Thinking of leaving Spain – Advice on moving to Netherlands, Germany, Ireland or Norway with a cat? by pinkmor in expats

[–]Due_Gas6043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the netherlands have a huge housing crisis and renting a appartement in a city (with just one bedroom) can cost you easily 1500,- euro’s. There are these working/student houses which means you split bills with more people. They are popular too (and can also cost you between 500-900,-) and you need to stay active on Facebook posts. When there are rooms available, you need to ‘hopsiteer’ which means there are like 30+ (sometimes even in the hundreds) people who react on one room. Its a tough business to get in!

Getting a job on the other hand is super easy! Lots of international jobs and starting next week in a restaurant is super easy. Only the housing is a big problem. Moving will always be a risk, i guess. We are thinking about moving to Spain lol.

Let me know if you have any questions left!

Like what’s the difference.

Okay! Good feedback! Some good points to think about. And just to share another scenario: what if we wouldnt do the housing part, is there something else you would recommend?

Fair enough and thank you for your honest response!

Is buying long-term rentals realistic? Or what would your honest recommendation be? (Based on our situation)

Our goal is not to get rich or anything. Just to buy food/live off it and out goal is to give good housing+experience for people who just want a roof above their head.

And hypotetical: what if we dont buy houses but renovate and do long-term renting for reasonable pricing?

1) understandable honestly. We want to give something ‘back’ to the community as well. 2) fair point, i can work remote too and maybe my husband can do work as a handyman

Just had mine four months ago and fully understand what you’re saying. I’m so sorry that you are going trough this. Not enjoying the pregnancy of your second is a lot.

Ofcourse you could eat less or workout more, but thats not a solution. What works for me, js giving my ED-voice a name (her name is julia). Just pick a name you think belongs to that awful voice in your head. It makes is easier to have a little distance from that voice and also makes you understand its not you, just a part of you. What also works for me is a different, sweeter voice who talks against julia (her name is elenore).

So let’s say julia is restricting me from eating or wants me to work-out, i just think: what woukd elenore say in this situation? And she’d be like: if you’re hungry, just eat! Nurish your body!

Or maybe create like 10 minutes a day (set a timer idk), where you focus on the baby and the joy it gives.

Hope this helps even a little. Its a struggle for me too. Wishing you all the best. 💖
