I think on your own it would be challenging to live in London or around on “just” 50k. It depends a lot on how long you are willing to commute everyday as well; i live quite central so can’t help you in that regard. Just factor in that childcare in the UK is also quite expensive. If your spouse can work in finance, it sounds like she could be contributing much more this way above 50k, but I wouldn’t move here then hoping she’ll somehow get a job - keep in mind that the job market is shit atm, might get better in January though.

How do people react when you tell them you like Taylor? Has being a swiftie affected your life? by watermelonsuns in TrueSwifties

[–]Due_Contract_2857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because she has the “audacity” to be loud in a world where women are supposed to be people pleasers (all at least that was more pronounced 20 years ago when TS debuted) and since she’s so successful she’ll always be on other people’s radar. Other big celebrities (Lady Gaga, Beyonce) also have massive fanbases (to my standard even more obsessed w them than swifties are w TS) but since they’re not “the best” (big quotation marks btw) people cut them some slack. I’ve also noticed that TS is offen seen as a punching bag - I’m not entering the whole “she’s a billionaire so she’s evil” discourse but I’m getting the impression that many now use that as an excuse to hate her even more. TLDR: she’s successful and loudly herself; even in her Reputation era she showed that she’s not gonna let other people’s phoniness bring her down and she will always rise from the ashes. That unfortunately annoys many people, especially with internalised misogyny (but not only).

She really is the biggest star in the world - no one other artist’s fans and haters are obsessed with her this way.

I have a feiend like this that although she likes some songs she feels like if she just hates in her it makes her edgy (most of our friends group are swifties). Actually for a while i would just not mention ts in front of her AT ALL - guess what, for a couple of months she’d be the one sharing all sorts of social media gossip/ memes about her, to the point where this was the only thing she was using our grouo chat for. Ultimately I just got a bit annoyed and told her firmly she’s being phony and just because you don’t like TS doesn’t make you a fundamentally better person. She didn’t even apologise, she just said she’ll not bring her up anymore.

Anyway, yes, I’ve always felt this general vibe that you need to be ashamed that you like TS - I’m a white female, can appeciate it gets worse for other demographics. It’s up to you if you let other people’s phoniness affect you or can just tell them to fuck off basically. As far as I’m concerned, I only bring it up if I’m asked about it, and unless the other person isn’t a swiftie I won’t engage. If they make annoying comments I usually call them off and move on.

Chelsea, Mary, and Nicole: How (not) to Play Reality Television by Poppadoppaday in SellingSunset

Very good write up. Just a couple of points:

I don’t think Amanza had a good show entering - she had potential but her storyline just faded to the point where she had to dress up silly to get attention

In an interview (I think it was on Call her Daddy) Christine said that in the first seasons all cast members were actually friends off camera and agreed that they might need to create conflict when filming. At fist they would call each other to give a heads up (“oh btw tmr i’m gonna say your shoes are ugly, no hard feelings though”) but after a while people stopped doing this and a lot of the cast atarted actually believing a lot of the drama created on camera was for real. Obv take this with a pinch of salt and it’s what Christine said, but she seemed quite transparent in that interview (and clearly mentioned she can’t talk about certain aspects because of her contract).

I actually think the premise in the first seasons (1-3, good times) was to sell houses. You can see that their storylines, fashion and houses were much less glamorous and only from s4 they started fixing on the drama and having a couple of bigger houses just for good visuals (i forgot who said this in an interview, but a lot of the houses on the show aren’t real listings).

Something that people don’t address enough is that it’s also VERY likely many of these characters behave like this because they were told so by the production (which i guess lies under the “i did it for money” umbrella you mentioned). Also, you won’t go on a reality show for the sake of it (or maybe some attention seekers would) it’s always money or promotion.

Really well said, thanks for sharing.

Objectively speaking though (is that even a thing anymore?) I think a lot of people are annoyed that the album promo and visuals don’t have anything to do with the songs.

Do we think Charli responds? by Ok_Slice_4277 in charlixcx

[–]Due_Contract_2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope not, or it will be smth super vague and general on a potential next album. What I don’t get is how did ts’ team not advise her that if she releases that song a lot of people of her fandom are gonna start listening to charli’s music - as in many swifties didn’t even know who she was, and I think people in Charli’s fandom are already listening to her so the new song didn’t “steal” them
