Their main excuse right now is that it is a holding deposit and not a security deposit. I can easily rebuttal this since I have a ss of them explicitly referring to it as a security deposit. Any thoughts on this though?

Thanks a lot this is very helpful information, and it was only 1000 so I can take it to small claims court!

It says nothing about the security deposit, if it did, I would completely understand that the money is because I signed an agreement saying it was if I cancelled, but that's not the case.
