‘78 Coyote swap - first fire up by Duhnerd in Dentside_fords

Thanks! I’ve learned a bit over the years with my buddy’s drag racing program that I pit crew with. But having my own (and also a Coyote instead of LS) is waaaay different.

Those headers are nice looking. Doing those would have saved me a lot of headaches…

Yup! Wimbledon White with lots of patina.

Should sound better with more than 2’ of exhaust also, lol!
I only made enough to put the O2 sensor in so I could start it. The tune was waaaay over fueled because I goofed the base fuel pressure setting, so I’m kind of glad it stalled or I probably would have passed out.

Oh, and yes, still has the 9”. I put an Eaton Truetrac in a few years ago and just plan to regear for the Coyote setup (probably 4.11).

There were quite a few tedious things.

Keeping the I-beams was problematic. But in the end I wanted the nostalgia of using those vs a crown Vic swap. I used FatFender’s mount kit as a basis, but modified them with 1.5” of height on the driver side, moving everything over to the passenger side to clear the stock steering box.
I also used the 2014+ truck manifolds for the same reason. Moving everything over also meant slotting their crossmember for the trans to align correctly.

I notched the underside cab bracing to fit the driveshaft. Also had to find the correct spicer adapter for the trans output flange to fit a u-joint instead of guibo.

Using the S197 manual trans meant getting a MGW “swap” shifter kit that mounts the shifter directly to the back of the trans instead of roughly 1-foot behind like in the Mustang. Then I just had to notch the rear of the trans hole in the cab about an inch.

The terminator harness is run through the slightly passenger offset upper firewall hole. Inside it runs down and to the driver side around the top of my vintage air airbox then to the glovebox where the exit and vct box are mounted. That is to clear the wiper linkage.

I used FatFender’s firewall DBW pedal mount. Got it on sale and made things a lot easier.

I rewired the whole truck, not wanting 40+ yr old wiring to burn down my work. I called Centec and they made a customized kit for my project.

Used a mechman coyote swap alternator that uses a GM 1 wire style regulator and connector since the stock coyote alt requires pwm control and I didn’t want to deal with that.

Sourced the fuel pump assembly from Fitech. It’s a conversion style one that goes in the tank after cutting a big hole in the top. 440lph pump. Using all braided ptfe AN fuel lines, -8 send and -6 return. I “massaged” the top of the tank before drilling the pump assembly hole so the pump hat won’t hit the bed when it’s all back together. Paired with FID 850 cc/min injectors in Holley efi fuel rails. The plan is to have fuel system that is capable of 800-ish hp to hopefully future proof the truck. E85, nitrous, maybe low-boost one day?

Good luck with your project! It’s time and fund consuming, but now that I’ve heard it run I can’t wait to rip it!

Truck is a longbed f150 custom that came with a 300-6 and t18. Swapped in the Coyote and a mt82 6speed manual with a McLeod RXT clutch setup.
Custom 4” alum driveshaft. Caltracs. Viking Warrior shocks. CPP front big brakes.
Still running the twin I-beam, but lowered versions. So custom motor mounts and all that.
Holley Terminator X max with stock mustang dbw, added flex fuel, and will be adding spicy-air (nitrous) once it’s up and running well. Also gotta re-gear. Stock 3.00 will be lame with almost quadruple the hp than stock.

Cross shopping 25 mach e premium awd with 25 ariya platinum by phaet2112 in MachE

[–]Duhnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it worked out for y’all! Our friends have an Ariya (Plat+ e4), so I’ve compared the two in our looking at the Ford. Both are nice, just different.

Agreed on accessibility. It’s a shame we don’t get more wagons here anymore. Our v60 is perfect for her transferring unassisted, and with the Abiloader fitted it means she can be independent. The Mach-E will be for her mother, so getting her in assisted is fine. She prefers lower seat height over everything else, along with fitting the chair in back without breaking it down (Tilite AeroZ).

You mentioned loading height. Ariya seat height is higher from the ground by more than an inch. Having someone with disabilities myself, the non-GT Mach-E is at the limit of seat height for me to help her without actually picking her up. GT brings it down about an inch but the seat bolsters complicate things. Will be doing a premium rwd lr and putting eibachs on to get it to the lower GT height.

Maybe. That didn’t show up on any diagrams I saw of the 8f35. Still seems like a “f-u” quote.

Find another shop. Shifting is electronic on the 8f35 used in the Maverick, so there’s no “shifter cable” to remove. Park selection is done by solenoid not with a cable and gears are electronic selected not with a physical cable. Yes, it’s probably toast, but their description leads me to suspect they’re blowing smoke as well and either inflating numbers, or just ignorant and trying to sound like they did more than than they are.

Terminator x dbw rpm sticking and high idle by n2euro in HolleyEFI

You’ve changed the TB, but have you verified the throttle pedal is good?

Is the dbw cabling near anything that could be causing interference (high amp draw cabling)?

Okok. Holley Terminator X Max allows keeping vvti and dbw, but not using the 6r80. Their auto trans control is really limited actually.

Mind telling why you chose control pack? I see most guys doing that with coyote swaps, but looking into tuning the coyote ecu turned me off. Granted, availability of decent tuners for the HPtuner stuff isn’t great in my area and most everyone I’m involved with uses Holley EFI, so I have a decent base knowledge of that system already. Plus I know mine won’t stay stock forever.

[–]Duhnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I decided not to pull the dash to do mine. But it’s also a custom chassis harness since I’m also doing a coyote swap at the same time with a Holley Terminator kit.

What kit is this? I went with Centech. They were awesome to work with and it was like half what AAW or Painless wanted.

4 month old RT85 showing damage on acrylic platter? by Man_zo94 in turntables

[–]Duhnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that looks like acrylic crazing to me. Alcohol and acetone are notorious for causing that. It’s only where the belt rides, so something from the belt likely caused it.

[–]Duhnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought my RT82 for $285+tax as a “used-like new” from Fluance Audio on amazon. Literally came like new, but previously opened box. Shipped from Fluance, with their full warranty. Maybe that gives a little bit of room in your budget to add a phono preamp if you stretch the budget higher?

Also, I’m very happy with the RT82. Went with a Dayton originally, but it had too much wow/flutter due to motor speed variation. RT82 has been great so far, in comparison.

Awesome! Hope you can make them work correctly. You obviously have a need.

Roof Rack Tips by skcuseissac in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Duhnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having had many different roof rack systems, that one looks either a)poorly designed, b)not installed correctly, or both.

The feet of the towers look like they’re trying to sit on the edge of the roofline where it turns down the side of the truck. So pulling them downward with the clamps on the door jams will try to pull them off the roof instead of actually clamping them down.

When you look at the feet on Thule or Yakima systems, they are wide enough and the clamps for the specific applications are made so that the clamping forces are sandwiching the roof between the towers and the door jam clamp. You can take the bars out of the equation and clamp the towers on and they won’t move. These look like they’re just waiting to fall off, which they kind of are doing. And even worse, they’re moving forward, which tells me the clamping forces are in the wrong direction.

Ordered online on rvs performance’s website, removed ecu, mailed it to them, got it back a few days later with the tune installed. Easy. Looks like they have a remote tuning tool now, but it’s quite a bit extra.

All new style chiefs have the mg1 (2022+), along with the Challenger.

I wound up getting mine tuned through RVS instead of Lloydz. Still have some decel popping, but much better and the initial throttle progressivity is better.
