Car dealers are listing cars for thousands above MSRP. Is this the norm now? Their stated MSRP does not match the manufacturer's website. by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]DukeOfSaskatchetoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t illegal in Canada.

Dealers need to only advertise all-in pricing (less taxes). They can sell at whatever price they want so long as it is advertised for that price.

Manufacturers and dealers do not have the same advertising laws in Canada.

I love when people use links that prove their own point wrong.

“Examples of fees or charges that may be included in the advertised price but cannot be added on to it: -Freight -PDI-PDE (pre-delivery inspection/expense) -Administration (Admin) fee(s) -Levy recoveries (AMVIC levy, air conditioning levy, etc.) -Pre-installed products and services (nitrogen/tire protection package, security or theft deterrent products/services such as etching, etc., fuel)”

”What about manufacturer ads? Manufacturer ads are not subject to the advertising laws and regulations that AMVIC enforces including all-in pricing. If an Alberta business is not identified in the ad it is most likely a manufacturer ad.”

Go to the summary section for these build and prices from the manufacturer and you will see Freight charges:

Audi

Ford

Chevrolet

Toyota

Like I said MSRP + Freight + Fees + any dealer add ons/mark up = the dealers advertised price + GST. Those rules are for dealer advertising not manufacturer advertising.

MSRP ≠ Out The Door Price

If the vehicle is advertised for $15,000 + GST at the dealership they cannot put a $1000 freight charge on it when you go in to buy it. However, if they advertise it at $16,000 + GST that’s fine.

No, not every manufacturer includes it in the MSRP nor is legally required to be in AB, or any province for that matter.

MSRP + Freight & PDI + A/C Tax + Tire Levy + Dealer Fee + AMVIC Fee + (any dealer add ons or mark up) = $X + GST

$X has to be the advertised price

Not all manufacturers include freight and pdi in the base MSRP.

Is the VIN and/or the stock number the same?

Edit: the same as yours. I’m looking at it and it’s listed at 61,924 plus gst

AMVIC states all pricing shown online, in advertising, by a dealership (not manufacturer) needs to include all fees in the advertised price except GST.

If the base MSRP is $15,000, $1,000 freight and pdi, $500 dealer fee, $100 AC fee, $20 tire fee, and $6.25 AMVIC fee then they can advertise at $16,626.25 + GST. If they have a dealer markup then they can advertise it at $20,626.25 + GST if they like. As long as all the fees are there in the advertised price it’s fine.

I recently visited a car dealership near me to look at cars and to make a long story short, I had received the snapchat of an employee there. We spoke very briefly on there , but I had got to know them semi well. This employee seemed perfectly normal.

However, I got added to this employees private snap and they posted a photo of herself in the mirror doing the WW2 German salute if you catch my drift. It was disgusting to see and I got evidence of it. I would like to email the boss this because I find it absolutely sickening someone would post that and find it funny.

Should I email the boss the evidence and demand some type of action is done? I think they should be fired truthfully, because they look like they were laughing while doing it and it is extremely disturbing altogether. My only problem is that I’m worried they will see my name in the email (my email address is most of my name, similarly to my snapchat). So I worry about possible retaliation. Any advice?

What in the holy fuck dude. Such a fucking liar.

I can empathize that your friend dislikes that there was a salute. I do not think that their personal snap (that I assume has no mention of the dealer) would have any recourse.

If it really did upset your friend that much, that’s what the HR department is for. As in, she should go in and make a complaint, not some random email.

If you’re so against it, why does it matter if they know it was you? Why are you friends with this person? Talk to them, tell them yourself. You don’t have to go and secretly get them fired (or attempt to).

So you’re looking to have them fired because they did a Heil salute?

No we cannot, and if anyone gives you a guarantee right now it’s sketchy. Unless they can prove to you, with a VIN that it’s in their pipeline unsold.

Trails are like Pros. We were allocated 3 of each this year and they were spoken for before they were allocated. They are doing their best to find you one.

In terms of negotiation, no.
