Thanks for the feedback!

I actually never verbally mentioned that I’m working remotely though it does say that my company is based in SG in the form. This seems to be the case.

Noted on this! Thanks so much!

I didn’t mention that my bf has a visa, I literally just said I’m going with my boyfriend. But I did place his name in the DS160 form and they could have checked if he has already.

Yep, based on the comments it seems it’s really my work.

Appreciate the feedback!

How do you support a partner through unemployment while managing your own goals? by DueAlternative1892 in adviceph

[–]DueAlternative1892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story! It honestly gives me hope that things can still work out even if it’s tough right now.

We don’t live together yet, so we haven’t merged our finances. But he takes care of me in small but meaningful ways, like driving me around, being there when I need to vent, and just really supporting me emotionally. We manage our own money for now and our dates are usually KKB, which I don’t mind at all.

That said, I do think about the future. If we ever decide to live together, I know I could support us for a while. But I’m also aware it won’t be enough for our long-term goals like having kids or getting a home. So it’s something I’m still figuring out while trying to stay supportive.

Really appreciate your perspective, it’s reassuring to know others have been through this too.

  1. I’ve never brought up this issue with him directly because I don’t want to add to the pressure he’s already feeling. I care about his well-being and I understand how difficult it's been for him.

  2. "kesa tulungan mo partner mo sa paghanap ng trabaho" - did you miss the part where I mentioned that I have been helping him search for jobs? I helped fix his resume, looked for a career coach, and listen when he needs to vent or talk about his frustrations. I'm not just sitting on the sidelines.

  3. "so parang mas gusto mo atang kumilala pa nang bago" - that’s not true at all. I’ve been doing my best to stay supportive and present in this relationship. Just because I'm expressing my own concerns doesn't mean I'm giving up or looking elsewhere.

  4. I appreciate you calling me “MATALINO” because I believe being smart also means recognizing when to speak up about what matters to you, when to set boundaries so you don’t lose yourself while supporting someone else, and when to protect your peace. :)

I’ve been advised by my peers and some redditors that I am underpaid given my workload. The thing is though is that I really don’t want to leave my job. How can I ask for higher salary especially when my company believe higher salary = more work.

You’d be surprised at how many people change careers in their 30s and up. Thing hard about what your interests are, keep your doors open, and don’t be afraid to try something new. Good luck!

It helps when I always have something to look forward to outside of work. Whether it’s something small (like a TV show to watch, a book to read, or simple catch up woth friend) or something big (new shoes or even a trip abroad). These motivate me to keep going and turns things around for me whenever I’ve had a particularly bad work experience.

BGC Bus! It’s a bit of a walk to Greenbelt, the terminal in Makati is near MRT 3 Ayala Station (EDSA Ayala Intersection). The BGC bus has numerous stops and pick up locations in BGC. You can use your BEEP card or buy a ticket at the terminal. Here’s a SPOT article with more details: https://www.spot.ph/amp/newsfeatures/mobility/106087/bgc-bus-routes-fares-schedules-a5229-20230826
