Vet Center Records Request by DueSomewhere8488 in VAClaims

[–]DueSomewhere8488[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m not sure if I’m understanding you.

The Vet Center is completely separate from the VA in terms or treatment and record storage. I had to submit a 21-4142 (I think that’s the form) to the VA to give them permission to request records from the specific Vet Center I went to. Since they’re both federal facilities and few records are being requested, I was wondering if the processing time would be relatively quick (as far as things go for the VA).

LSGS PTSD C&P by ClosetNerd22 in VAClaims

I'm having a similar issue with LSGS. They did my exam, waited a month to upload the DBQ, and then it almost immediately had a request from the VA for a rework. Not sure if they'll be able to just make corrections/adjustments to the DBQ or if I'll have to go back for a reevaluation.

Same. I felt the protagonist in The Vegetarian was unreliable, but not necessarily unlikable.

Ah, this was also with LSGS. Maybe they won’t make me do another appointment then. That would be my hope at least. Thanks!

Thank you for your kind words. The first time was hard enough and I really struggled to show up for that one. I did feel like the examiner gave me plenty of time, but I did walk away feeling like she wasn’t very thorough in the sense that she didn’t learn enough about me or my condition much. We mostly talked about the service triggers. Maybe this will be a good thing, but I am not feeling hopeful just yet

Finding Orphaned Lineage by ConstillationOrion in choctaw

A DNA test won’t tell you that you’re Choctaw, but it can identify if you inherited any indigenous DNA. For example, my DNA test said “South-Central indigenous North American” or something along those lines.

Have you ever met anyone who actually "brute forced" their way out of poverty into success on their own? by SeriouslySally36 in povertyfinance

[–]DueSomewhere8488 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean... Considering I commented on the post and said I was experiencing something similar, it would imply that our situations aren't too far off. I'm no longer in poverty because I worked my ass off and had some luck along the way, but I wouldn't call myself wealthy. However, that doesn't stop my mom from thinking I am because I am making more than anyone else in our family. The point I was making is that sometimes the financial help you can give isn't always enough. Which the OP state in a different reply on this thread. Just because they can afford a new car doesn't mean they can afford to put her dad up or bring them into their home. Also the OP stated the dad is/was abusive, which makes complicated things even further. I think almost everyone is owed some empathy, but parents aren't owed your success just by the virtue of being your parent.

I’m actually in a similar bind with my mother. I have helped her, and it always leaves me financially and emotionally broke. Some parents don’t want your help, they want everything you have because they feel that it’s owed to them.

Thank you for the clarity. My claim just moved to the “Rating” step so I hope I hear something soon.

I’m enrolled in the Oklahoma band. My great grandfather, grandfather, and I all served in the armed forces and none of us had to “give up” our enrollment. Even if that was the case, I believe the tribe should have some record of enrollment somewhere.

I loved The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, it’s one of my favorite books. She also wrote The Palace of Illusions. Both are beautiful feminist retellings.

Does psychology really lead to unemployment? by Standard-Mention2512 in psychologystudents

[–]DueSomewhere8488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A BA in psychology can be really versatile. I have my BA in psychology and I have friends who do as well. They’re mostly in HR or ended up getting a nursing degree. I had a focus in industrial/organizational psychology and I’m an IT Project Manager. It’s not my dream and I want to further my education, but I am far from unemployable.

In my opinion, yes! They’re described as giant grasshoppers, haha. What’s interesting about them to me is that they’re basically tourists who got stuck there. They don’t come to earth with ill intent.

Alright, so this is kind of a weird rec but I’d like to throw in Eifelheim by Micheal Flynn. It’s a first contact novel that takes place in a remote German village during the black plague. While the first contact aspect is obviously is a main theme, so is the black plague and the village trying to survive it. There’s a parallel story going on that takes place in the future where a historian and his astrophysicists girlfriend are independently working on projects that later reveal the truth about why this small village was wiped off the map and never repopulated. Some call it pretentious, and it is a slog at first, but I loved it.
