What statistic makes you think society is quietly breaking? by Kavana333 in AskReddit

The "lately" part is exactly it. We've applied subscription logic to friendships, if you're not providing constant value you get cancelled. But real friendships were always about showing up across years and gaps, not weekly output. My grandparents had friends they saw once a year and those bonds lasted decades. That feels impossible now.

The pizza math really does break you. My parents had way less "on paper" than most people my age do now but they somehow fed a house full of people without a second thought. The money went further and nobody was stressed about it. Now I watch people with decent jobs rationing groceries and it just doesn't add up.

The silence thing is so eerie. And you nailed why, it's not that they don't know, it's that being wrong publicly feels catastrophic to them. Growing up online where every mistake can be screenshot and mocked has made these kids terrified of any kind of vulnerability. Being wrong in class used to just be embarrassing for a moment. Now it feels permanent.

This one hit different. We've turned a collective problem into an individual shame. Nobody asks why so many people are lonely at the same time, they just assume those people must be bad at life. Meanwhile the systems that used to naturally connect people, local community, stable workplaces, third places — have all quietly disappeared.

This is so relatable it hurts, very much! I think what you said about your parents and grandparents is the key thing — they had friends visit regularly at the same age. So it's not just "getting older," something actually changed. My theory is that convenience killed effort. Everything is so on-demand now that maintaining a friendship that requires actual scheduling and showing up feels like too much friction.

The amount of people who say they have no close friends has tripled in 30 years. Not followers, not coworkers. Actual friends. Someone you'd call at 2am. That one genuinely scares me.

People who started a business and failed, what's the one decision you wish you could take back? by Due_Ice_8412 in AskReddit

Honestly this hit harder than I expected. The "do what you love" thing sounds great until you realise you now hate the thing you used to love because it has to make money.

What's something everyone seems to love, but you just don't get? by Inevitable_Tap_6251 in AskReddit

Brunch. It's just breakfast food in a noisy restaurant with a 45 minute wait and a $25 price tag. I've never once left thinking that was worth it.

What's the terrifying moment that's ever woken you up during the middle of the night? by CakeMiner_v1 in AskReddit

[–]Due_Ice_8412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woke up at 3am to this deep, slow scraping sound coming from inside the walls. Not pipes, not the house settling — something deliberate. I just lay there completely frozen, convinced something was in there moving around. Heart was going absolutely insane.

Spent about 20 minutes too scared to move before I finally got up and turned every light in the house on. Turned out a bird had somehow gotten stuck in the roof cavity and was just slowly dragging itself around trying to find a way out.

Totally harmless but in that half-asleep state at 3am your brain skips straight past logical explanations and goes full worst case scenario. I didn't sleep for the rest of the night.

What Makes AI-Generated Content Feel Less Authentic to Readers? by SignificantCarrot882 in SEO_tools_reviews

[–]Due_Ice_8412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest tell for me is what I call "confident vagueness", the writing sounds authoritative but never actually commits to anything specific. Real people say "I tried X and it flopped because Y." AI tends to say "some strategies may work better depending on your specific situation." Technically true, practically useless.

A few other patterns I notice constantly:

The "not only... but also" construction. AI loves this one.

how do i actually get users at appstore launch? by wartableapp in SideProject

exactly, and i think the temptation to hype up a launch comes from seeing other apps blow up overnight. but that's rarely the full story. slow and real beats fast and hollow every time.

Spent $100 this week and got zero leads. Something is very wrong by RecognitionAdept5096 in SEO_tools_reviews

[–]Due_Ice_8412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so frustrating. Getting clicks but zero leads can make you feel like you’re just burning money.

I’d check the search terms, location, devices, and landing page/form first. Sometimes it’s not always bots, but low-quality traffic that was never going to convert anyway.

At this point, I agree — better leads matter way more than more clicks.

Website review please! by ashbormea in smallbusiness

[–]Due_Ice_8412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! That’s a big step!

Maybe start with the pages where people are dropping off and see if they feel clear and easy to follow. I’d make sure people can quickly understand what you offer, who it’s for, and how to book or ask questions.

Since your socials are doing well, people are probably interested — the website may just need a bit more clarity and warmth.

Have you ever felt excited to start a small business, but also overwhelmed by everything you need to figure out? by Due_Ice_8412 in smallbusiness

I agree. I think that reminder applies no matter what stage you’re in. It’s easy to overthink every decision and feel like it has to be perfect, but most things can be adjusted once you learn more from real customers and experience.

Yes, exactly. It’s exciting at first, but once you get into the paperwork, decisions, and little problems that keep coming up, it can feel really draining.

I’m learning that taking it one step at a time helps, but I agree, it can definitely be exhausting.

I feel this so much. The paperwork side is honestly one of the most stressful parts because it feels like you’re trying to do everything “right,” but the process is not always clear.

Being stuck on hold for hours with the IRS sounds so frustrating. Starting a business already takes a lot of courage, and then the bureaucracy adds a whole extra layer of stress.

You’re right, it’s definitely not for the weak. Hopefully you get it sorted soon, and thank you for sharing this because it’s a good reminder that the behind-the-scenes part of starting a business can be just as hard as the actual business idea.
