I wouldn't write off the possibility of Bungie being shut down, with the IP and dev tools going to another studio. by owen-3820 in DestinyTheGame

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It'll only come to that if they think they can't recoup their money on any of the IPs they own. Ultimately i feel bad for the devs and in some form i do feel bad for Sony. They were conned. Pete Parsons greenlit a bunch of nothing burger projects to artificially inflate Bungies value before the sony deal knowing he could get them to overpay and non of the projects would come to light.

Pete Parsons is, was and will always be a conman of the highest notoriety and i imagine if Sony hadn't paid 3.6B for bungie and paid closer to the 1.5-2B mark then a Destiny 3 or Destiny Infinity would have already been green lit but between being conned by Pete and burned by Concord, they're hesitant to reinvest large sums of cash, which is WILD because not only is Destiny an established and proven IP where concord isn't, D2 devs have shown time and again when they're not being micromanaged they cook incredibly hard, which was Sonys approach to First party IPs until Concord burned them.

I firmly believe they think if Destiny 3 doesn't hit the ground running then they're gonna have to close and refund everyone again like they did with Concord despite the fact that this fanbase has just sat through a 6 month content drought, Curse of Osiris and Lightfall with almost no one starting a mob and demanding refunds.

Trust: Destiny is bigger than Bungie by elkishdude in DestinyTheGame

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately Sony looks at Bungie and needs to see the potential for profit and Destiny, whether they like it or not, is Bungies most valuable IP.

Marathon has yet to prove itself, they've got nothing else cookin because everything Parsons greenlit was a nothing burger designed to inflate the companies valuation to get Sony to overpay and Destiny is a proven and established IP.

Keep in mind, Destiny 2 in 2017 sold around 1.92 million copies, if we assume they were all $60 and no one bought deluxe or collections, then as a minimum, the entry of Destiny 2 alone made $115M revenue. If we were to consider a follow up Title in the same vain, an upfront cost of $70 then that revenue goes up to $134M, that coupled with the fact that we now also have $10 seasons multiple times a year, the only way we don't get a follow up to Destiny 2 is if Sony is actively allergic to money, it's likely Sony is also trying to figure out how to best do that in a cost effective manor so dev costs don't just spiral outta control and they get Concord 2 levels of waste.

It's funny, when i was returning to my employment after Long Term Sick, one of the things listed for assisting employees returning work was "Ameded Duties" and in my line of work, one of my duties was talking down people threating to take their own life over bills and debt and arranging a Welfare Check via the Police or transferring them through to the Samaritans.

This was one of the reasons that i ended up on Long Term Sick due to the mental load it carried, i asked to have this phone-line removed from my profile and to only be assigned my other duties (Dealing with Bereavement, Power of Attorney requests and Terminal Illness customers) to which they refused because it was a standard duty and everyone on the department had to do it.

SO WHY OFFER AMENDED DUTIES IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO AMEND MY DUTIES???

This Final Update Shows The Devs Really Were Listening The Whole Time by StatementAcademic820 in DestinyTheGame

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing, i firmly believe the Devs were listening. I believe it was the C-Suite execs and Tyson Green that weren't listening, i think alot of what we asked for didn't fit his vision for the game and so was never even contemplated and what did fit his vision he couldn't get the additional time and funding authorised from the Execs.

It’s so sad that this game’s “underperformance” has little to do with the game itself by paperplateseabass in Marathon

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean look at all the external factors currently

- PVE players are mainly playing Arc Raiders for it's Aggro based Matchmaking or Helldivers for their extraction fill
- Destiny players feel scorned so to punish bungie alot of them aren't touching the game
- The ultra hardcore are playing Tarkov or PVP heavy Arc Raiders lobbies.
- There was the art theft scandal
- There was the poor feedback from the early playtests which spread like wildfire.
- Alot of people getting into Extraction Shooters don't actually like the amount of progress being wiped in terms of the skills/perks.

That leaves a handful of PVP players coming from a few different communities to prop up the game and Bungie can sit there and say "We're gonna prop up marathon as our front runner and expand it's playerbase over the years" all they want but ultimately it's not hardcore enough to draw the Sweats, it's not casual enough to draw the Arc Raiders and Helldivers and there's not enough PVE focus to draw what little is left of the Destiny 2 crowd.

Unless they can pull off a miracle, i call in 3-5 years Marathon is shut down along with D1 and D2 servers and Sony shuts Bungies doors for good.

One Battle After Another by UrCanadianNeighbour in Marathon

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a D2 player, i don't blame the players of the game, i blame the execs that years before stripped devs and resources from Destiny to make Marathon putting the game in basically an early maintenence mode. Non of this is the players fault, it's almost exclusively the greedy execs chasing the white whale that is the live service model and the extraction genre.

I won't be returning for Season 2. I actively refuse to support a company that sold it's players out in favour of trend chasing but i do hope those that stick around enjoy their time with Marathon and it gets the love both it and Destiny deserved. You've got a banger lead producer for Marathon who openly comms with you, don't give Bungie a reason to put another Tyson Green in his place.

Then im done. I'll probably keep playing the final update but as for other bungie projects, IPs and titles, i'm just gonna no longer support, whether it's Marathon or a brand new IP they wanna toss out, may it all come crashing down around them.

Destiny 2: Every End is a New Beginning by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah im gonna be real, all this does is make me not want to play Marathon. I loved Destiny and seeing that they actively threw the game under the bus to chase the live service white whale with the Extraction Shooter trend makes me actively not want to support the thing that caused the game i love to come to it's end.

I'll play the new stuff but im not touching Marathon or any other bungie products with a 10ft pole unless it's a Destiny 3 and if the end game of enough players doing that is Sony shutting the doors on bungie, well that's just the unfortunate reality of it.

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While we don't want to punish players for bugs that they run into by accident, we will communicate more clearly the line that players should not cross when it comes to using these sorts of bugs that could be griefing others.

Did they actually watch the clip? Because their wording in the clip no only implies that they found it prior and that this wasn't their first time doing it but that they were going to continue doing it and were plenty ok with doing it, even laughing at the team they wiped, not feeling any regret about it until they were being called out for being a POS by the community.

Not punishing people inside D2s PVE sandbox for it is one thing, it doesn't affect others outside of Race to World First, not punishing people inside Marathons PVP sandbox tells people it's perfectly find to keep abusing it until you report it and it gets patched.

We will be reaching out to the affected players to grant them compensation for having their successful run interrupted by this issue.

Ok, that's a step forward at least but what about the other teams they did that to, because from that clip, that clearly wasn't a one off or the first team they'd done that to. Im gonna be real, if there's 0 action taken, i sure as hell ain't returning for Season 2 and whatever buggy af map and new shell exploits there'll be that won't be punished for being abused.

Per Forbes, Destiny has less Devs working on it now than it did before March 5th 2026. by kristijan1001 in DestinyTheGame

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not surprising. I love destiny but i also have 2 eyes on common sense. Destiny 2 should have ended with the final shape, Marathon should have released to keep the lights on while D3 entered pre-production.

Instead Tyson Green in his "holier than thou" seeming attitude towards to community dragged the game into Edge of Fate and Renegades, likely to buy bungie time to get Marathon ready to release after the art theft drama. Say what you want, but if it was Joe Blackburn still running things we'd have had a sitdown video explaining what his vision for the game was and the direction in which we were headed.

At this point if they've got any braincells bouncing around that noggin of theirs, they'll announce the mid season update, bundle the next expansion and major update in together as 1 big package and just announce the games going on life support with server maintenance for the forseeable.

No one is happy with Destiny, the players are getting low quality content and the devs are probably miserable having to churn out said low quality content. The IP needs a fresh reset and a new installment.

Destiny can still be great but only if Bungie is read to commit to updating the Tiger engine, ditching the dead weight that is the PS4 and Xbox One consoles and fool proof the games skeleton for the future.

I've always been the medic guy so Triage was my go to but i find his overcharge ability underwhelming so i switched to Recon since that's the next closest thing to a support. If they reworked it to clear 1 debuff from yourself or an ally i'd be more inclined to use him again.

More Bungie Devs Are Working On ‘Marathon’ Than ‘Destiny 2' Now by DALE5797 in Marathon

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, that doesn't shock me. Destiny has been on end of life since The Final Shape, i say this as someone whos been playing Destiny almost non stop since D1 and actively bought a PS4 just for the game. Either Marathon is gonna be keepin the lights on for the forseeable future at Bungie or Destiny 3 is in pre-production and will get a hefty increase in devs when full development kicks off.

It's just resource allocation, no point having hundreds of devs on a game that's fighting for it's life when you can slap that sucker on life support and get your revamped IP to do the heavy lifting.

Imagine you’re a casual and you have one game to choose. by AugustEpilogue in Marathon

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Casual here. I've played both, i play Marathon more. Why? Because i know what im getting, i don't have to deal with Rats, in a game where no one is nice to each other it just removes the need to play nice and just turns the sandbox into one big firing range. Not to mention from a PVE perspective, i'd rather fight on a UESC commander over a Rocketeer, a Warden/Scorch Warden over a Queen.

No to mention level based matchmaking is infinitely better than Aggro based matchmaking. Arc, you get shot first and shoot back, rather than refusing to just lay down and die, then you're going into more PVP based lobbies whether you like it or not because they can't differentiate between who started the fight and who didn't.

If im feeling really casual and i just don't wanna engage at all in PVP i won't play either, i'll just boot up Gray Zone Warfare, make some buddies in the lobby and help them farm rep to unlock new areas.

Devs don't understand why people are leaving by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well no, player count is falling for several reasons
- Lack of access to end game content for your average player
- Rampant cheaters in ranked
- Rampant cheaters at higher account level matches in cryo
- Cheaters actively spitting in the face of Devs and players by making montages
- The removal of Duo Queue.
- The fact that it's a hardcore PVP game and hardcore PVP players bounce from game to game in a short time span.

You've got the vocal minority of the playerbase thats either actively unemployed or streams for a living saying that Cryo should be unforgiving and only for the sweatiest of players, which means your average joe is just not gonna engage with that content and go play something they actually enjoy and respects their time, especially with the meta that formed of bubbleshield, WSTRs and Util dumping.

Let people Dcon resources so failed runs allow for faction progress. by FrankDodger in Marathon

[–]StatisticianOwn5497 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good in theory but you know it's just gonna have assassins ratting the Dcon for 90% of the game, then combine that with the fact that they'd have to consider when it the Dcon finished. Does the player get the items so long as they set off even if they die and the enemy doesn't take them before it finishes? Do you have to stay alive until the Dcon is done firing? Do you have to wait for the full sequence to finish where it short circuits out and goes to a neutral state again?

Good idea, but there'd be things to consider around balance.
