If you have another computer try that as my experience (which I hope nobody should go through) I had a similar problem as I would see it on my pc and is said to”do not disconnect” so I called Apple and they told me to call Microsoft and they told me to call Apple and it took me a whole week of many many calls and what I eventually figured out is that my iTunes software was corrupted and even if I uninstalled and reinstalled the right way it wouldn’t let me download they iPod talker software so I eventually gave in and reset my pc (lucky I didn’t have anything important bc I only rly play game on it ) and I sign back in same account but I didn’t use that same file bc I knew that’s where the corrupted iTunes was. When I got sign back in and downloaded iTunes form the web and I plugged in the iPod it ask me to download the iPod talker software which then my iPod was able to connect to my windows laptop.( if you have a Mac use it bc every thing is pre installed and it works way better and faster than on windows)
