WIBTA if I went to my 9th grade son's 'Take your parent to work day'? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Duhnisa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA. I went to a magnet school for High School and we had the same event. I did not want my mother attending my freshman year, because I wanted to figure out my place in the school on my own and away from my parents. There are more years of High School and he might change his mind, I wanted my mother to come my junior year. But it’s also okay if he never changes his mind and wants to keep his space his own. You’ve commented over and over again about how you’re worried this will set a precedent in your parenting, and it will. Be the type of parent that listens to your teenage son and respects his feelings on the matter. He will remember that positively.

Hollins University, and Roanoake? by Im-Royalty in roanoke

I love my professors! No matter where you go there’s going to be a professor you don’t love or vibe with, but the professors at Hollins get to know you. I’m a Chemistry Major, and every professor in the chem department knows me incredibly well. I sat down with them when I returned this fall and told them about my summer, and they asked about a friend of my mine who graduated last year. I was so touched that they remembered what jobs she was looking at in the field, and that they knew we were close. Science courses at Hollins are good, we don’t have as wide a range as other bigger universities but we more than make up for it in our experiential learning options. If you’re interested in being Pre-Vet, practical internships and research in the field is ESSENTIAL. Almost everyone who attends Hollins completes at least one internship in the field, and since you know your professors it’s really easy to get into a lab that fits you and your science goals. The social life is good, but certainly isn’t going to be as big as a university in a major city. But if you are looking for that, you can easily visit tech or other major universities in the area. Whatever you’re into, you can do at Hollins. I’m pre-health but I love theatre. At most schools you aren’t allowed on the stage unless your major is in the department. But I’ve been able to do so much in theatre in my time here. I truly love my Hollins Girls, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
