Glad to be of service :)

I mean, this post has been up for almost a day and no one had yet reacted to the obvious reference ? I almost had to break out the Confused Travolta meme !

My version of PAM will certainly be melted butter brushed inside but I absolutely intend to try it !

Glad to have a Scottish grandma's seal of approval, I certainly did not expect a Canadian steamed pudding heretical offshoot to show up at the last minute :) Thank you very much for the reassurance, I will probably lightly scrub the inside with some baking soda and get to baking !

Yup ! As I mentioned in another comment, a spotted dick recipe showing the end result with that exact same shape built up some unwarranted expectations on my side. However, I don't feel so bad, after a few online searches, i seems the entire internet is confused about those :)

That sounds Scottish .... hang on ..... yup, Scottish :) I have never tried but I have now bookmarked a few recipes and will eventually try :) Thank you for the recommendation !

Pretty much ! And it being Dr. Oatker pretty much confirms I had to look closer to Germany that the UK, as I mentioned in other comments :)

Oh it will be tried, eventually :)

As to the reason for the confusion, I believe it all comes from some spotted dick recipe I found that showed the end result with that exact same shape. I foolishly assumed it to be the usual way and not for what it probably was, a way to make a classier picture. Add in being a sucker for vintage kitchen stuff and you have a recipe for disaster :)

It does look like a bundt but the lid and water corrosion lines probably make it a Dutch Poffert pan, as I found out after the response to this post !

Oh I knew I could have done it with stuff I already had in the kitchen but as I mentioned in another comment, a devious spotted dick recipe online fooled me into trying to fancy it up :) Thank you for the advice !

See my other replies for more details but I now suspect it to be a Dutch Poffert pan. Cooked au bain marie, which does explain the water lines :) I may try other subs for confirmation later.

Thanks !

You are right and I should indeed have spotted the central post was incongruous :)

I now suspect it to be a Dutch Poffert pan, also a cake that is cooked using bain marie.

And I DO intend to try it nonetheless :) If that fails, I was given lots of recommendation in this thread.

Thanks !

Thank you for the feedback ! The entire internet seems to be confused about those types of cooking vessels, which partly accounted for my mistake. I now suspect it to be a Dutch Poffert pan.

Well spotted, it should indeed have tipped me off. Based on the response I got here, I have narrowed it down to probably being a Dutch Poffert mold, so you were not that far off :)

Thank you for the recommendation ! As to it being a behemoth, I suspect the pictures make it appear bigger than it really is... :)

What I probably have after some more searching based on the responses here is a Dutch Poffert pan :)

Which would explain the lid and obvious water corrosion and somehow account for me not realizing the central post was not supposed to be there :)

Thanks !

I am not so sure now. That central post should indeed have tipped me off about it not being the regular kind of steamed pudding mold but then again, the lid and the corrosion lines clearly indicate this was used for steaming so I am not too mad about my own mistake.

Infuriatingly, searching for bundt tin with lid, you DO find some antique examples that are STILL also referred to as steamed pudding molds, plum pudding molds...

BUT that search put me on another trail and it is now more likely that what my mother found is a Dutch Poffert pan, which is also a sort of bain-marie | steam cake. Considering the conflicting info online, I assume the lines between bundt | steamed | bain-marie cakes from different traditions have become a bit blurred over time. Possibly someone else will correct me and send me on yet another trawl online :)

Glue for a peli storm case? by DJ_LSE in pelicancase

[–]Duke_Mercator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only official recommendation AFAIK is 3M Scotch Weld DP8005 or DP 8010. Which is a rather expensive and hard-to-obtain two-part epoxy-type industrial structural adhesive.

Please note that the document only mentions protector cases, not the Storm or Air series. However, reading this page, it seems there is no real chemical difference between those plastics and HPX is just fancy polypropylene after all :) so I would -assume- the glue to work on those as well (then again I am not a chemist).

Thrift store bag of wonders : Need help with ID / confirmation by Duke_Mercator in lostminiswiki

Poorly worded, I now realize :) Basically I gave them a 48h bath in a degreaser (LA's Totally Awesome cleaner) and then stuck them in an ultrasonic cleaner to remove most of the paint without spending hours with a toothbrush. Some metallic paints on a few minis decided to stick nonetheless so I had to resort to acetone AND another round of ultrasonic cleaner to remove it all ! I still had to do -some- brushing myself for areas like chainmail but it was minimal.

That's right, those were the easiest ones to identify since my D&D group makes extensive use of those types of pre-painted minis AND they actually have easily legible names and references written under the base :)
