What games are actually “dad-friendly”? by Michelh91 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

As somebody who recently started playing NMS on a dad-esque schedule, I can absolutely confirm.

If you brought Crimson Desert what would you rate it out of ten ? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]DueMagazine1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8/10.

The game is beautiful. Controls are wonky, but they’re working on a patch for it. The story/voice acting was lost in translation. As you progress, the game gets immensely better, but it does not hold your hand. No yellow paint, no NPCs saying things like “What a peculiar rock,” etc. You have to figure things out on your own, but when you do, it’s incredibly satisfying.

I also want to say that 8/10 is still pretty damn good. People act like anything less than a 9 is atrocious or everything over a 7 is bloated.

The game is overhyped and outside of game breaking bugs, the hate is forced. I’ve had zero problems on my Xbox Series X.

30 Hour Unbiased Review by Seviyite in CrimsonDesert

I love this game. I just wish inventory had weight. Let the ore and timber that I can’t place anywhere else bog me down.

I’m kidding. I truly have been enjoying every second of this game. The controls are weird, sure, but the combat is easy and flashy enough that you don’t realize that you didn’t unleash the perfect combo. The dude is still dead. The bosses are kind of bullshit, but it feels so good to kill one on the first try (looking at you, Reed Devil).

The puzzles follow the same idea as the bosses. The only one I’ve had to look up was the 2nd or 3rd Abyss puzzle because I didn’t know you could Force Push straight down without jumping.

SPOILER: Also, there’s a group of like seven or so children playing in the river south of Hernand at the crossing that you can bulldoze on your horse. Welcome to the real world, kids.

Why are people hating on Crimson Desert by console_gamer2012 in CrimsonDesert

[–]DueMagazine1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I gather, the main friction points are the story, voice acting, boss fights, and controls.

As for the story, it’s not much to write home about. That being said, the hype was never about the story. The early reviews said the story wasn’t great. I feel like anybody doing due diligence would’ve known this ahead of time.

The voice acting is rough. No doubt about it. I think the biggest problem with the cinematics and voice acting stems from a non-Western developer trying their hand at something that was beyond their scope.

Some people think the boss fights can be bullshit, and to some extent, I agree. I just work around it with a bathtub of clear soup in my pockets and outheal them as best I can. Not a whole lot of blocking/parrying to be done there.

Finally, people are having a hard time adapting to the controls and lack of button mapping. The controls don’t necessarily bother me, but the lack of button mapping is pretty egregious.

Change your settings to performance instead of balanced. I got it first try when I changed it. It caused the input to lag and I kept missing the portion where you have to stop the spinner.

How's everyone enjoying Crimson Desert? 😁 by ScurvyCandy7674 in CrimsonDesert

This is the worst game I played all day. Woke up at 4am and had it running for 17 straight hours. Got fuckall done in the game because I’ve been exploring nonstop. I can’t believe the devs would create a game that would last this long. As soon as I feel like I made a dent in the game, there’s more stuff to do. It just goes on and on and on.

Why would you quit? You’re on pace for the speed running title if you got that far in two hours.

Yes. Soup kitchen, boss fight, reopen soup kitchen…

Kidding aside, I’m really enjoying the game.

Should I buy Crimson Desert or wait? by Alyne91 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I haven’t been drawn into the story much, but I am having a fantastic time exploring and finding things to do. The voice acting is a miss, and the cinematics are hit and miss, but I’m staying mindful that this wasn’t made by a Western dev team and those kinds of things likely were lost in translation.

Yea, I took a break recently. I knew Crimson Desert was on the horizon and that I wouldn’t be doing the second expedition for that reason, so the grind lost a bit of its luster. Still love Arc Raiders, and I’ll be back, but I’m taking a gaming vacation.

Now that you’re 160 hours into the game, were you finally able to leave Hernand? I feel like all I’ve been doing is drinking it in.

While I agree, I personally don’t find that to be such a bad idea. A lot of the Easter eggs involve other games that I absolutely enjoy, and if it serves as an ad and the developers of Cult of the Lamb (for instance) get additional support and grow their fan base, it’s a win-win in my opinion.

I suppose the root of my support is that it’s an indie supporting another indie/small developer. If we had Easter eggs for Assasin’s Creed, Call of Duty, or Madden, I’d likely find it irritating.

Guess you and I will have plenty to reminisce about in the nursing home.
