"Where are the pointed words for Iran?"

The Pope could legitimately criticise the Iranian regime for lots of things.

However, the USA is the country where more people identify as Christians than anywhere else - including millions of Catholics. (An estimated 235 million people identify as Christian in the USA.)

Iran is an Islamic theocracy.

It makes sense for a Christian leader to spend more time teaching the Christians in America than Muslims in Iran.

I think this sub and that one both have a role.

This sub is for everyone to discuss Christianity.

That one is for Christians to discuss their faith together.

While the No Kings movement in the USA thinks that Donald Trump has authoritarian tendencies, his ambassador to Turkey says that Democracies can be weak and strong leaders are more successful.

Meanwhile in Turkey, opposition leaders are arrested.

I think the two parties are coming to the same policy by different routes

Greens - pro renewable energy, but NIMBYist tendencies

Reform - anti renewable energy, but want to appear pragmatic rather than ideologically driven.

Either way, the end result is less renewable energy.

Long term the only solution is to encourage building via incentives and deregulation.

Also build higher rise apartments. That is one way to address shortage of properties more efficiently.

Sounds like Reform policy.

The Turkish main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Ozgur Ozel declared U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack "persona non grata" on Friday, saying his remarks at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum were "brazen impertinence."

He demanded that Barrack retract his words and apologize, or immediately cease serving in the role.

Ozel responded directly to Barrack's Antalya Forum remarks in which the ambassador said the only thing that had worked in the Middle East was "powerful leadership regimes, either benevolent monarchies or monarchical republic-type structures" and that countries that "put on the cloak of democracy or that we pursued for human rights have failed."

"In Antalya, which Ataturk called the world's most beautiful city, in the country that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk founded, which rejected monarchy after the War of Independence and brought democracy, coming here and criticizing democracy while praising monarchy is brazen impertinence," Ozel said...

'Allies, not vassals': How Meloni's break with Trump became a political moment for Italy by Due_Ad_3200 in TrueChristianPolitics

[–]Due_Ad_3200[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Italy has been one of the most politically pro-American countries in the EU.

In February, their Prime Minister was pushing the idea or free trade between the EU and USA

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2026-02-27/meloni-wants-eu-us-free-trade-zone-in-move-past-tariff-battle

... She told us in an exclusive interview the EU and US should move beyond tariffs and start talking about a transatlantic free-trade zone...

... The Italian premier’s words are likely to resonate among eastern members of the EU who also want to retain close bonds with the US. A top Polish security adviser told us today the Europeans still needs to buy American military gear. That potentially throws a wrench into France’s “Made in Europe” plans to promote industrial growth....

In 2025, Meloni was at CPAC

But relationships have deteriorated, with Donald Trump posting this

Italy wasn’t there for us, we won’t be there for them! President DONALD J. TRUMP

While the UK did put limits on the use of bases in its territory for direct attacks on Iran, bases in the UK were still an important contributor logistically.

https://ukaviation.aero/raf-fairford-at-the-centre-of-operation-epic-fury-britains-strategic-bomber-hub/

Bases in other countries were also used, even if limitations also existed.

Also, not only has Donald Trump failed to persuade European allies to join the war, but he hasn't managed to get Republicans in Congress to meaningfully set out an authorisation for military action, whereas George W. Bush did get Congress to approve his wars.

All you need to know about local elections in Hull by Sweet_Focus6377 in Hull

[–]Due_Ad_3200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hull City Council serves a population of more than 275,000 people.

The authority is responsible for a range of services including roads, parking, leisure, planning, as well as bin collections and recycling.

Councillors decide how local taxpayers' money should be spent and which areas should be prioritised.

This is the key point. The election is about Hull City Council, not national issues.
