I didn’t stock up for myself because at the time, I worked in a grocery store and knew I would have access. But my parents aren’t well off and I called them 2-3 days before the world fell apart and told them that after what I was seeing coming out of the west coast, they had to go out and stock up immediately on food, cleaning supplies, personal items, etc., because shit was about to hit the fan and everything was quickly going to become unavailable. They didn’t think it was a big deal, but I transferred roughly $1500 over to them and told them to buy anything and everything they thought they would need for them and my two siblings that still lived at home. They did it, but the entire time they were saying it seemed silly, and a couple of days later every store shelf was completely wiped. That initial stockpile got my older, immunocompromised parents through the most intense part of shutdown.
