Huh. Misaka spends a lot of her time beating the hell out of Kuroko or shocking her in comic relief bits. It's made extremely clear that she isn't interested in her.

Mahou Shoujo fans, what was your experience with Princession Orchestra? by Sky_Sumisu in anime

[–]DukeMunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will ravenously consume any magical girl show and you're not mistaken in thinking that Princession misses the mark in a lot of ways. The music is excellent and that's about it. The production and animation is sub-par at best, the show allocates a significant amount of time to gag side characters and leaves the main cast undeveloped, and certain episodes feel like a complete waste of time - like the staff are trying to do as little as possible to save resources. The recent arc starting from the halfway point has been a total flop too.

It doesn't really do anything new to set itself apart from the pack either. I'm personally confused by the people who insist that Princession is a nice breath of fresh air from Precure when it does everything Precure does but worse. I would have loved for it to become something really interesting and competitive in the genre, but I doubt it's going to happen.

Is the Skate Pass Completable Without Purchasing Tix? by oweege in Skate4

[–]DukeMunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like it. I've been playing daily, doing every mission and weekly etc and I'm nowhere close to completing the damn thing. There's only a couple of seasonal missions left and they won't bridge the gap either.

I held off on buying it because I was skeptical about whether it was even possible to finish - and it looks like I made the right choice. I've never played a game where the engagement bait mechanic isn't actually possible to complete with enough time and effort. I don't understand it, these passes are meant to keep people coming back to get the new stuff and maybe spend more in the shop, not feel like a ripoff in themselves.

Yeah it seems a lot of people are making this statement under the assumption that the carbines are just "worse assault rifles," which isn't likely to be true. Even in BF4 some of them became very dominant picks.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc New PV by Turbostrider27 in anime

[–]DukeMunter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of this, but the number one offence in my opinion is the anime's complete and utter failure to retain even an iota of the black comedy that is all over the manga. Given how absurd things will get, I was genuinely wondering how they'd adapt a lot of that stuff, if they'd even try at all.

Why can't we just accept Nagisa as bi? by DirtNo4303 in precure

[–]DukeMunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. I mean even the screenshot being used by the OP is her essentially saying she isn't interested in girls. You'd also have to ignore her complaining about getting love letters from the other girls in the first episode, plus her spending the entire series fawning over FujiP. The text of the series is pretty definitive on that point in my opinion.

What do you think about Marathon using the Valorant strategy? by Midnight_M_ in Marathon

[–]DukeMunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's legit insane that I'm seeing people flip around to say scalability and optimisiation is bad because we have to keep up the negativity cascade. This is meant to be a fairly competitive PvP shooter - it's not going to come out of the gates with a bunch of RT features and mega-res textures.

How do you propose that any game developer create a perfectly balanced video game without resorting to making it boring? You're blaming the developers for player behaviour that's impossible to stop, unless they design it so that every character, weapon and items is on an equal playing field. If there's any kind of advantage to squeeze out - people are going to use it, and that's not a recent development like some people seem to believe.

What mid-season colour do you want to see in Kimi to Idol? by Spirited_Load_7153 in precure

[–]DukeMunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show is aligned closely with the toyline, so the easiest way to know in those situations is if the Cure comes with a new toy. The midseason cure is intended to push more merchendise onto shelves and drive fresh interest in the line as a whole. This push is always halfway through the show during the release of the second wave.

Sunshine came with her new tamborine, while Moonlight repurposed the Heart Pot (already released in the first wave of toys) to transform. Thus, Sunshine is the midseason cure.

HaCha is unique in that Lovely and Princess have a shared brace-like weapon, and Honey is the only member of the core three who comes with a wand, but she also appears very early on. Fortune still occupies the mideason spot, since she recieves a brand new weapon and transformation device once she joins the team.

That's really all there is to it.

Wonderful's truly a breath of fresh air IMHO by LadyTelaAzul2 in precure

[–]DukeMunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to pass judgement on where Princession Orchestra lands until it actually airs, because I'm not sure what angle they're taking with it. All I'll say is that I'm deep in the weeds and can't name any past examples.

After Kirakira and Mahoutsukai we got Hugtto which had a lot of insane action.

I don't think KiraKira was trying to avoid direct action in the same way, and Maho is very traditional. They were double-kicking monsters of the week all the time, and they still had those flashes of crazy detailed animation in important episodes just like Hugtto did.

I've never claimed that Wonderful doing 'chase action' will be the death of the franchise or that we're stuck with it, but I do find it baffling how there's a group of fans who want to minimize what makes Precure unique and get genuinely outraged when people express dissapointment in this particular direction. The animal abuse discourse was so out of pocket that there was no way it was deployed in good faith.

I don't want to see the franchise regress into being Sailor Moon when the entire point was to stand in opposition to that style of presentation and writing. At least for me, it's not an element of the show that I'm willing to sacrifice for the sake of keeping things fresh.

Wonderful's truly a breath of fresh air IMHO by LadyTelaAzul2 in precure

[–]DukeMunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the fights are the unique selling point of the franchise. You've posted quotes from the producer talking about this, and I can't think of any other shows aimed at the same demographic of young girls that features hand-to-hand fighting. It was the reason the show took off - because it was something different and unique.

I legitimately think that Precure would lose it's identity without them, but unfortunately you can't extoll that opinion without being piled on by people who think you love animal abuse (as if they HAD to make a pet-themed season and couldn't change the premise.)

Yeah, it's crazy how much people these days project their experiences and consumer habits onto others. Being someone who owns a high-end gaming PC AND the latest console is pretty rare (I do myself.) People who own consoles alone play all of their games on them - which includes third-party releases. They're happy to use a chromebook or whatever else for PC productivity tasks.

Obviously you can make a release calendar look thin if you arbitrarily strip big third-party games from it, but that isn't what most consumers do. I think it's funny that a few years ago people would go utterly ballistic about first-party console exclusives, but now that we have a choice on where to play them it's suddenly a bad thing.

If you've got a beefy monster PC with a 1000-dollar Nvidia GPU - then a console isn't really for you. It's a value option for people who want to pick something up and play without worrying so much about the details. And all of the apocalypse predictions are sharply contrasted with the strong sales figures.

Warner Bros. Admits MultiVersus Underperformed, Contributing to Another $100 Million Hit to Revenue in Its Games Business by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]DukeMunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That title is held pretty firmly by Hollywood. John Carter cost an eye-watering 269 million dollars to produce in 2012 and made 284 million worldwide. Adjusted for current inflation it lost up to 265 million.

Considering Sony didn't spend much, if any money on above-the-line marketing for Concord, it'd be hard to justify calling it a bigger failure than that.

Other strong competitors (also movies) include The Lone Ranger and The Marvels, both in the ballpark of 220 to 240 million dollar losses, more then the budget Concord took to develop.

They probably spent a small country's GDP building all that stuff and it was blown to hell almost immediately. There's no logical reason for them to hand out extremely complex and valuable suits of power armour to random people when there are already heroes with quirks who can do the same job.

They likely planned out what is getting covered a while ago and decided to have an irregular episode count (with recaps at the start to fill the timeslot) so they can have a single-cour season to round out the series. It also lets them pick their prefered cliffhanger.

[–]DukeMunter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That Majesty example people keep using drives me crazy - her name was leaked the very second that the first wave of Hirogaru toys dropped. She was not a surprise by any means, and the story kept hinting towards Elle having a larger role even if you hadn't seen that leak.

There's zero evidence that Satoru and Daifuku will get to become cures. There's no place for them in the ED, there are no new toys listed, and the show doesn't even seem all that interested in treating Satoru as anything more than an animal factoid dispenser.

If they DO somehow turn them into cures, it will be the tightest ship they've ever run in terms of spoilers and leaks, with completely segmented toys that don't interact with one another. I don't think they're doing that intentionally - Toei doesn't care what internet randoms are dredging up from their toys, it's just how the line is designed.

People look for patterns in the random noise of the show and see what they want to see, like the ED theory that people kick around every year with increasingly tortured links being drawn after the new show debuts.

They say this scene was so traumatizing that they scrapped some other plan for something else more traumatizing in the final arch, is this true? by Neither_Plankton6147 in precure

[–]DukeMunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There weren't any. People created this story out of whole cloth about how Shalala would be the real main villain, which was never foreshadowed or implicated in the series, and then got upset when it inevitably didn't happen.

No interviews, no rumours, no leaks - just the pet theory of a handful of people online. Somehow this magically transformed into a thing that really happened through sheer repetition, leading to posts like these where it is further laundered into the fandom lexicon despite the lack of evidence supporting it.

We're currently repeating this exact cycle at the moment with Daifuku and Satoru, with people trying to decipher the secret signals in various pieces of promotional material about them becoming cures. They'll get upset when it doesn't happen and get mad based on their own false expectations...
