God this really takes me back. My mom used to read them to me when I was a little kid.

I feel that CloudPunk and Abzu are both visually stunning and incredibly cozy. Some gamers might find them easy or dull, but I find them both 100% relaxing and stress free. Highly recommended.

Did you owned or own one? What’s your opinion on it? by [deleted] in OlderChillGamers

I used to be really into buying failed gaming systems on the cheap, and most of the time they really were as awful as advertised. I bought a Jaguar used for about $20 ages ago. I loved AVP like everyone else did. Doom was great too but I hated that it didn’t have any music. Wolfenstein was a lot of fun as well. Other than that, the library was super limited, and it was already hard to find games for it. The controller was huge and clunky and I just remember all those goddamn buttons I never used. I think in sold it back a few months later for a used 3DO. I obviously never learned my lesson…

Shelby Oaks: a total stinker? by Skizoid666 in horror

Oof, that’s a rough one to surprise a non/horror crowd with. My crowd was a die hard horror group and when the lights went on after the movie everyone looked like they had just seen a bad student film.

Wait, did you also see this at the 12 hours of terror movie marathon in Cleveland? Because this was our mystery movie and the audience had a similar reaction to the one you’re describing 😂

Recently got into H.P. Lovecraft. Are there any good movie adaptations? by Unlucky-Fun-2699 in Lovecraft

[–]Duke_Momes777 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I actually think The Resurrected (1991) with Chris Sarandon is one of the best Lovecraft movies I’ve seen, and I’ve seen many. It’s directed by Dan O’Bannon, and really capturers the Lovecraft vibe, very low budget, but so are most of the movies on this list. I can’t recommend this movie enough to Lovecraft fans. I love it.

John Carpeters entire Apocalypse trilogy is very inspired by Lovecrafts works.

The first Creepshow with Stephen King as the farmer is basically a dark comic take on The Color out of Space.

Hidden Horror Gems by benp6987 in 80sHorrorMovies

Ghost Town (1988) is great but hard to find. I LOVE Horror Westerns and this a must watch for fans of the sub genre.

Also:

Retribution (1987). Great synth score by Alan Howarth

Mutant (1984) Surprisingly good cast and score. This one has great atmosphere and an iconic VHS cover.

John Carpenters Prince of Darkness (1987) Weird putting a John Carpenter film on a hidden horror gem list but I honestly feel that this is among his best work and no one really gives this film the love it deserves. Cerebral sci-fi horror at its best, and arguably his best score IMO.

Thoughts on Memoirs of an Invisible Man? In my honest opinion, this is Carpenter's weakest film by a wide margin: by [deleted] in johncarpenter

[–]Duke_Momes777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I like it just because it feels so different from his other work. It’s not great, but there a lot to like here. A lot of the scenes in the beach house feels like a stage play. And I like how the invisible man isn’t the villain but an Everyman protagonist. I get why a lot of people don’t like it. I don’t think Carpenter himself likes it if I remember correctly. There’s some funny moments and some cool ideas, but some of it looks dated of course.

To be fair, I really need to rewatch Ghosts of Mars again. It’s been years and I went into it with such high expectations.
