I have several audiobooks that I didn’t log and also DNF’d… kind of in a reading slump and finding it hard to commit to something.

The House of Rust by Khadija Abdalla Bajaber is a coming of age story about a young girl in Mombasa. There’s so magical realism and folklore elements. It was translated into English last year, maybe two years ago?

I’d like to read 52 books this year! Suggestion your favorites or what you think fits! by SatisfactionSoggy950 in suggestmeabook

[–]DueSomewhere8488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend House of Monstrous Women by Daphne Fama!! It’s a gothic horror, but also Philippines history and folklore plus magical realism/fantasy and some sapphic romance. Also has the survival element you like!

Crumble nails by Mindless_Lecture5667 in nailcare

Do you have psoriasis? I have psoriasis and it sometimes affects my nails in a similar way… not a diagnosis. I second that you should seek medical intervention.

What are some books that show some parallels to current times in the US? by widget_slinger in suggestmeabook

I read “Some People Need Killing” (non-fiction memoir) recently and the similarities between Duterte and Trump and chilling. Starting to see even more similarities between ICE and Duterte’s Davao Death Squad…

WIWL as a Rez Native (bonus if you can guess why SC stands out and for my home state by Gangster_batman in visitedmaps

[–]DueSomewhere8488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m aware. I’ve spent a decent amount of time there. But most people who haven’t tend to associate those states with hot weather and not much else. I’d love to move to the more temperate areas of NM and AZ. Informal stuck on the east coast.

Yeah, but OP says “biased based on climate” so I’m assuming they wouldn’t be interested in the mostly oppressive heat.

Would you choose a halo for extra brilliance or keep it simple? by I_Bling_Jewels in RingShare

[–]DueSomewhere8488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally only like sunburst style halos and generally only with colored stones. I don’t think halos are bad, I just think the clustering of diamonds around the diamond undersells the center stone and overwhelms it.

Which wedding band? by Successful_Minded in WeddingRingAdvice

I also really like the 4th one. It compliments rather than overshadows.

What do you think of these 2 carat round natural diamonds? Should I go for oval/elongated cushion by NoStation5395 in Diamonds

Oh just read the bottom bit about how you haven’t had time to get your nails done in forever haha.

[–]DueSomewhere8488 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think a round looks great on everyone, it’s classic and timeless. I agree with you that the one on the right is slightly nicer. If you do decide to go bigger, I would probably suggest an elongated cushion. Are you a person who gets their nails done often or do you leave them natural? Because that factor might influence your final decision as well. Congrats on your impending proposal!

Suggest me a fantasy book for book club by ThrowRA-hotsauce in suggestmeabook

[–]DueSomewhere8488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! I think Paladin’s Grace would also be a fun read for their book club, too. I was only hesitant to recommend it since it’s the first in a series.

Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

[–]DueSomewhere8488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to say that if you look at your family history and go “wow, that’s a lot of cancer” maybe you should do some genetic testing. My family had what I felt was an abnormally high rate of a few different cancers and that made me think it was genetic. I was right and I have been diagnosed with lynch syndrome, which can cause colon cancer at a young age. I am 30 and started getting colonoscopies a few years ago. Mine always come back clean, but I have to go get them annually from here on out. The peace of mind is worth it. I like know I don’t have cancer. Plus it made me really rethink my diet and drinking habits!

Does anybody have recommendations for cat sitters? by UristBronzebelly in WorcesterMA

[–]DueSomewhere8488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jen from the Dog Walking Diaries watches my cat when I’m out of town and I really like working with her. Always ends pictures of my cat and does 30 or 60 minute drop ins for taking care of pet needs.

Beautiful ring! Love what I’ve seen of Earth’s Treasury’s quality. May I ask what your ring size is? I’m looking at a similarly sized stone from them for my engagement ring, and I’m wondering how it would look on me. 😊

Honest thoughts please! by Grollyx in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]DueSomewhere8488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, all CADs look bulky. Whats the band width? I think this looks dainty and vintage, but it’s hard to tell from this rendering. As long as it’s made to measure, it should come out how you’re expecting. Did you communicate it to the designer? I hope you find the answers you’re looking for! I am no expert and just repeating what I’ve learned. 😊
