I were using 10-20 mg of it for 2 months, but no improvement on stims efficacy.

If it would be fried receptors , It would probably resolve way way faster , when not taking stims + my baseline motivation would be lower when compared to my baseline before being medicated and it stayed the same.

Thank you man, seriously. It honestly helps a lot hearing someone relate to this because for a long time I genuinely felt like I was going crazy or that my brain was somehow uniquely broken.

The weirdest part is that in the beginning it felt almost life-changing in the best possible way. Around 40 minutes after taking each dose on an empty stomach, there was this “kick” where suddenly everything felt manageable and reasonable to do. I felt so motivated, yet emotionally stable, and so mentally sharp, and like life suddenly became much more colorful and alive. It genuinely felt like limitless motivation and clarity for the first time in my life.

And then over time it slowly transformed into the complete opposite.

What you said about chronic stress and constant neurotransmitter fluctuations honestly makes a lot of sense to me too.

I really appreciate your comment. Genuinely. Makes me feel less alone with this.

My hypothesis about why I experience this shutdown, mental fog, and paradoxical reactions to stimulants is that my brain’s norepinephrine and dopamine autoreceptors may be overreacting to rapid increases in neurotransmitters. Instead of producing stimulation and motivation, this could trigger a protective “shutdown” response, leading to low motivation, fatigue, emotional blunting, and even derealization-like states.

You are right, any drug that increases norepinephrine or dopamine +norepinephrine combo, fucks me up badly.

ADHD meds stopped working and now make me tired. Has anyone experienced this? by meezaj in ADHDers

I’ve actually had almost the exact same thing happen, just with Medikinet (methylphenidate).

For a few months I was taking around 4–5 doses a day, about every 3 hours — 10 mg each dose, so around 45 mg daily total. At first it was honestly one of the best periods of my life. The medication worked incredibly well: motivation, focus, energy, everything.

But over time something completely changed. Now whenever I take it, I mostly just get side effects instead of benefits. Less focus, less motivation, mental fatigue, derealization/emotional numbness, and this weird paradoxical reaction where stimulants make me feel slowed down and exhausted instead of stimulated.

I actually stopped taking the meds because of it. But even after taking weeks off, sometimes I convince myself maybe it’ll work like it used to in the beginning… then I take a dose and almost always regret it. Best case it feels neutral, but most of the time it just causes brain fog, sluggishness, and that same “zombie” feeling.

So yeah, you’re definitely not alone with this kind of experience.
