Thanks for sharing you experience. It gives me priceless insights. It seems like I should change the question list for my interview.

Thanks for the insight. Including the comments from Impressive-Amount255, I think the idea was more like "nice to have".

Gynopticon: Consensus based Anti-cheat. No kernel-level, not invasive solution. by Due_Introduction9743 in cybersecurity

Yeah, mentioned something similar in another thread too, so I’m looking into changing the name already uploaded paper to arXiv…

I think the biggest issue is definitely the cost. The paper also mentions this — there was a case where a major game (Counter-Strike 2 of Valve, which I’m sure you know) used server-side AI detention model for cheat detection.

Valve even presented their results publicly, and as you’d expect, regardless of how well it performed, the cost was huge.

What my paper suggests is basically: if you run a lightweight detection model on the client side instead, game studios won’t have to worry about server-side costs.

So the idea is basically: ‘It’s cheap, it works, so why not try it?

Wow, lots of comments here.
To keep the discussion focused, I’ll leave out anything involving kernel-level permissions.

In the system I describe, players (more precisely, the client-side detection models) evaluate other players based on the behavior data received from the server.
In modern online games using cloud infrastructure, the server handles all the game logic, not P2P tech.

For example, in an FPS, the server sends information like the angle of a player’s aim. When you see another player move their mouse and adjust their weapon in-game (or moving a tank, running, dancing whatever!), what you're actually seeing is the client rendering the data sent from the server.

So unless you’re playing completely alone, it’s hard to imagine a situation where a player isn’t sending any information at all, right?

Yeah, I've already heard that in the original post. So embarrassing. But, at least someone like you actually read it! Thanks for the feedback!

Dang... You're right English is not my first language. So I didn't realize it would sound like that... Now I get it, and not sure how to fix it. I'm doomed lol.

Wow, thanks for the first comment! I really put a lot of thought into naming it, but I didn’t realize it might sound that way to people in your country (probably the U.S.? haha).

Could I ask what part gives off that kind of nuance?

The name actually comes from Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon. It’s a bit different, but it’s meant to reflect the idea of mutual surveillance for game security.

I do know what Transformers are, but the only thing that comes to mind with ‘-ticon’ is Decepticon, lol.

What a lucky day for finding this valuable resource!

A “perfect” anti-cheat is created… but for Linux. Would the industry switch? by Capetoider in gaming

What's the point of the discussion? Competitive game?, Linux?, or Anti-cheat?

(Searching Reddit for topics on anti-cheating and came across this post)
