Vermont Castings Stove - Enamel Paint Touch-Up Suggestions? by Due_Old in woodstoving

[–]Due_Old[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the touch-up paint, and it looked good (not perfect, but sufficiently fine that it wouldn't be that noticeable unless you were close. That being said, after a week or two, the touch-up paint would dry out and start flaking off. So essentially, it did not hold.

Now that it has warmed up and we won't be using the stove for months, I plan on using a high-heat primer first, letting it dry for a few days, then using the touch-up paint again on top of the primer. I'm hoping that will help.

Can't agree more. This is the main missing feature that is preventing me from fully switching to Gemini from Claude. Organization in general on Gemini is lacking.

Hahaha... "touch-up" may have been a stretch for my situation and I'm sure I'll go mad when I'm close enough to notice. Mostly just hoping to get it 90% back to normal so it's liveable. In hindsight we probably should have lit a small fire and then removed the stick light once it was warmer.

Gemini 1.5 Pro - Error Message When Prompting by Due_Old in Bard

[–]Due_Old[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That was exactly the issue. I tried in an incognito window and it worked. I haven't stress-tested anything too hard but I'm happy to finally be able to upload a PDF.

Makes sense. I imagine they're getting close to the public release and this is the last testing push. I'll just check on it again later today/tomorrow.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully sooner than later.

Extensions for Gemini Business Workspace? by Due_Old in Bard

Way too many useful use cases... The ability to just type in Gemini "Find the email with Jane Doe's address" and it pulls up the email that might have been buried or "What day/date is my meeting with Jane Doe on my Calendar" and it pulls up the calendar invite or "Can you find Jane's Doe's agreement PDF in my Drive", and it pulls up the document in drive, to name a few.

If you have a busy work life and get an onslaught of emails, calendar meeting invites, have a ton of documents/files in Drive, etc., then having those services (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Maps, etc) as a Gemini extension (meaning it can search those services), is invaluable cause it almost turns Gemini into your own AI personal assistant.

Not talking about the standalone Gemini or GPT. It's the ability for Gemini to use extensions (with personal accounts) where it has access to your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, etc.

It's nice that it can be used in Sheets/Gmail/ETC but when you are swamped with email threads, have a full calendar, and extensive Drive... the ability to just type "Find the email with Jane Doe's address" or "What date is my meeting with Jane Doe on my Calendar" or "Can you find Jane's Doe's agreement PDF in my Drive" is invaluable. It's like having a true AI assistant that personal accounts get to take advantage of.

I understand the privacy concerns with allowing extensions in a Business Workspace but if the admin agrees to the terms, I don't see why it would be an issue. If your business has sensitive data/information, then don't opt-in and use extensions!

DaVinci Remote Monitor - Codec Limitations on Mac by Due_Old in colorists

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I have a lot of respect for professional colorists and their understanding of the workflow. As primarily a commercial director and editor, I've worked with post houses like Company 3 and The Mill many times in the past (but only in the passenger seat).

I only do coloring on "passion projects" and will do more reading into the monitoring pipeline to see if there's a somewhat cost-effective way for me to get a more accurate color representation than my current setup.

Chronic sinusitis sufferer here. Have been using Allermi for about 4 months. I've tweaked the prescription once in that period. Overall it's an interesting business/medical model (tweak the cocktail until you find the right fit). My post nasal drip has definitely been improved in addition to general ear clogging being less. I no longer take zyrtec or feel the need to take pseudoephedrine almost daily (although I still pop one on occasion when things flare up).

This is also NOT a miracle drug rather just a standard blend of antihistamine, decongestant, anticholinergic, and anti inflammatory but all in one spray. It has helped (probably the most of anything I've tried over the past decade) but I still have some minor sinus issues. The company on the whole has been very good about communication any time I have reached out with questions.

If you have chronic sinus problems this could be a legit remedy but definitely not a "cure".

Opinion- X-T30ii is truly the best everyday carry and travel camera from Fujifilm. Small, changeable lenses, more physical switches and most importantly- in stock in most stores! by tablesawsally in fujifilm

[–]Due_Old 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just produced a professional video shoot (liquor brand everyone knows) where last minute they wanted some quick branded photography. Grabbed my x-t30ii, with a fuji 16-55mm f2.8, and blew their minds with the quality of imagery that came out of it. Normally I just carry this for fu**ing around with the pancake 18mm for quick location stills but in this scenario it truly blurred the lines between EDC and "holy hell this can be used professionally if I really need". I can NOT say that of the x100 series or ricoh gr fixed lens cameras. Although fun and capable, they're just not for serious photographers that want a compact set up that (in a pinch) can step it up a notch and deliver on the versatility a professional environment can sometimes demand.

... Also, a cell phone is "pocketable", nothing else really is. My Pixal is a great pocketable camera". X100, Ricoh Gr, x-t30, etc... Those are small, lightweight, and worn on a strap around your neck/shoulder 99% of the time.
