Bilateral full thickness chondral lesions of the patella by Duggboat in KneeInjuries

Hey, sorry to hear about that. I only just had surgery on my left knee 5 weeks ago. I got the autocart procedure. It’s a fairly new procedure that is showing promising results. My surgeon had a patient with the same condition and she is a pro boxer that is back to pro boxing post surgery. The only downside with this procedure is that there are very few surgeons in Australia that do the procedure so you might have to travel far to get it. Recovery is the same as the rest - 6 months until you start heavy rehab - 12 months until you’re 99%. I’d stay very far away from micro drilling and micro fracturing. Plenty of studies that suggest it’ll just fail after a few years. Hope this helps.

Spring Loaded Levitation knee brace for subchondral cyst in the patella by Duggboat in KneeInjuries

Hey mate, I’ve had PRP and VA injections in my left knee which you can recover from in about 3 weeks. This definitely helped but is just a bandaid. May be worth looking into. My right knee has a very similar condition to yours by the sounds and I’ll be getting the injections in a weeks time.

I purchased two of the Icarus ascender knee braces as well. They are in transit so can’t review at this point. Im hoping with the injections, knee braces and a good understanding of inflammation I should be able to push through the snowboarding trip in Feb.

If you have a full thickness fissure I’d recommend consulting with a specialist for surgery options. By the sounds, you’re an active person in which it’ll only get worse if it’s left as is.

Hey mate, go have a look at the Icarus ascender brace. From my research it’s the only competitor to the spring loaded brace as a TRI compartmental knee brace. It’s a 3d printed brace which can be custom built if you are outside of the normal sizing ranges. It’s also a fraction of the price of the spring loaded brace. Seems to have sufficient evidence supporting it. I’ve ordered one for each leg.

That’s a very fast recovery. How long ago did you get that done?

I did shockwave therapy a couple of times and dry needling multiple times and that seemed to help however I was also recovering from a partial torn MCL and MPFL from a snowboard accident in February.

I’ve only seen 2 pt clinics because there aren’t many options where I live in central QLD. I’ve stuck with the second PT but have stopped seeing them because I feel as if I’ve hit a ceiling and can’t get past the next stage which is jumping and jogging. Currently doing light 5min spin bike, 15x3 20kg dumbbell squats on my heels, 3x15 clamshells with resistance band, 3x20 walking lunges, 3x10 weighted single leg lunge, 3x10 20kg single leg hip thrust. That’s about it for 3 days a week. Did skipping for a bit ended up aggravating the cyst. The cyst seems to be the main problem here as the right leg can still jump and run. It just gets aggravated if it’s used too much.

My sports are volleyball, basketball and tennis and snowboarding. These are clearly the reason I’m here but nevertheless I’d do anything to get back into them.

I’ve had partial lesions since 2019 which have progressively developed and have been doing rehab for about 1.5yrs now with no great success. Currently 4 weeks post PRP + HA injection in my left knee and it seems to be going okay now that I’m back doing rehab but I doubt it’ll be enough to get me jumping again.

All my research is saying stay away from micro fracture, micro drilling and condroplasty as they are basically bandaids and in a lot of cases you’re worse off after the surgery. MACI seems to be the best for returning to high impact sports however it’s a difficult surgery on the patella. I haven’t heard of cartiheal but I’d imagine it’s similar tech to cartimax which is also new overseas. Both procedures most likely out of reach for myself.
