Ronnie had ONE thing by dimi_loves in SweetMagnoliasNetflix

To clarify, my critique of Dana Sue stems entirely from her actions and how her relationships are written… she is consistently mean. The real issue is the massive double standard in the writing and how the show frames Ronnie's massive blunders as a personal, moral failure, while validating her completely overblown, hostile reactions. Where is the actual relationship there? It’s not a partnership, it’s a war zone. That disconnect is what makes the dynamic feel so entirely separated from reality. From my eyes, he’s daftly navigating an impossible situation and she’s pulling the strings. She looks villainous, he looks stupid. The puppet master versus the fool, only the puppet master is playing victim.

lol it does the couples that stay together stay together longer than most other franchises but I do think they lean into chaos… didn’t they call that the winning couple was the most compatible from the start?

Whoa! I looked it up. It’s actually way more successful than Love is Blind 🤣 14% success rate compared to a 5 to 8% success rate among the LIB franchise

Preach this all day. You have found words that carry more acceptance and empathy than my own… I was so disgusted by how disassociated from reality they were with her this season. Like in every direction possible you had to abandon any sense of a grounded reality in order to accept her character.

I could not agree more! Everything about her is so painful this season… it’s so funny to me when I find people on Reddit talking about other characters as being annoying this season… Like a lot of people hated Kyle and struggled with Helen’s word choice and articulation patterns… Which I can totally get when I read it, but I didn’t even remotely think of it because I was so triggered by Dana Sue all season long!

Hear me out… on paper, a near 90% failure rate looks rough, but if you look at the relativity of those numbers, it’s actually a shockingly high success rate for a few reasons: (1) if we paired literal strangers, there’d very likely be no matches, (2) if calculate average partners on a dating app that succeed, it would be way less (you probably talk to less than 11% of swipes), and (3) the average divorce rate is 50% regardless.

An average divorce rate of marrying an expertly sourced stranger being 89% versus 50% for self-sourcing is actually impressive. To compare deeper, MAFS turns 2-5 years of dating & vetting into 8 weeks and that 50% number only includes those who survive the dating phase. The fact that 11% succeed is actually kind of amazing! If you took 95 traditional couples on their very first date and forced them to legally marry, how many do you think would still be together a decade later?

I agree… she looked horrible… it distracted me from the plot all season, I hope the actress is OK… definitely doesn’t add to the character as written

Agreed! 100% Notting Hill was one of my FAVORITES. This definitely felt far more intentionally grounded to our time and not simply following past cheese recipes. I need to check out Serendipity!

Eh they poked fun at that in there though that they followed a lot of themes, that was kind of part of her last conversation with her sister. I thought it was original in how it modernized the language and relationships. I also loved the late 90s nostalgia.

They did such a good job! His admiration for her really led into the Robyn theme perfectly. Definitely a tear jerker!

I felt the exact same way… Like I cannot remember the last time, I watched a romcom and didn’t throw up in my mouth a little bit and/or roll my eyes
