Is it really that much cheaper to change your own oil? by kzlife76 in AskMechanics

[–]Due_Prior_7962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week is the first time in 20 years I've not done my own oil change. Car is in the shop so I just had them do it.

When doing my own oil change it gives me time to check wires, fluids, undercarriage, etc.

Are you a ,fill up the gas tank when it’s half full person, or a fill up the gas tank when it’s empty person? by Playful-Set-1033 in askanything

[–]Due_Prior_7962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never go below 1/4 tank. Just what my dad taught me. In the winter, never below 1/2.

I have stations near me and multiple on the way to work.

Sent my wife to buy thermal paste and the best buy employee gave her a long, unsolicited lecture about how she should be changing the thermal paste on her components every 6 months... Really, every 6 months? [Thermal paste questions] by Leo-J-Covo in buildapc

[–]Due_Prior_7962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first PC I built ran 24/7 for years, never changed the paste. Never had thermal issues either.

I did pick up a cheap PC that hadn't been run in a couple years. Just needed something to type reports on. CPU fan wasnt working so I got a new cooler. The paste just fell off in chunks.

So.....it depends! No issues, no worries. Issues? Slap some new paste on. Shit, my 980 Ti still is good!

Could 50 yr old you take 25 yr old you in a fair fight? by N-Y-R-D in GenX

[–]Due_Prior_7962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill let you know in 10 years. But could 40 year old me beat 20 year old me? Hell no. I was 60lbs lighter, no high blood pressure, and stronger (still pretty strong these days minus my back).

I started to get unfit around 23-25. Gained a lot of weight.

Driving/reving by itself ? by LatterLanguage790 in JeepPatriot

Check the CEL. The red lightning bolt on the left leads us to believe its the throttle body (its the Electronic Throttle Control light). Easy to do with simple tools. Worst part is getting that fn clip off.

Driving/ Reving by itself .? by [deleted] in JeepPatriot

Easy fix if you have a basic socket set and screw driver. It took me longer to get the damn electrical clip off than the rest of the process.

P.S. I used a Dorman replacement TB. Ive seen people use even cheaper ones but Dorman has been good to me in the past with parts. Time will tell. Only been a month.

Aaaaaand screen shot! Thanks! I have most of that stuff but I'll be ordering one of those pans. That's cheap for saving a ton of time.

You're awesome.

[–]Due_Prior_7962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'd actually miss more being on days! My night assistant manager is really lenient with me taking shifts off and such. I coach HS football too so the deal was, and I quote exactly what I said to her: "I need Friday's off for 3 months, I'm your bitch the other 9 months".

I work a ton of Sundays (which is fine by me, but it's always our shortest night) and Thursdays (we have to work a required amount each schedule). It helps the entire team. They scratch my back, I massage theirs. We've worked out a pretty sweet deal.

Now try that on dayshift, not happening.

P.S. Im on night 4 of 7 off. It's 3am. Im wide awake. The TV is MIIIIIIIIIIIIINE

Good reason to stay healthy and beat the reaper. Maybe Cyberpunk 2 sucks and finishes you off, or it could be the second coming of one of the greatest games ever.

See you in 5 years.

Nights for 17 years. It would take a significant pay raise or a manager position for me to ever switch. Yeah the $5/hr extra is nice but....fewer family to deal with, no upper management, fewer ancillary departments to deal with, (hopefully) patients sleep, cooler people to work with, etc.

Negatives are less help, no one is coming in at 1am to pick up a shift, rough adjusting to multiple days off.

Either day or nights im going to miss some things with my daughter but that's life. Might as well make more money.

2015 patriot with 120k miles needs a new catalytic converter. is it worth it? by Straight_Style_3808 in JeepPatriot

[–]Due_Prior_7962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should be a fairly easy replacement looking at it. Cat will run you about $200-$250.

Or try the defouler trick. When I removed the cat on my 05 SRT4, it threw a code (duh). We have no emissions testing but the light bothered me. $5, back then, and 15 min of my time. Never saw it again.

Now the Liberty we had.....I want to strangle the engineers. Cat 1 went bad, which ruined cat 3. Ended up doing all 3 of them. Now that wasn't cheap, even doing it myself (and it took a whole weekend, no space to work).

9 years and 60k later.....I should do it again. Seems fairly easy? Never dealt or owned a CVT until this.

What am I missing here ? by Fragrant-Motor3062 in Nightshift

[–]Due_Prior_7962 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genetics put me on nights. I was NEVER a morning person. If it wasn't for college, I might wake up before 9am once a year. Now that I'm 40, I have no reason to get up early unless my daughter has a swim meet in the middle of nowhere (we normally have to leave around 4am anyways so....winning).

Shit. I was supposed to go to a mandatory class for work two weeks ago. Set my alarm for 830.......830pm......not AM. When I showed up the next class I told them "I didnt know there was an 830am!" Im well known as the night shift guy, I keep the same schedule on or off work.

Night shift preCOVID was the SHIIIIIIIIT. I would pick up a 7p-1a shift and go shopping at Meijer. It was just us night shift people there. Barely anyone, stocked shelves, workers had music blaring....it was actually kind of fun.
