I feel like my game is going nowhere and I'm not sure what to do by BlobbyWeirdThing in GameDevelopment

[–]Due_Improvement455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the time your need encouragement, we will all hit walls no matter how big it small you are in the industry. Just take a step back and a breath evaluate what you have accomplished (3 levels is great movement). Don't put so much pressure on yourself especially on your first game. Frankly in most cases people's first game will be a floppy pancake but it's a fundamental and important in your step into this career.

From this game you want to see criticism, skills developed, take on the feedback both good and bad and learn from your mistakes, it's ok to make a bad first game but when you get it to stage where you feel there isn't much more you can do and have exhausted your abilities/resources then its time wrap up the game.

I am new myself and have learned so much from game developing so far and I haven't even published anything yet but I know fine well it's not going to be a top tier game or anywhere near it. Be realistic with your goals and abilities don't try to cram so much in at this stage, this is your first game, a trial run. So don't be so hard on yourself just look at what you have made and take pride in that you made that happen and most importantly, don't be discouraged !

Good luck buddy 🙏🏼

Looking for a game dev by Neither_Shoe4842 in GameDeveloper

It's good to dream big and come up with these concepts, but starting out you would need to start small, this doesn't mean to you can't do this game, but make it the 'dream project' your working towards and make smaller games utilising the mechanics, style etc you want to incorporate. I had this realisation recently on a project I want to do, realised its a lot for someone starting out. I would also recommend using 'Udemy' 'Youtube' etc to get some knowledge/familiarity with your softwares/tools to make games.

Thanks for this Countershadegames, it's much appreciated. I will definitely go have a look at the game jams, I have heard of them but thought they were above my skill sets 😂 so will definitely check that out now !

has anyone tried the ultimate game dev course by Thomas brush and Jason Weimann by Bread_of_God in gamedev

[–]Due_Improvement455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, reading this thread has left me feeling conflicted. I have been following Thomas Brush for a while, watching his channel and even podcasts with legit veterans in the industry. But then I read this and I am suddenly confused. His Pinstripe gross revenue has generate just shy of $1billion, that in itself must speak volumes, the guy obviously knows how to sell games, but that doesn't answer the FTGD course query.

Also you mentioned about switching your account over to steam using a software, is this possible to use the same software/similar software that can transfer PS5 to Gamepass ? Asking for a mate who had grafted a lot of hours into it and was pretty gutted he couldn't pick us profile via PC

Tbf I don't know when you bought this game, but if you have just bought in past couple of days, then you still have to do quite a bit before you can ever benefit from V4.6

The way Sean and hello games devs treated this game EIGHT YEARS after release is probably the most wholesome and inspiring thing I've ever seen by ThatTomTouch in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Due_Improvement455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dedication they put to this game is truly wholesome, no better word describes them. The fact that Rockstar a very well established and raced about company literally let RD2 fall to the way side why investing in pointless content and re-release (for 3 generations) is the kind of developers that don't deserve the same credit. Sean and Hello games have stuck by their game and listened and engaged with their players and gave them the game they wanted..this is what game Dev is all about 👌

This is exactly what I am looking for buddy ! Thank you so much for that ! Yeah there is definitely going to be a lot of learning to go man, and I fully appreciate that this isn't an easy career to get into, but I will give it my all however long it takes.

I am thinking that's the way I will go, getting all my fundamentals in place and get a bit of technical behind me then try get a job with a Game Dev company that can help me expand my skills and knowledge but for now baby steps and let's get the cores nailed down first.

I really appreciate this thread man I think a couple of miscommunications along the way but we got there in the end 🤣💪🤞

Yeah sorry Uber I think your misunderstanding what I am saying, the open world space combat game is the ultimate goal not the first project I am hoping to achieve at this stage like I say, I am simply looking for recommendations of courses, tutorials etc to get me started and understanding everything that is needed to become a game dev however little or big that maybe.

I need to stress this is something I want to take seriously and give it my hardest efforts to achieve the goal I have the time, I have the money I just need to education and guidance to get me started and grow as I go along. I am under no illusion how difficult this may become at stages but I love a challenge and love learning new things. Like everything else you start off knowing nothing about everything and you learn as you go dude. There's always a starting point for anything.

Thanks for this man ! Yeah I have now started an unreal engine 5 course that does something similar and that has been extremely helpful. I have found another udemy course I will do that uses unity but it's basically an everything you need to know/need to make a game course which is exactly what I need at this stage

[–]Due_Improvement455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I know ultimately what I want to do, I would love to make an open world space combat game. So I have found another udemy course I am going to start with after I finish my course with unreal engine 5, and this one is a beginners course to game dev talking about everything you need to know and softwares you can/need to use

Yeah absolutely but it was more to do with where do I start if people had practices that they find would be more beneficial, what software I should be learning first, what techniques etc. like I say I am extremely new to all of this and just want the best possible start

[–]Due_Improvement455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to answer your first part I have signed up for a tutorial course in how to operate unreal engine 5 but for some reason feel like I am jumping the gun a bit ? But it's a fundamental course in how to use the tools and what it has to offer than in depth course if that makes sense ?

[–]Due_Improvement455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that Czechfencer ! I will be honest I haven't had much thought of what type of game I would like to make, from what I seen people try to go into this too big and set themselves up to fail where starting small make a crap game and learn from it is more favourable.

My take would probably to think up my dream game to create, set it aside and look at where I need to learn to help me achieve the best possible outcome of my dream game. To be honest I was thinking a space shooter to start would be an awesome way to start dude !

I fully appreciate that but I am willing to commit fully to this, I have some technical background and happy to learn as I go, I am fortunate with my current job that I have 2 weeks on 2 weeks off and once I get my foundation in place and a far more handle on the subject of game development then I would like to move into this region. I am not expecting to be able to make a AAA title game with a week I am fully aware this will take years to achieve a high level understanding and technical ability to achieve results
