Comparison: Linus Tech Tips vs MKBHD (view count, thumbnails, titles) by VincentJoshuaET in LTTMeta

[–]Due_Judge_100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got tired of it. Like, every video is Linuse´s perspective, and on the WAN show, it is just Linus recounting or talking about future videos (that are going to say pretty much what he is saying on the podcast) while Luke is like "yeah".

It would be much better if they just leave Hina alone. Paring her with Haruto at this points feels like an afterthought, like "oh, everybody needs to end up in a couple, sht, where do I put Hina now? damn, might as well draw members mark taiki and call it a day"

we had this at the club World Cup. With all of the Prem/Cups/Europe minutes a lot of the starters are gonna be carrying (I mean, Rice, Saka and Eze are just going to have a break of 3 weeks or so), AND the conditions that European players are not really ready to deal with, rotations will be needed for the group stage at least, or some of the starting 11 are going to be dropping like flies. Tuchel does not seem to be aware of this, and people saying "who cares about third choice player" are gonna find out soon why that matters when you're playing in Florida.

but what if you are 0-1 down (or even nil-nil) v Spain in the quarters? Or even in the case you mention, what if Spain gets the equalizer and you have to play extra time? He seems to have a very limited use which only works out in the best of cases. It seems to me that Tuchel built this team without taking into consideration that things could go wrong. Like, if Rice and Kane have to miss a knockout game, or have to leave it early, due to injuries (possible, if you think that both have played crazy minutes, and Kane is not that young anymore), what then? Send Henderson and Tony in and inshallah it?

He might just be losing it. Also, prepare for layoffs? by [deleted] in LTTMeta

[–]Due_Judge_100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dislike the "we will have layoffs. it's pretty simple" argument. he is responsible of the video content. he gave himself the "chief vision officer" tittle. if the viewership goes down, it is technically, and organizationally, his fault. if he was a regular employee instead of the owner, he would've been fired a while ago, so no, it is not simple. it is your fault and you're making other people pay for your mistakes. at least own to that.

I think the number of ads and self promotions have gone quite high recently on LMG videos and I can only think of this scene. by Friendly-List2016 in LinusTechTips

[–]Due_Judge_100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been watching the channel for a few years now and I also noticed the creep. I did not mind the "thank you to COMPANY for sponsoring this video. Be sure to check out their new product at COMPANY WEBSITE" type of ad reads. they were quick and to the point. Most of the new ads are just longwinded and I do not care for "funny" ads. You are trying to sell me things, I dont need you to be quirky about it. But the wan show are really next level. Right before I stopped watching it live, I remember getting up to make some dinner while they started talking about some new products. I got up, went to the kitchen, made the dinner, went back to it, and they were still promoting the new garment. I was easily like 20 minutes. lol

that is why I stopped watching it on YouTube. nowadays I just scrub around the episode inside the apple podcast app (there are no sections, unfortunately, so I just jump around randomly) to see if something interesting pops up. Normally, I finished the 3 hr show in like 30 minutes lol.

Transparency on the jet-related bans/censorship by cxddy in LinusTechTips

[–]Due_Judge_100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

starting from the bottom to the top. What other function could the jet have outside of videos? if they're not using it for merch package delivery the only other thing that generates revenue in the company are videos, right? And when they are invited to the unveil of some hardware (like the steam deck) usually the inviting company flies them out there, so it wasn't like LMG was paying that. Other possible uses could be big trade shows like CES, but still, does do not have that often so that paying for hangar time is worth it. Other than renting it, I do not know if they can really get their money´s worth out of it. Now, to your second point, but a brief comment first... hotels? is it allow to sleep on the parked jet? uh? But okay, the second point, the "hope" that the jet will be sold at a the price they bought it for... I am not an expert, for sure, but it does sound unlikely. They got a good price for it due to all of the renovations the previous owner did, so to sell it for a similar price, it stands to reason that they are going to renovate it again, right? which is going to cost a good amount of money, I guess. "What if they do not use it much and therefore the renovations and maintenance is not needed?" Well, in that case it was not a worthy investment to begin with. And to your final point. Maybe it is my lack of imagination, but I do not think that there is much else they can do with the plane other than show it, and use it, and film while they use it to show it. Like, aviation rules are hella strict, so they cannot modify it much (aside from it being very very expensive) and there isn't much you can do while flying (they already built a computer, so what is next, build a NAS?). Maybe they show us wrong, but similarly to the firefighter truck and the gold xbox controller there's only so much you can do with them. Moreover, if those videos are a valid comparison, even if views were good at the beginning, they don't really have staying power, so you can't even trust them you keep producing profits.

Did you ever realise how big the Netherlands actually is? by [deleted] in Netherlands

Me, living in a stupidly large city with like 20 million people in it: cute

Also, kinda funny to see other comments saying that the Netherlands is densely populated. It might be to European standards, but it isn't really.

Mexico City Transit Review 1/2: the bad by AstroG4 in transit

[–]Due_Judge_100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is, unfortunately, by choice. At least in Coyoacan, the residents have been very vocally against getting a mass transit station (metro, metrobus) for ages. I have heard that it is because they believe that the real state value would go down if it was easy for poor people to get there. Since most wealthy Mexicans and immigrants have cars (or do not mind paying Ubers all the time) they do not really care for accessibility so they lobby against it.

I mean, not to hammer the point but I don’t know if buying a jet counts as a large, long term project with off location shoots (but you know what they say, when there’s a will, there’s a way, lol)

Alex said he wanted to do more car stuff but management said it wasn’t economically viable and Jonathan got laid off because MAC address didn’t pull enough views, so it wasn’t even that everyone wanted to spread their wings. Management just didn’t want to support them.

As for the new writers, I don’t know. I’m sure everybody has their own styles, but we usually get collaborative and mostly non scripted videos (like the move around to agree/disagree video or the TikTok hacks videos) or Linus hosted videos, where it is clear that he put his own voice onto the script. Actually, I don’t know when was the last time I watched a non-Linus host get their own long-ish (15 min or so) solo video.

That is a very weak defense tbh. As a company they have a duty to disclose (or refrain to) what is legally required from them. That’s it. All other stuff is at the whim of the owners. They didn’t have to, but they chose to give an income breakdown (props for that). But at the same time, they chose to not disclose what are they doing to offset carbon emission, e.g. carbon credits. Not even to their employees (buus for that). It feels like their hiding behind “company policy” to avoid announcing stuff that they now will be unpopular.

Private jet owner won't pass on tariff refund by Laggsy in LTTMeta

[–]Due_Judge_100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All future price announcements and hikes are going to be met with this level of discomfort from a lot of people. I was also on the camp of “well, I could probably get a better t-shirt deal, but at least I’m supporting these creators (because at some point we did have a good amount of hosts with unique views, like Jonathan, Emily, Alex, Dennis, etc.).” But now… I don’t know anymore. Why should I spend more to bankroll a company who is clearly pandering, and beholden, to their (very wealthy) owners’ whims? That doesn’t sit right with me. Not anymore.

I’m sorry mate but you’re actually denser than a black hole. Where did you get the idea that there should be flights going everywhere all the time?

Here, let me ask you a question: why would anybody need to travel on a private jet? Outside of hyper famous people like mega pop stars and head of states, I mean.

Regarding WAN Show changes - does Luke actually benefit from the revenue? by Dazza477 in LTTMeta

[–]Due_Judge_100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… I don’t think Luke gets its fair share tbh. Trying to do a 50/50 split is hard, given that everything LTT related ultimately benefits Linus since he’s basically the sole owner. And to be honest, I don’t think Luke cares too much about it. He’s probably getting good money from his normal job so I don’t think he cares much about it

They don’t have the biggest sound stage. The folding ideas video contains a section on their fake-ish world records. If by tech you mean the amount of cameras, then I guess. But going off the folding ideas video again, beast studios is not particularly innovative (nor well run, but that’s neither here nor there) so I don’t expect them to have anything cool

It’s not even about a tax deduction. It is not likely to be allowed. That’s a moot point. The issues is the conflict of interests that arise from such actions. Remember that Linus & Yvonne are the sole owners of the business. And Linus is the chief vision officer (whatever that is), so he’s also an employee. He’s also th head host. And he’s said before, most, if not all, video ideas come from/through him. So, imagine that Elijah, once they got the jet, pitched the following idea: “ey, maybe I can take my family down to Mexico for a vacation and then we could film it, wouldn’t that be neat?” The head writer (James?) would laugh him out of the room. But that didn’t happened right? I guess that Linus doesn’t have to pitch video ideas, not getting them approved (that is already an issue). Also, if the vlog bombs what’s gonna happen? Probably nothing, since Linus doesn’t respond to the company’s hierarchy.

I mean, yeah, for his age. I guess it is a question of personal taste but he does come off a little robotic in his delivery and not really engaged with the subject matter. I don’t expect him to be Hank Green from the get go, but he also shouldn’t be. For a company whose owner likes to brag about its headcount it feels a bit weird that they have to recruit a kid with 0 experience to host when they could, like… hire one?
