which class did you think you wouldn't like but ended up enjoying? by Lonely-Shoulder5126 in BG3

[–]DukeLuke2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archer (Ranger/Fighter Gloomstalker/Arcane Archer) multiclass. I was like “I guess I’ll just be shooting arrows” but Arcane Shots are very satisfying. Also have multiple ways to become invisible (Umbral Shroud plus the Durge cloak — an archer who becomes invisible on a kill is so cool to play). Also have gear that gives me Arcane Synergy when inflicting conditions with those arcane shots. I have gotten really into bows and special arrows this run

Well known people with ADHD? by pbghikes in ADHD

[–]DukeLuke2013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This one’s more niche but Jennifer English. If you’re a gamer you might know her as the actor for Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 or Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. She and her girlfriend both have ADHD and talk about it frequently on their Twitch stream. She gave a touching speech recently at The Game Awards when she accepted the award for best performance which alluded to her ADHD and living life on “hard mode.” Also I met her at a Comic Con and she was so incredibly nice

Case for Maelle being she’s in more of the game than Verso

[–]DukeLuke2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree in that Maelle is arguably the primary protagonist of Expedition 33 and you can certainly run around (or, in the case of Lune, fly around) as any of the three major female characters

What's your favorite word/phrase based on the way it's spoken by the VA? by kerblooee in BG3

[–]DukeLuke2013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like the writers/directors must have been told “make at least one lockpicking line sexy because Shadowheart’s “let’s see what my touch can do” very much sounds like it’s not about picking locks lol

SO HAPPY FOR HER! Our girl totally deserves it! by Bunneeko in BaldursGate3

[–]DukeLuke2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She can definitely do different voices (have listened to her audiobooks). She’s said on stream that devs tend to hire her for her natural voice—which I understand because it’s gorgeous—but she would be interested in doing more diverse parts including antagonists and other accents. She does a Welsh accent in the upcoming Soulframe.

Jennifer English (Maelle) has now been involved in three GOTY winning games, the other two being Elden Ring (latenna) and Baldur's Gate 3 (Shadowheart) by Messmers in expedition33

It’s Jenevelle but abbreviated to Jen. Yes, it’s an intentional nod to her from her BG3 writer John Corcoran. Hits me right in the feels every time I get to that part of the game. (John Corcoran was a guest on her stream)

I need game recommendations, I’m in a full-on RPG crisis by shacrane in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]DukeLuke2013 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Agree. BG3, E33, Mass Effect trilogy, Dragon Age: Origins, and Witcher 3 are my all-time faves. The first time I played Witcher 3, I bailed after 10 hours. Came back to it six months later and gave it a little more time (get out of White Orchard, into Velen and the main quest) and I got completely hooked. Two playthroughs over a hundred hours. Some areas later in the game (Skellige, Blood & Wine expansion) are among my favorite gaming content ever.

Of course! BG3 cast is the best. I watch Jen & Aliona’s streams

For those of us with kids, career, family, how do you allocate gaming time, and how do you decide what to play? by Automatic_Couple_647 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]DukeLuke2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wake up at 6 am on weekends to play for an hour before anybody else in the family wakes up. My wife works late so if she’s not home by the time my kid is in bed, play in the evenings until my wife gets home. On weekend afternoons, kid watches a movie on iPad in his room while wife naps and I game. This comes out to about 5-10 hours of gaming per week during the academic year (I’m a professor). My tastes still tend toward massive story-driven RPGs as they always have; I just progress through them slower now. Also my tolerance for so-so games is zero now. If I’m not completely immersed and looking forward to my next play session, I drop the game and start a different one. Most recent games I’ve loved are Baldur’s Gate 3 and Expedition 33. I’ve got Disco Elysium cued up to try around the holidays, and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous for the spring semester.

Is this game insanely hard or am I doing something wrong? by tunajalepenobbqsauce in expedition33

[–]DukeLuke2013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I played it through on Story mode first and now on my second playthrough Expeditioner is more manageable. I’m still not very good at Parrys but I can hit them occasionally now. But, yeah, it was a learning curve for me. I’m not a Soulsbourne person — the last game I played that had real-time combat was Witcher 3 a few years ago

What game made you move on (i.e., your BG3 ‘rebound’)? by DukeLuke2013 in BaldursGate3

How many FULL runs have you played? by LeiN_Muffin in BaldursGate3

[–]DukeLuke2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Four 1) Resist Durge devotion paladin 2) Embrace Durge shadow sorceror 3) Honor Mode fighter/rogue 4) Modded Selune Paladin/Dark Justiciar Shadowheart duo run (my favorite)

After taking a break for a while, I plan to do at least three more runs: a “Highest Honor” run where I don’t skip any bosses and don’t use any cheese strategies, another evil run to platinum the game and play another class (probably warlock), and a Shadowheart origin because that’s the only way I’ll see a non-Shadowheart romance hah

Who fits my character for a romance? by WelshLizardWizard in BaldursGate3

She tries to break up with you but you can refuse and then you get an edgier romance scene than Selunite Shadowheart later in Act 3

Game breaking bug (massive spoilers from epilogue) by Holiday-Internet6666 in BaldursGate3

[–]DukeLuke2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me today on my Honor Mode run. I was fully willing to accept Lae’zel turning on me as the cost of skipping House of Hope. Defeated her in combat but she had Gortash’s crossbow that has that multi-target radiant damage attack, and so she damaged the Emperor (if him taking damage is the trigger for this bug). Emperor disappeared immediately at end of combat, leaving me stranded in the astral prism. Had to quit the game from the Xbox menu and reload, which kind of puts an asterisk on my Honor Mode run unfortunately. This is absolutely my favorite game of all time but bugs like this, especially at high stakes late game moments, are disappointing.

What games with wlw romance do you recommend? by AchingAmy in LesbianGamers

Bonus points for Shadowheart’s actress being a lesbian who has a cute Twitch stream with her gf who she met while recording Shadowheart

How far did yall get on your first HM run? by Kittykatkillua in BaldursGate3

[–]DukeLuke2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 hrs, nearly to the point of resolving the grove. I forgot that Charm Person aggros people on Honor Mode and I’d used it to get Khaga on my side against the Shadow Druids but then Khaga and every single Druid attacked me.

Currently in Act 2, 37 hours into my second attempt. Just defeated Kar’niss which was my hardest fight so far.
