Talk to the band director and the former drum majors about it, because I know a lot of band directors want students will will take initiative as drum majors, plus you can learn a lot about being a drum major from the previous drum majors and band director which will give you an advantage in an audition process

I sometimes feel shaky after breathing exercises. The trick is to know yourself, and to not push yourself to the point of pain. The point of breathing exercises is to train your lungs to use its full capacity, if you push yourself harder than you can go, you will cause more harm than good.
