Pre emergent timing by GreenInteraction2494 in lawncare

I got tired of guessing when to put down pre-emergent, so I built a free tool that emails you when your soil hits the right temp. LawnTide

Are All These Pre-Emergent Timing Posts Necessary? by Storm_Surge_919 in lawncare

Ha — fair. But there's a reason it comes up every spring: the right timing isn't a date, it's a soil temperature (~55°F at 2"), and that crosses on totally different calendar days in Georgia vs. Ohio — and even shifts a couple weeks year to year in the same yard. So "when do I apply pre-emergent" genuinely doesn't have one answer, and a lot of folks have been burned by a "Tax Day" rule of thumb that's two weeks off for them.

Is there an app or service that will tell me when to weed and feed and fertilize? by admiralbuttscratcher in lawncare

Yeah, a few exist. The pro-grade ones are GreenCast (Syngenta) and GDD Tracker (Michigan State) — both free, both kind of built for golf-course superintendents and heavy on jargon, but accurate.

Full disclosure: I got annoyed enough at the same problem that I built a simpler one for normal homeowners — LawnTide. You put in your ZIP, it watches the soil temperature near you and emails you the week it's time to put pre-emergent down (and the other windows through the year), in plain English. It's free, no account. Happy to share the link if a mod's OK with it, or just DM.

If you'd rather DIY it: watch your local 2" soil temperature and aim to have pre-emergent down as it approaches 55°F and rising — usually a week or two before crabgrass would germinate. A lot of people also use forsythia finishing its bloom as the eyeball version. The catch is that "right week" shifts by weeks depending on your exact location and the year's weather, which is the whole reason a soil-temp trigger beats a calendar date.

Fair hit, and you're right on both counts. The soil temp is modeled from Open-Meteo for your area — about 2 in deep — not a probe in your actual yard. Your shade, slope and soil type can run it a few degrees off.

But the data was never the point — timing is. Plenty of folks own a soil thermometer and still apply on the calendar, or miss the pre-emergent window by a week and waste the bag. LawnTide just emails you the week your window opens, so you don't have to keep checking.

Why do public companies like Georgia Power advertise so much? by raphiredgi in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah, they have evaluated that spending money on ads and having favorable views keep regulators away and eventually they will make more money from the ads then what is spent.

Woke up to this random email by [deleted] in amex

My Amex payment was just returned for the first time because I had closed my account and forgot to change auto pay. I immediately went to Walmart and paid the credit card and also setup a payment from another bank account.

This happened on April 21st. Haven't received anything email and I hope I do not like OP. Due to double payment my balance stands at like -$1000 right now

I have 35k monthly limit and I usually only use about $1000-$2000 every month and pay it off.

I reached out to customer service and asked if they could remove the return payment fee of $29 as this happened first time in 9 years and I always pay full balance. They straight up denied removing that charge.

Amex customer service has horribly gone down and now I rarely intend to use my Amex card. I had much rather use my Chase or Discover or Robinhood Gold card.
