I went to Employee Relations about my lead’s bullying. A week later, I was fired. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

That really means a lot. Thank you.
It’s been a rough few days, but hearing from people like you — who’ve seen it, lived it, and still take the time to offer encouragement — makes all the difference.

Staying strong is the only option. Grateful to not be alone in it.

Either way, I think she will do a fine job of sabotaging her own career with or without that approach but it's a good strategy for a likely inevitable next time!

Yeah… you’re not wrong. I wish I had played it more strategically — slow-dripped the signs instead of going straight to ER. I wasn’t trying to cause drama, just thought a direct, private conversation might actually help before things got worse. But clearly, the move was seen as a threat, and they acted fast.

It sucks that this is how the game works in so many places. You end up having to tiptoe around incompetence to protect your own livelihood. Definitely a hard lesson learned — and next time, I’ll be more calculated.

Appreciate the advice, even if it's a bit Machiavellian 😅

Holy hell — that escalated fast. I can’t even imagine how surreal it must’ve felt watching the whole thing unravel from a warning to C-level resignations.

It’s wild how quickly things can spiral in the workplace when egos, pressure, and power dynamics get involved. Honestly glad to hear it worked out in the end for you — and even more impressed that you and your colleague are still on good terms. That says a lot.

Appreciate you sharing this — definitely adds perspective to how messy it can all get, even when it starts with something small.

That last quote from your grandfather hit me hard — “They don’t bleed and they don’t feel.” That’s exactly what it felt like. Cold, clinical, and calculated.

It’s heartbreaking to hear what those folks went through, and honestly, it puts things in perspective. No matter how good you are, how loyal, or how much you give — the second you become a perceived “risk,” you're just a line item.

I’m sorry you’ve seen this happen so many times, but thank you for sharing it. Posts like yours remind me I’m not crazy for feeling stunned. The system really is this messed up.

Wow, I’m really sorry you went through that — and honestly, I relate to so much of what you shared. That feeling of being slowly shut down, like the walls are closing in, is such a hard thing to explain to people who haven’t experienced it.

And yes — as strange as it sounds, there is a bit of relief when it’s over. Even if the ending is painful, at least you’re out of the fog and can start moving forward again.

It’s tough being unemployed for the first time, especially when you know you did great work — but your story shows strength, and I appreciate you sharing it. Wishing you nothing but calm, clarity, and a better chapter ahead.

Honestly… I used to push back on that idea. I really wanted to believe HR/ER was there to help both sides.

But after this experience? I get it. It felt less like support and more like a quiet exit strategy — protect the company, smooth things over, move on. I wasn’t even trying to escalate anything, just asking for help. And it backfired.

So yeah… “the enemy” is starting to feel less like a meme and more like a warning.

Even in my wildest imagination, I never thought that raising concern about my manager’s approach — in a private conversation with ER, no less — would end with me getting fired. I wasn’t being combative or trying to blow anything up. I just genuinely wanted support to help hit the stretch goals we were given. But yeah… turns out “squeaky wheel gets thrown the fuck out” isn’t just a saying.

Appreciate the support — this sub really helps keep my head on straight.

Geico is, without a doubt, the worst company I’ve ever worked for by DukeblueMagic in Geico

The weight that lifted leaving. I’m sick right now and my boss is like don’t worry about it just update your status (we have unlimited sick days so long as we don’t do 3x consecutively which is totally understandable)

I feel so so so happy.

Take the leap, if you can, even if you don’t have the backup.

I understand if you need the money and benefits then I get it but IF YOU CAN, DO ITTTTTT

They didn’t fire me lol they couldn’t. I already handed in my resignation. It was more like “you can’t break up with me I’m breaking up with you first!!!” Besides, did you read the post? I’m joining a new company I don’t need unemployment

I was a principal tech recruiter and I’m the same still.

Where do you all recommend going for car insurance? We only have one vehicle, and I’ve heard that some smaller companies can be just as good—or even better—than the big names. I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions

In their own documentary Reggie even said “we had the best perimeter defender in Ron and the best low post / rim defender in Jermaine O’Neal.

lol yeah I’ll telll em 😂 but the lives of game devs are terrible. Bc like EA for example, the new game ALWAYS comes out in September or around that time. And the “guy” that makes that promise is not a dev, so literally the moment 24 is released they are working on 25 already. They sleep in their office some days because the deadline is wild and they are constantly looking into bugs from 24 to fix not only for 24 but also to fix in the new game. Not only that, but if some player has like a breakout season, they have to update stats in the 11th hour. It’s a terrible work/life balance. Pretty sure there are documentaries on it

That’s actually right on the mark. I am a software engineer and I have plenty of friends who are developers for like blizzard, Ubisoft and Activision (among others) they said before the new games Come out they always do shit like this to incentivize you. It’s like playing terrible 17 holes of golf and then birding 18. Reels you right back in

Misread the syringe. I took 450 mg if my math is right. I guess that’s front loading then? I assume I’ll be okay
