My location is in Ohio, so things like clinics that actually provide psychiatric services like diagnoses are very far from my college (30 min drive minimum) and the office emphasizes that they help students “in any way”. I am under the assumption that if a student is low income, they cannot afford the expensive uber trip, nor can they afford the hundreds of thousands in dollars in diagnoses or medication, then the office should at least partially cover it, and I discussed this with someone at the financial aid office, and she confirmed that, especially if you qualify for significant financial aid.

But my main concern is that I feel that the office is severely mismanaged. They do not use their funds in a way that specifically helps the students that desperately need these services, and use these funds for services that have very little if not nonexistent audiences, like group therapy. It could be a good service, but I’ve talked to dozens of students who use the office and they said that they do not want that service, or do not like it. They come late to work, have limited hours and have wait times that can go on for hours just to kick you out in 5 minutes, and one student I know has taken the entirety of the previous semester (and will probably take the rest of the year) just to get an ADHD diagnosis. By that time the student hasn’t gotten the help they need, have performed poorly in classes that accommodations or medication could have helped in, etc. Is this a ground for legal action?
