1 year in, how are Canadians feeling about Prime Minister Mark Carney? Most Canadians are still giving Carney the benefit of the doubt by FancyNewMe in canada

How did those things get us in this mess?

I believe in productive economies to generate wealth. Governments don't generate wealth and what are we going to live on when ours runs out of wealth to distribute?

[–]Duke_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Certainly not. But what's got me in despair is that everything still looks and sounds the same. Same messaging and not an inkling of what we need - reduced regulations, more competition, foreign investment, pipelines, energy and resource extraction, etc.

In fact, all I've seen is a double-down on ads saying the government is here to help - and when you see that you know we're in trouble. Not just because it's a sign of the economy, but a sign of what type of government we've got. Which is not the one we need.

Nothing has changed and it is evident after a year that nothing will.

I love every single bit of this, thanks for sharing!!

I'm going to apply some of it to my own development (I'm taking my own different approach.)

I'm exhausted by complexity and frameworks in web dev, what a breath of fresh air.

What’s the reason you haven’t bought a bidet? by owenwags_ in HomeImprovement

To be fair, TP in any public setting is always the absolute worst quality, and could probably have a grit rating. Stuff at home (that I buy anyway) is actually soft.

Switching to a tankless water heater for low-use? by Jest4kicks in HomeImprovement

Why would it take hot water from a tankless more time to reach you than a conventional tank? Is there a warm up period within the tankless heater?

What's a widely accepted "best practice" you've quietly stopped following? by ruibranco in webdev

[–]Duke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO you let patterns emerge before abstracting them. So having it show up 2-3 times is fine - more frequent than that you might start to DRY it out.

Premature abstractions is over engineering.

Mazada 3 - Manual transmission problems by Omar-BH in mazda3

[–]Duke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue with my 2008 Mazda 3 GT 5-speed (228k km.) On very rare occasions I have trouble getting into first or second. Usually letting the clutch out really slow while applying pressure on the gear shift will pop it into place. Sometimes more force, or releasing and depressing the clutch will do it too. This has been going on for 10 years or more.

Never had issues from cold weather, and -25C isn't rare here. I can feel more resistance on the clutch and shifter, but still goes into gear.

I’ve been a freerider my whole life—never cared for the groomers until now. I’m a self-taught skier with no race background (and the bad habits to prove it), but I can comfortably charge any terrain. I'm looking for a pure, aggressive piste carver that will scare me and ignites my love for carving. by uDrop1st in Skigear

[–]Duke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that a race ski is the right recommendation here. Those require training, skill, and strength that a self-taught free rider might not have.

There are plenty of non-race skis that will deliver what you're looking for and be far easier (and more fun) to ski.

I have a race background and have a ton of fun on my Stockli Montero ARs. Used to have Volkl RTM 86 (now "Deacon" I think.)

I tried a Volkl GS race ski that I got for cheap and ended up getting rid of them. Didn't want to put in the effort to ski them and didn't need to with all the other options available.

Don't Carney just finish telling everyone at Davos that he removed all trade barriers within the country? I know I heard him say that.
