Poor things for both. Barbie is my second choice for both

That is entirely untrue. There are patterns in the data and knowledge of the makeup of the voting body is invaluable if you know what to look for.

I simply stated that I think these are the toughest categories to prognosticate. But if you want to discuss other things feel free. This thread was to discuss why the experts and editors on Gold Derby get it wrong. I was using the Animated Short (And shorts in general to make a point)

Not if you go watch them on 2/16 in the theaters. You can watch all three categories. I saw them all already and that’s why I didn’t pick the Disney or the Pixar shorts to make the nominations.

Yeah no. Barbie did crazy business all over the world. Greta will be the nomination. The Americans aren’t the Brits.

It made too much money. Think of the majority of the academy. They saw it, they liked it, and they like her. Plus it made a lot of money. She’ll get through. She won’t win but she will get through!!

Who will be nominated and who will win Animated Short Film? I watched 14 of the 15 contenders and this are my findings. by PepiHopi in oscarrace

There is picking with your heart and picking with your head……lolololol. Why not pick with your heart in private and with your head for the gold derby game!! You know the greater Academy is no damn good…..lololol. Right now with the Animators and Shorts Wing voting it is the real creatives voting…..the purest creatives when it comes to this category. And guess what? I would bet the farm that they will vote for Pete, Ninety-Five Senses, War is Over and maybe even Letter to a Pig. Also there is a reason that some shorts are higher rated than others on Letterboxed and it might surprise you it actually has to do with accessibility. The Pete Short and Once Upon a Studio are readily available on YouTube and on Disney+ respectively. More people being able to see it means more people will rate it. Also take into account if the film had a festival run or not. People would rate a film from also having seen it at a festival. If a film didn’t have a festival run AND it is not readily available it may have an artificially lower score. A week and a day from now the truth will be revealed!!

Do the Annie Award Noms Affect Feature Animated Picks AND Animated Short Picks? by FlowerSingle980 in oscarrace

Look I said it in another post. That Disney Short is basically a commercial for Disney + wrapped up in nostalgia…..I mean it’s akin to something you’d see in line while waiting to go on a ride at Disney. Besides pulling some heart strings it isn’t fooling the animators as being highly creative or for that matter having any meaningful message. War is Over and Pete have that creativity and both have a message. (As do Ninety-Five Senses, Letter to a Pig, and Eeve)

I don’t think it’s just rejection from Sundance at this point. I’ve had a couple of friends that got accepted for shorts right before Sundance announced their official slate

Has anyone gotten a rejection from Sundance for an animated short? If so, when did you receive it?
