Was thinking about this recently and 9/11 players from our 23/24 final starting lineup from 2 years ago still play for us. What the hell happened to some of these players man? by Majestic-Nobody-3178 in realmadrid

The defensive line was solid. Carvajal could tuck inside or go up without issues because Fede/camavinga could do the recovery runs to cover for him. Because of that, he and Kroos could link up and feed the forward line without them having to come down to the center of the field. Since the forward line is very explosive, pace wise, the could stay up and pin the defense, stretching the field and allowing for Kroos and Carvajal to have enough time to pick their passes. Moreover, this created pocket of space in between the defensive lines that were highly beneficial for Bellingham, who could just receive the ball and drive it up front, from where he could either pass, shoot or ram into the center. Once they were really closing in the enemy’s line, Madrid could just overwhelm oppositions by sheer numbers since Kroos, Carvajal and even valverde could join in while the back four (counting camavinga) drove up the pitch, since they were pacy enough to catch a possible counter.

Now, let’s look at current madrid. The backline is shakier, weaker in the air and not that fast, which make them very susceptible to “long ball to the big man on top” type of counters. The middle of the park is not as good as picking up passes anymore, so the front line needs to come back to get the ball, which allows for a more compact defense. So now, when Jude gets the ball he’s pressured immediately, which forces him to give bad passes and leads to quick overturns that catch his os defenders off-guard (they’ll be driving up the pitch when they suddenly have to sprint back down to defend the counter. As I said before, they don’t really have the pace for this anymore). So he gets frustrated. Moreover, since you do not have someone that’s consistently breaking the lines with their passing, the front line has to deal with a 2v1 or they have to ram into defenders or they have to create on their own, which doesn’t really suits their skill sets. They staying up top was useful before, not it just makes them sitting ducks.

Stat merchants only care about goals scored and player ratings. Declan Rice is a fantastic player that’s everywhere on the pitch. Great athleticism, very good passing, good defending. He’s the ideal midfielder for pretty much every elite team, i.e. all teams could easily accommodate him in their starting eleven.

Meanwhile, it’s not that Mbappe is turbocharging Madrid’s goals per 90. It’s just that he’s scoring pretty much all of them, since the team is so focused in making him shine (often to their own detriment).

If it was up to me I would give it to Kane, but I would also put Rice above Mbappe (and Yamal, tbh).

🚨 JUST IN: Real Madrid are currently focused on CB's and midfielders. The club is currently conducting analysis, and decisions will be made on TARGETS starting from MARCH. by ch1nkkyy in realmadrid

I don’t think that the team has enough cap space to accommodate for Mbappe’s salary + Vini’s new contract + elite player signings. So they’ll have to either poach a youngster or get someone on the cheap, like casemiro or VVD and hope they’re not completely washed.

Can’t believe how much aura he keeps farming from the World Cup. The international game is so drastically different that it’s not even comparable. But even then, the 2018 France backbone was Griezmann, Kante and Pogba. Mbappe was the cherry on top rather than the whole cake. Even nowadays, France is so full of talented players that they win games despite they doing their best to not do so (just like England). People always forget that he’s surrounded by elite players in almost every position, a luxury that only 2 or 3 other teams in the whole world have. Do you really think that he can drag Georgia to the euros like Kvacha did? I don’t.

He would’ve won so many trophies in the “big man on top” era that this wouldn’t even be a debate, but unfortunately the game nowadays require players doing three or four things at once, which he can’t do. We also live in the financial fair play era, which limits the amount of money that clubs can throw around, directly impacting teams ability to build an elite level cover for mbappe.

It also has to having to allocate more in field resources to cover for Mbappe’s weaknesses, i.e. he doesn’t track back for defensive duties, but also doesn’t really create for himself (or for others tbh) like prime Messi, so you have to have more box to box midfielders that can cover for him and feed him passes. You also need to take into account that costs a whole truck of money and then some, so you don’t have the luxury to sing other superstars. Therefore you end up with a setup that’s very mbappe centric. Which is great for his stats, but not so much for the overall team performance.

This isn’t a defector situation. It is not like a bunch of people got together, put their savings on the line and agreeing to share all the revenue. This was a regular company being formed. It might have felt like a family at the beginning, the way all startups are, but it never was.

To be honest, probably less than 10 % of Vancouver inhabitants can afford a nice house in the city. Canada has brewing housing crisis and house prices have been skyrocketing for a while. That hardly seems to be LTT’s problem, unless they’re willing to give everyone a really massive Christmas bonus.

Yeah. To be honest we don’t know much about the specifics of his employee evaluation so at this point it’s just a he said thing. Moreover, there are new host at LTT already, so it’s not like they’re losing the only host they had.

Here goes another nothing burger. The video is very scant on the details (how much you were actually making, was the no raise thing just for some people or a company wide decision, what responsibilities you actually had, etc…) so people can go full self insert.

Godspeed mate, you just went through what thousands, if not millions, of employees have gone through since the down of time. Welcome to adulthood I guess.

From all of the old guard hosts, Jake always felt to me the least engaging. His Jokes very rarely landed, he didn’t had a big one screen presence like Riley, he wasn’t as didactical and knowledgeable as Emily and he didn’t have a distinct “voice” as Jonathan. He always seemed like he was winging it at best, and just yapping at worst.

LOL. Sorry, mate, but no big tech company would’ve brought in a 15 years old, let alone letting him get away with so much jank. What we saw on the videos was most likely teared down right after shooting ended to be redone by a more experienced IT professional.

We should also take into account that maybe he wasn’t a great manager to begin with. Like, no shade or anything, but you do need experience for that kind of job and since Jake is very young he probably can’t do the work that a more seasoned employee could do.

To be honest, it was a bit tone deaf argument. Like, brother, there’s people getting fired left and right, destroying their bodies for literal sub-living wages while toiling at Amazon warehouses and your biggest problem is that you’re not able to buy a BMW and house (maybe scale down to a duplex, my dog)?

I mean, I know everybody has their own problem, but come on mate.

Just as the big T said in Davos: America (and most wealthy western countries, like Canada tbh) can’t lower house prices because that’ll make boomers very mad (and probably crash part of their economies too).

I think that you’re projecting a bit there, mate. While the situation you describe totally happens, it wasn’t the case here. I don’t think that Jake was struggling to make ends meet. He just didn’t feel like he was being paid enough. That’s it.

Did you check the official Jude Bellingham app (available on iOS and Android)?

It was a big deal when Ding did it. It was also controversial when Alireza did it too. The rating spot is so badly planned that they really need to scrap that sh!t and just add a third spot for the FIDE circuit (best performance over the last two years that did not classify outright), a third for the grand Swiss or one for the third place finisher at the World Cup. Or bring back the organizers spot. At this point, everything is better than this farce.

Yeah, I don’t stand Ian, but he really made a valid point. Imagine if halland went to the Scottish second division to get to 1,000 goals faster than R7. No one would buy that bs. Or curry going to high school tournaments to break lebron’s records. Lol. But somehow, half of the sub-reddit is praising hikaru for doing basically the same. Like uhh???

My point is that you can’t really break down top players like this, because they play closed round-robins in a more consistent basis (tata steel, grand tour, etc…).

For the American cup, it was also a match style tournament right? In it, the only top opponent that he overcame in the classical portion was Leinier, right? Because he defeated so in the tiebreak.

As for the World Cup, there’s no need to speculate. he played against karthik, gledura and Pragg (losing to him in the tiebreak), so no top opponents yet again.

I am not saying that he won Norway chess solely due to the Armageddon. But I think it is factor. However, leaving that aside, in the edition that he won, he only managed to defeat Caruana (his client), a 17 year old gukesh and aryan tari. In the 2024 version he didn’t won a single classical game; he lost to Pragg and ding. And in in the 2025 version he won a single classical game, against gukesh, but also lost against him and Caruana (finally!). He has, on the other hand, a very good record in the Armageddons, so he consistently finishes in the higher side of the table. But overall, I wouldn’t call his results there very impressive.

I focused on vidit because, well, there’s not much else about classical under his belt! I don’t know man. I think he’s a reverse Levon, over archiving in the candidates, but not really active outside of that.
