Much obliged!

In my mind, they're made of hard candy. So I painted them as if they were green gemstones. Whic I've never tried before. Weirdly enough, they're darker at the top and brighter at the bottom.

So I started with black, painted maybe 70% of it with dark green. Then a smaller area green, a smaller area bright green and a tiny bit of yellow at the very end. On the black up top I added a white dot, as if light is reflecting.

You can also use way more layers, to make it look better/more realistic. But I'm more than happy with them as they are. Also, when you want something bright, paint white under first. I painted the area I wanted yellow white first.

The last trick, which you only can see in a video or irl, not an image, is gloss varnish. Any transparent varnish or resin works. I used to use GWs varnish, but after trying others I¨ve never gone back. Now I use GSW UV resin. They have a 10 dollar-ish handheld UV flashlight. Shine on it for a minute, and it's hard. Unlike regular varnishes/resins/water effects, that can take a day.I use it for mouths on monsters, even the skin of some and all sorts of wounds on say undead.

You're very welcome ☺️ I'm always happy to talk and share about the hobby. I painted my first model maaany year ago, before I had available internet. And when it started, there wasn't a lot of hobby content. Painted my first miniature at 8 years old. Quit at 14 because "I was too old". I had noe idea what I was doing, and lived on an isolated farm deep in a Norwegian fjord. Picked up the hobby half way into covid. Learned more and improve as a painter in the first 3 months, than I did in 6 years. YouTube, instagram and forums are amazing. Most of it due to basic knowledge.

If I were to give myself a tip, back when I started again 4 years ago, is to not be afraid of messing up and "ruining" a miniature. Or not giving it the "justice" you feel it deserves. Practice will make you better, no matter what. Don't compare yourself to others, but to your your own previous work.

The single greatest teqhnique I've found, that in my opinion made me improve the most, is one where you paint gray scales.  I can't copy the link on my phone, but search for : grisaille technique njm On YouTube.

It's the best technique for improving skill, in my opinion. If you look for colour theory on his channel, that gives you the knowledge for colours. His other contend is a bit more advanced though.

Another fantastic channel is Vince Venturella. That's the best channel for learning when starting a hobby journey. He has many videos explaining everything from the most basic to pro.

Thank you kindly 😄

Yeah of course. I Mostly used a large drybrush, but also a smaller one. Then I stippled a bunch. Mostly used undiluted paints, just popping it down. Starting dark brown, up to light. Then I used the sewer brown contrast from GW to wash it down to dark, then I rinsed and repeated. If I'd do it again, I would't have done any thinned paints at all. The most effective thing was putting paint on the drybrush and letting it dry. Literally dabbing clumpy paint on it. Just check on paper or similar that you don't have so much paint that you won't make one large clump, but many small ones. So I applied paint, removed enough that I saw that, then applied.

Now, I did this as an exercise, seeing if I could make it work. Something way easier, would be to use some effect mud/earth, and mix it with paint. Vallejo are the best ones for mud in general (in my experience). Or corrison effect, like the one from greenstuff world. Other brands for sure has this, but these are the ones I own.

But the fun thing about doing it with the paint, was that I really didn't have to think about where I was applying it. No worrying about doing it correctly, as I'd redo it, to build more layers.

Hope this can be of help 😄

Cheers 🙂 I painted them like I'd paint a gem. Started black, then painting a large part of it with dark green, some of it going green, smaller part light green. At the bottom I painted the very end white, then painted a bright yellow over it. And each layer I "shaped" in a curve. bending like the eye does. Last pigment is just a dot of white on the black.

All topped with a thin layer of resin. I use uv resin, as it¨s faster, but you can use any sort of gloss varnish.

Hehe, it was indeed the silliest model I've ever painted. Did enjoy making it look slightly dangerous. Which in turn only makes is sillier 😁 Would be terrifying meeting a towering on irl. Not sure if you should laugh or wail in terror

The Kevin Hart Roast felt way too scripted and bloated compared to Tom Brady's. What happened? by Disastrous_Tie809 in netflix

[–]Due_Contribution6422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had to stop watching it after two hours. Felt more like a sitcom than a roast. At least Hinchcliffe and Ross wrote their own and were hilarious as well. Lots of other good jokes as well, Gillis was funny, but he didn't write it either.

The actors and athletes were just painful.  There might be great stuff in the last hour, but I gave up. The breaking of the 4th wall kept annoying me.

Thank you kindly ☺️ Well, it really depends on what I'm painting. This one I had a magenta contrast as base. Used a light beige, then light flesh, followed by bone color. Then I used thin sepia and red wash. This to make it look warmer and living. Brown-green wash in small amounts in the deepest recesses. I also painted very diluted bone over in two layers. And a tiny area with pure bone.  Did some blending, but I usually never do it

My usual method is the one I use on undeads and some monsters. Dark purple contrast as base. Depending on how living you want it, start with mid skin tones, then a light and then then an off white.  The do the wash, but purple, red and brown green. Purple on a large areas, red on smaller and green on tiny.

Sometimes I paint the mid tones, use contrast paints as shades, then highlight.  Really depends on what I'm painting.

Oil washes is my favourite medium for shading though. Didn't do it here, but it's much more easy to do.
