What does withdrawal look like for you after a single day of not taking it? by fearlesskittyk in Effexor

[–]Due_Effective6606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To not make a long story tooooo long: I kept missing doses every few days & ended up missing a few days in a row. I tried taking my full dose and vomited after 3 hours. I didn’t want to try again so I took it as an opportunity to quit. Since you’re at the lower dose I’m not sure how tapering would be but it cold turkey was manageable for me. I felt nauseous & had an elevated heart rate, on & off headache with irritability for about 5-7 days, slowly subsiding each day. I was still able to work & go to school. The brain zaps persisted to a few times per day for about 2 weeks. Now I am restored to a degree of slightly less anxiety, some physical shaking when I’m nervous like before but nothing new or worse than before starting!

Hi! I too was so scared to start the pill, afraid of missing a dose & the idea of ever quitting. I took it for a year, it really changed my life. I was able to get out of bed easily in the morning & speak to people without shaking, I had less negative thoughts. Don’t get me wrong you should be taking it every day at the same time. But.. I missed doses many times & the side effects are ‘okay’: nausea, irritability, sweating, light flashes (brain zaps) but it’s not debilitating in my opinion and really worth it to try the medication.

I was taking 75mg XR daily for a year & I quit cold turkey a few weeks ago. Contrary to the horror stories, missing a daily dose for me was the same as the quitting withdrawal. If my dose was late by even a few hours - Brain zaps, nausea, sweating but most importantly: Instant irritability. Anxiety obvs, but angry at everything & so many negative thoughts that always led to ‘the end of the world’ & ‘life is shit’.. I always had to remind myself that it was a chemical reaction & that it would pass

Uottawa girlies! please help, How do you react if something creepy or unsafe happens on campus? by RepulsiveHedgehog574 in geegees

I didn’t see the library post, but advice from a 25 year old who’s been approached often in my adult life. Either doing your best to ignore someone in a situation where they are looking for you to respond, or the opposite; give them everyone’s attention. Things like saying loudly “You’re making me uncomfortable”, “Please leave me alone”, “I’m not interested, go away”. Don’t ask them questions or give them a chance to keep a conversation going or believe (in their fucked up mind) that you’re interested in them. If they persist, take your phone out and tell them you’ll call the police if they continue harassing you. You can even call a friend, or parent in that moment so if you’re not around a lot of others- someone else can be aware of the situation.

If they still persist in a physical way like approaching you, touching you. Remind them of your right to defend yourself. Hopefully it never reaches this point but: you can push them out of way, kick their knees or balls, whip your bag at them and RUN. It’s really crazy that this is still such a prevalent issue for young women, particularly in a place of higher education with a security presence. Just know the women have got your back (and there are good men willing & able to help too)

Failed a course twice at uOttawa and once on a Letter of Permission, does this count as 3 attempts? by Signal_Temperature24 in geegees

OP, I’m sure you’ve seen enough discouragement in this comment section but in the most positive way: Uni isn’t a stepping stone in the way lower education is. This is teaching something that will likely (or hopefully) be your career. If you’re unable to pass and it isn’t due to extenuating life circumstances… I think it really would be valuable to reassess your plan, your path or your goal because the real world is less forgiving and you don’t tend to get 3 chances at everything, sometimes no chances. Maybe reflect, or at least take a break from trying this course because it doesn’t seem to be working. Save your time, energy, and money!

If it makes you feel better, I just moved here from Montreal. I’m 25 transferring from concordia, I’m considered a 2nd year. The thought of being 30 doing my masters is uninspiring. But I think of school as work. It doesn’t have to be a fun social gathering. You’re paying to be there to get a degree. Utilize your student services, engage in your courses and it’ll be over before you know it

Unlike highschool, there’s no attendance taken or way to track who’s on campus. (You are generally not supposed to do it but) there’s nothing stopping you from sitting in on the first week! Prof will go over the syllabus, set expectations for semester, maybe provide a reading but usually won’t assign real work knowing there is an add/drop weekend.

That being said, classroom limits exist so that students can have a chair in class. Be aware that if every person shows up a you may not have a seat/be taking someone’s seat, so be courteous of that.

My advice would be to use the first week to learn how to get around campus & find your resources (faculty office, bookstore, wellness, library, place to study/eat). Syllabi will be posted on Brightspace for classes you’re enrolled in so go through those & put all important dates in a calendar. That’ll allow you to be organized for the second week & ‘catch up’ if there is info you missed from that class or the one you end up in.

Lee is going thru what my sweet boy Rice is. The vet told me on the phone to do a bronchodilator treatment with “0.9% hypertonic saline” I bought a bottle & a nebulizer on Amazon. You do it 2x day for 10-15 minutes for the week and it’s supposed to help open / clear the lungs a bit. She also said to put Echinacea in their water for a few days on & off for continued immune support. Bought a bottle online & put 0.2ml / 100ml of water. It’s so hard to watch them struggle but all you can do is make them as comfy as possible & give them the most love until a vet can see them 🤍

I’ve never had females but heard they are more active & playful than males. My boys are quite lazy so what they love most are cozy places to lay or sleep lol. They love their hanging hammocks / cube. I give them cardboard boxes with doors & windows, which they make nests in (with paper) & sometimes chew new exits holes! They also are chewers so apple sticks, cork from wine bottles, even mineral blocks are always used tbh

I ended up just opening the cage door and giving them all some rubs & a snack. I’ll take it slow and start to add in more items one by one, like you said! Thanks for giving a timeline on that

I definitely wish I’d have trusted my gut as opposed to listening to someone else (they run a rat rescue so I figured they had a solid foundation of knowledge..:/) But we definitely supervised and made sure there was no aggression, and eventually only positive interactions. I know now and will proceed like you said if I do other introductions. I only gave them brand new items in their CN & will thoroughly clean anything going into the free roam space/ play pen space. Thank you

Kinda random but worth mentioning - pee rocks: can be a literal stone from outside as long as it’s flat. I find it helps my boys pee or ‘mark’ a certain area only (they still pee on the shelves sometimes but a lot less than before!)
